Luis Enrique praises Chevalier after stellar PSG debut in Super Cup win
The 23-year-old goalkeeper earned widespread acclaim after a series of crucial saves, including a penalty stop.
Manager Luis Enrique lauded Chevalier's composure under pressure following Gianluigi Donnarumma's abrupt exit.
'We relied on Lucas ... he just arrived, but it was time for him to show off. We're very happy because he made it,' Enrique said.
Chevalier's arrival on Sunday came amid controversy as Donnarumma was dropped from the squad.
The young keeper's penalty save against Micky van de Ven sealed PSG's 4-3 shootout victory.
'This is PSG, you have to know how to handle the pressure, Lucas is a top-class goalkeeper, he's capable of it,' Enrique added.
Teammate Ousmane Dembele described Chevalier's debut as a perfect script.
'It's a bit of a script: he comes in and saves a penalty. It's a good start for him, we're happy,' Dembele said.
Enrique acknowledged the challenging circumstances surrounding Donnarumma's departure.
'Everyone was talking about the situation; his (Lucas's position) wasn't easy, but he showed great character,' the manager noted.
PSG now turn their focus to their Ligue 1 opener against Nantes this Sunday. - Reuters

Spurs' Tel says he won't let racial abuse bring him down
LONDON: Tottenham Hotspur forward Mathys Tel said he would not allow the racial abuse directed at him online following his side's UEFA Super Cup defeat by Paris St-Germain bring him down. Spurs said they were "disgusted" by the abuse aimed at the 20-year-old Frenchman, who missed a spot-kick during their penalty shootout defeat by PSG in Italy last Wednesday. "I was also disappointed about Wednesday night but racism has no place in our society," Tel posted on social media on Tuesday. "I know where I come from, where I started and none of this will bring me down. With work and humility, respect reigns." Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo was also subjected to racist abuse during his side's 4-2 defeat by Liverpool at Anfield on Friday. Kevin Trapp signs for Paris FC from Eintracht Frankfurt
GERMAN international goalkeeper Kevin Trapp has returned to France for a second spell, signing for newly-promoted Paris FC from Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt. The 35-year-old, capped nine times, has signed a three-year contract with Paris FC, who are backed by the Arnaults, one of the world's wealthiest families. They opened their campaign in disappointing fashion with a 1-0 defeat away at Angers on Sunday. Paris FC is proud to welcome Kevin, the club said in a statement. Trapp previously played for their city rivals Paris Saint-Germain from 2015 to 2018. He was a regular in the side that won the Ligue 1 title in 2016 before gradually falling out of favour. He returned to Eintracht on loan in 2018 before signing permanently. Trapp played in the side that won the Europa League in 2022. He was man of the match in the final against Rangers. He then helped Eintracht finish third in the Bundesliga last term. This was the first time they had made the top three since 1993. He will bring the experience at the top level that for the moment is lacking in 22-year-old Obed Nkambadio. Nkambadio was first choice last season and played in the Angers game. Paris FC's next challenge is away in the febrile atmosphere of the Stade Velodrome at Marseille.
