Golden State Warriors jersey history - No. 9 - Ralph Kaplowitz (1947-48)
The Golden State Warriors have had over 600 players don the more than 60 jersey numbers used by their players over the more than 75 years of existence the team has enjoyed in its rich and storied history.
Founded in 1946 during the Basketball Association of America (BAA -- a precursor league of the NBA) era, the team has called home the cities of Philadelphia, San Francisco, Oakland, and even San Diego.
To commemorate the players who wore those numbers, Warriors Wire is covering the entire history of jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team. For this article, we begin with the first of 15 players who wore the No. 9 jersey for the Warriors.
That player would be Golden State wing alum Ralph Kaplowitz. After ending his college career at NYU, Kaplowitz signed with the New York Knicks in their and the BAA's first season of existence. In early 1947, his contract was sold to the (then) Philadelphia (now, Golden State) Warriors.
His stay with the team would span parts of 2 seasons, the New Yorker moving on to other domestic leagues afterward.
During his time suiting up for the Warriors, Kaplowitz wore only jersey No. 9 and put up 5.1 points per game.

Knicks Suggested to Hire Head Coach ‘Responsible For Building' Warriors
Knicks Suggested to Hire Head Coach 'Responsible For Building' Warriors originally appeared on Athlon Sports. New York Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau was fired after five seasons with the organization, fresh off leading the club to its first Eastern Conference Finals in 25 seasons. Advertisement This leaves pressure on the front office to make a home run of a hire. Instead of giving Thibodeau another season with this squad, to see if he could take them further, they decided they need someone they are confident can take them to the promised land. Jason Kidd, Ime Udoka and Chris Finch -- all three active coaches -- have been linked to the vacancy early in the process. They've all got conference finals experience, with Udoka and Kidd both coaching in the NBA Finals in the past few years. Stephen A. Smith, ESPN pundit and known Knicks superfan, had a clear head coaching suggestion for New York. He wants the team to consider hiring Mark Jackson, a former head coach of the Golden State Warriors. © Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports "I'm gonna always mention the name Mark man was responsible for building Golden State before Steve Kerr was brought in and took over and piggybacked off of that," Smith explained. The logic is interesting here. Did Jackson do a solid job with the Warriors before the dynasty? Absolutely. He won 23 games in year one before winning 51 games in year three. Advertisement In the final two years of his three-year stint, he coached in the playoffs, with a total record of 9-10 in postseason play. However, there was a reason Steve Kerr was brought in to architect the dynasty years. He found success in the playoffs. Of course, Jackson was early to the party, and Kerr struck at the right time -- as Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green were entering their prime years. The New York native being linked to the Knicks makes sense. He's got limited coaching experience, though. While he is attached to the Warriors' dynasty, New York might opt to aim for a bench boss with more experience -- particularly deep in the playoffs. Advertisement Led by Jalen Brunson, the Knicks' title window is seemingly open. New York needs to strike while they can, taking no chances to bolster their ability to raise a banner. Golden State Warriors Fans Have Request For NBA During Offseason
Golden State Warriors Fans Have Request For NBA During Offseason originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Golden State Warriors, along with 27 other teams, are watching the NBA Finals ensue just before the offseason kicks off. Advertisement Soon, the NBA Draft will roll around, followed quickly by free agency and the Summer League. The Warriors will have an actionable offseason plan ready to build around Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green. Late in the season, it was made clear that Golden State can build around the trio while competing at the highest level. Still, Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. is going to have to make big offseason moves. While the franchise aims to make proper basketball moves -- like bringing in a big man or adding perimeter shooting -- they've also got the opportunity to make identity changes. Jerseys, branding and identity are something fans keep a close eye on. Every team already has a leaked city jersey, which is simply a rumor at this point in time, with nothing having been confirmed. This design mock-up is similar to a past edition of the city uniforms the Warriors used. Still, Golden State fans have a clear favorite and wish for the NBA to deploy once again. Advertisement They want the league to return the Warriors' classic jersey to their lineup. "I'm saying," one fan responded, giving their stamp of approval. Another fan responded with three fire emojis, seconding the motion. Fans across the league often enjoy having a splash of a classic feel in the Rolodex of jerseys each season, complementing the two main jerseys and the city jersey. Some teams, like the Orlando Magic, are implementing their classic look into their everyday wear. If the Warriors were to add a classic jersey, specifically the one the fans were raving about, to their lineup, they would certainly receive a positive reaction. The Golden State Warriors could choose to re-sign Jonathan Kuminga in free agency
The Golden State Warriors could choose to re-sign Jonathan Kuminga in free agency Jonathan Kuminga's long-term future with the Golden State Warriors has been a hot topic of discussion in recent weeks. The explosive forward is heading into restricted free agency. However, his inability to earn a consistent role within Steve Kerr's rotation has led to some debates regarding the Warriors' willingness to pay his market value. However, it would now seem that Kuminga is more likely to remain in the Bay Area than he is to leave. NBC Sports' Monte Poole recently noted that the common consensus around the NBA is that the franchise will look to retain Kuminga heading into the 2025-26 season. "The scuttlebutt around the NBA is that the Warriors will very likely find a way to hang onto JK," Poole said. "It doesn't mean he's going to be a long-term answer. They can just move him later." Kuminga has consistently flashed his upside when given the opportunity. He impressed during the postseason, even when sharing the floor with Jimmy Butler. Still, it's worth noting, that according to ESPN's Bobby Marks, retaining Kuminga could hamstring the Warriors ability to further improve the roster this summer. "It all depends on Kuminga," Marks said on the "Willard and Dibs" show. "He really controls free agency in Golden State, because if they sign him to a contract and bring him back, that's really it. That's all they can do this offseason." Golden State has a tough decision ahead. Losing Kuminga would likely entail a sign-and-trade, but that doesn't mean it would hurt the team's wing depth. However, if Kerr can't find a legitimate role for him, then letting hip develop elsewhere in the league may be the best option. Otherwise, the Warriors may find themselves searching for a trade partner next summer, as they look to maximize their return on Kuminga's undoubted talent.
