Notre Dame social media reacts to 2026 DL Elijah Golden committing to the Irish
On Saturday, Notre Dame football scored another big recruiting win, as they got a verbal commitment from 2026 Florida defensive lineman Elijah Golden.
The Irish now have twenty-seven commits in the cycle, a collection of talent that is considered the No. 3 overall group nationally by the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings. This has been head coach Marcus Freeman's best class since he took over the program, and it could be sign of things to come.
Any time Notre Dame lands a commitment, social media has been a great place to see the excitement in Irish Nation. Check out below the best comments after Golden made his verbal pledge to the Irish.
Golden was meant to be
It almost seemed like fate that a prospect with the last name of Golden was considering Notre Dame, and ultimately picked the Irish. It doesn't always work out this way, but it did in this situation. Golden is a terrific prospect that has tons of potential.
Golden played the hat game

If you didn't see Golden's announcement, he initially picked up an Oklahoma hat, before discarding it and announcing for Notre Dame. It's always frustrating to be on the Sooners end of a commitment, but their loss is clearly the Irish's gain.
Party in South Bend

Auman has done a great job in his first recruiting cycle as Notre Dame's Director of Recruiting, and he deserves plenty of credit for this class. He made the right choices in which prospects to go after, and did very well with closing on those who took official visits. Auman should be celebrating.
The motto
Choose Hard - Live Easy 🤙🏾☘️
After every commit, the former Notre Dame star goes to social media and posts this statement. Tagovailoa-Amosa understands the Irish way, and he's proof that life after football can be done in South Bend. Like Auman, he should be very happy with the results of his efforts in recruiting Golden.
Making history
Notre Dame hosted 12 uncommitted prospects on official visits in June. It's picked up commitments from 11 of them since. Not sure I've seen anything like that in 25 years on the beat.
The closing percentage for June visitors has been elite, pretty much says that if you made a visit to South Bend during the month, most likely you were becoming a member of the Irish recruiting class. Golden was the last of the group to make his decision, and it was worth the wait.
An elite group of defensive lineman for the Irish
Notre Dame has one of the nation's top defensive line classes, adding four-star Elijah Golden to its terrific 2026 class. https://t.co/gvAHD07Q7x
Golden now joins Ebenezer Ewetade, Tiki Hola and Rodney Dunham to make up one of the top defensive line classes nationally. There's talent all over, and these four could all have significant impacts in their Irish careers. They'll be disrupting opposing offenses for the new few years.

What Travis Hunter's preseason debut hints about his main focus for Jaguars
Yahoo Sports NFL analyst Nate Tice, fantasy analyst Matt Harmon and NFL writer Charles Robinson react to the two-way star's usage in Saturday's opener and what it hints towards his potential for this season. Hear the full conversation on 'Football 301' - and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you listen. View more Video Transcript What was one thing you learned from the opening weekend of preseason, our first taste of NFL football for 2025. Yeah, so since I was delayed in multiple airports yesterday, I got a lot of work done, including one thing because I'm a sick freak. I did a little charting of the Jaguars offensive players here where they just, just where they lined up. No routes were charted, no success rates, none of that, but I was just curious about the alignment. And yeah, if you are watching on YouTube, you can see my handwritten, if it gets in framed there: 13 snaps for BTJ, 12 for Travis Hunter, who I don't think played with the first team defense at all. He only played with the first team offense, which I thought was interesting. Hunter was like 50/50 outside slot, but he was 83% of those 12 snaps off the line of scrimmage, whereas BTJ was 84.6% on the line of scrimmage, which I think makes sense for how these two guys are gonna be used. I thought that was interesting to just take a note of how these, very early clues about how these two receivers, Brian Thomas Junior and Travis Hunter are going to be deployed. I think it makes sense for what they're doing with Hunter, right? He got a screen target, that was one of the plays that was called back. ETN was on the field a lot, so from a running back standpoint, that, I think, is notable. He had a 10-yard screen reception too. So just some early clues on how I think this offense is going to feel pretty dynamic in terms of the player usage, how they have two guys who can line up inside and out, two guys that can take snaps on the line of scrimmage, but, yeah, again, especially. Travis Hunter mostly being used off the line and in the slot a lot, I think is going to allow him to get a lot of free releases. They had him running a lot of quick in breakers. So just again, these early clues on the Jaguars' wide receiver usage, and in addition to Travis, ETN's like receiving usage, especially on those screens. We know how productive. The Buccaneers offense was last year throwing screens to multiple players. But especially to Bucky Irving out of the backfield. That was at least, uh, it looks like there's going to be some carryover there against, uh, that offense this year. This is what they've been practicing like. He's a receiver first, and he's a spot DB, you know, a role-playing DB that they use in high-leverage situations. Close

Free agent former Mavericks big man working out for East contender
Free agent former Mavericks big man working out for East contender originally appeared on The Sporting News A free agent former Dallas Mavericks power forward/center is auditioning for an Eastern Conference hopeful. It makes sense that Dallas itself isn't interested in bringing the big man back, as the Mavericks currently boast a glut (perhaps a surplus) of frontcourt talent already. Sources inform longtime NBA insider Chris Haynes that Kai Jones is putting in a workout for the Miami Heat on Monday. This story will be updated...

Florida QB DJ Lagway is throwing 70 passes a day while rehabbing a strained calf
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida quarterback DJ Lagway is throwing 70 passes a day while working his way back from a strained left calf. Coach Billy Napier said Monday that Lagway is 'on schedule' with his rehab but will remain 'modifed for a while' in practice. The sophomore who went 6-1 in seven starts last season sat out Saturday's scrimmage and has yet to take part in 11-on-11 team drills. The 15th-ranked Gators open the season Aug. 30 against Long Island University. 'His workload is high,' Napier said. 'It's just not with a pass rush, you know? We're controlling the environment, trying to take care of him from a soft-tissue standpoint.' Lagway strained a calf muscle while running with teammates a week before the Gators opened training camp. It was the latest injury for the Heisman Trophy hopeful who missed spring practice with a shoulder injury after undergoing sports hernia surgery. Florida's star player also was limited last fall with shoulder soreness and slowed in November because of a strained left hamstring. 'Any football player would be better off taking the reps,' Napier said. 'The key is to be creative in terms of how we format practice, format the walkthrough. We've got to maximize all the mental reps, the process reps, the communication reps. 'It's not ideal. That's the way I've tried put it in the past, and I still kind of stand by that. In a perfect world, he'd be 100% and taking every single rep. But he's not able to do that.' The silver lining: Lagway's absence has allowed the Gators to get a better look at three QBs vying for the backup job. And freshman Tramell Jones Jr. has been so impressive that he's now pushing returner Aidan Warner and college journeyman Harrison Bailey for the spot behind Lagway. Napier called Jones' performance 'buzz worthy.' 'He's still got to operate much quicker, got to process quicker, communicate better under the gun and the play clock, his ability to manage the problems as they arise. All those things need to improve,' Napier said. 'But he throws a really good ball. He's very accurate. He's got arm talent, and I think he's a smart kid.' Lagway completed 60% of his passes for 1,915 yards, with 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 2024. He took over the starting role after Graham Mertz tore a knee ligament at Tennessee in October.
