The AIFF will present 23 regional premieres, including 16 films making their world premiere.
The Amman International Film Festival – Awal Film (AIFF) has announced its official programme for its sixth edition, which will run from July 2 to 10, 2025, under the theme A World Unscripted. This year's selection brings together more than 60 films from 23 countries, highlighting daring, original storytelling and staying true to the festival's mission of celebrating first-time achievements.
Screenings will take place across Taj Cinemas, The Royal Film Commission – Jordan, Rainbow Theatre in Amman, and other venues in Jordan's governorates. Among the entries are 23 regional premieres and 16 world premieres, including powerful works from Gaza that document the resilience and struggles of its people.
To improve accessibility, the festival has incorporated sign language interpretation for selected films and will provide Arabic and English subtitles for most screenings. Additionally, three free public screenings outside the official competition will be held at Abdali Boulevard.
Areeb Zuaiter, AIFF's Head of Programming, said: 'We turn to the seventh art to resist the narratives imposed upon us. In this upcoming edition, filmmakers pour their hearts into stories that defy distortion – stories that pulse with truth, complexity, creativity and courage. We are eager to bring these stories, both from our region and beyond, to the big screen and to make them accessible to the widest possible audience.'
The festival features four competitive sections—Arab Feature-Length Narrative Films, Arab Feature Documentary Films, Arab Short Films, and Non-Arab Films—where professional juries will grant the Black Iris and Special Mention awards. Notable Arab narrative films include Seeking Haven for Mr. Rambo (Egypt), To A Land Unknown (Palestine), and Thank You for Banking With Us! (Palestine). In the documentary category, highlights range from Abo Zaabal 89 (Egypt) to Tell Them About Us (Jordan). The short film lineup showcases a rich diversity of first-time directors from across the region.
The non-Arab competition will present debuts such as Happyend (Japan), Armand (Norway) and All We Imagine as Light (India).
Beyond competition, the festival will screen special selections including Under My Mother's Roof (Lebanon), UNRWA, 75 Years of a Provisory History (Switzerland), and several poignant works made in Gaza such as The Clown From Gaza and Very Small Dreams.
Ireland has been named Country of Honour this year, with a dedicated programme of Irish cinema to be announced soon. The AIFF continues to collaborate with distributors to add further titles and expand its vibrant celebration of new cinematic voices.

‘Tetes brulees' to make MENA premiere at Amman International Film Festival

MAD World oversees the film's international sales, while MAD Distribution manages its distribution across the MENA region. After its world premiere at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival, where it received two Special Mentions in the Generation 14plus section, Têtes brûlées is heading to Jordan for its MENA premiere at the sixth edition of the Amman International Film Festival. The film will screen on July 6 at 10:00 p.m. at Taj Cinema and again on July 9 at 8:00 p.m. at the Royal Film Commission. A Belgian production infused with Tunisian influences, Têtes brûlées is a coming-of-age drama centred on 12-year-old Eya, who struggles to cope with the sudden loss of her older brother Younès. Bound by an unbreakable connection, Eya finds herself navigating a structured and emotional grieving process, leaning on her creativity, resilience, and Younès' close friends to make sense of her loss and move forward. The film has also garnered critical acclaim, with Aurore Engelen of Cineuropa describing it as 'a film of few words but many gestures—hands reaching out, arms embracing and consoling.' She commended Zellama's sensitive direction, noting her ability to 'capture both the strength and fragility of these moments.' Written and directed by Belgian-Tunisian-Danish filmmaker Maja Ajmia Zellama, Têtes brûlées is produced by Komoko, with co-productions by Quetzalcoatl and 1080 Films. Zellama, a graduate of the LUCA School of Arts, is also the co-founder and president of ASBL Bledarte, a Brussels-based organisation dedicated to empowering immigrant youth through art and culture. The film's production team includes producers Marc Goyens and Nabil Ben Yadir, cinematographer Grimm Vandekerckhove, editor Dieter Diependaele, production designer Eve Martin, casting director Marie McCourt, and sound designer David Vranken. The film features Safa Gharbaoui, Mehdi Bouziane, Mounir Amamra (DIVINES), Adnane El Haruati, Saber Tabi, Nicolas Makola, Mehdi Zellama and Monia Taieb.

Chad Arab Poetry Forum: A canvas of culture

The Republic of Chad hosted the fourth edition of the Arab Poetry Forum on Wednesday, in the capital, N'Djamena. The two-day event was organised by the Cultural Affairs Department at the Sharjah Department of Culture, in cooperation with the Literary Club of Chad, and featured the participation of forty poets from across the country. Promoting Arab culture The Arab Poetry Forums in Africa are in implementation of the directives of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, calling for the support of the Arabic language and the strengthening of the presence of Arabic poetry in Africa. These forums serve as a platform for raising awareness, a bridge for communication, and a platform for showcasing poetic talent across the continent, within a comprehensive vision that promotes Arab culture and enhances its role in human development. The opening ceremony of the forum was attended by His Excellency Rashid bin Saeed Al Shamsi, UAE Ambassador to Chad; His Excellency Minister Saleh Djouma Joudeh, Deputy Secretary-General of the Chadian Government; His Excellency the Minister in Charge of Bilingualism in Chad; and the Vice President of King Faisal University. Representatives of Arab embassies, university and institute professors, students, and fans of Arabic poetry. The forum was introduced by Dr Ahmed Abu Al Fath Othman, the Cultural Coordinator in Chad, who emphasised that the fourth edition was keen to include all regions of Chad, providing a national platform for poetry lovers and a bridge connecting the south and the north, between professionals and talents. 40 Chadian poets Abu Al Fath noted that this year's forum is seeing the participation of forty poets from across the country, in a diverse poetic scene that expresses the richness of the Chadian cultural experience and the diversity of its tributaries. The forum's general coordinator extended his deepest gratitude and appreciation to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, for his tremendous support for creative artists and poets in Africa and the Arab world, and for his patronage of this forum and his commitment to preserving the Arabic language. In closing, the organisers thanked all those who contributed to the success of this event, including cultural and academic partners and supporting institutions, most notably the Sharjah Department of Culture, the Chadian Literary Club, King Faisal University, and all the poets and poetry lovers in attendance. The foundation of development At the beginning of his speech, His Excellency Rashid Al Shamsi conveyed the greetings of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah to the forum's participants, stating that he is honoured to convey the greetings of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and his high appreciation for hosting of such major cultural events, which reflect a shared interest in countries around the world, especially in African countries. Al Shamsi stressed the value of these renewed cultural ties, spearheaded by the Emirate of Sharjah in organising these major events, out of its belief that culture is the foundation of development and a factor in strengthening the bonds of friendship. Al Shamsi added that the United Arab Emirates believes that culture is the centre of human life, and therefore has established many major cultural festivals. Al Shamsi also affirmed absolute readiness to support these cultural initiatives that inspire hope and open broader horizons. He saluted the Chadian poets who have engaged with this cultural event from all cities and regions of Chad, confirming his confidence that it will be a stimulating event for creativity and a service to the Arabic language in this friendly country. His Excellency Saleh Judeh said he is pleased to participate in this distinguished literary forum, which celebrates the creative word and brings together lovers of poetry and language in a panorama of cultural beauty and national diversity. Judeh pointed out that the Republic of Chad is working to support the presence of the Arabic language in institutions and the public sphere, alongside other national languages. He saluted the participating poets and organisers, calling for the continuation of such initiatives that elevate the conscience and strengthen the status of the Arabic language in people's hearts. Readings The poets participating in the forum presented vibrant poems that reflected, in their artistic structure and themes, the depth of the human experience, reflecting both human reality and aspirations. In their texts, the language of the everyday blended with the language of dreams, elevating poetry from its local context to a broad human horizon.
