Law, who revealed in 2021 that he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and vascular dementia, is immortalised in a statue at Old Trafford alongside George Best and Sir Bobby Charlton.
A Ballon d'Or winner in 1964, he won the European Cup, two English titles and the FA Cup in his years at Old Trafford.
Born in Aberdeen, Law began his career with Huddersfield Town, had two spells at Manchester City and also played in Italy for Torino.
Probate records have revealed he had amassed an estate worth £2,035,475 which will be handed down to his family.
A will penned in 2018 ordered his wealth should be given to his wife Diana but she predeceased him. His estate will be handled by his son Andrew and daughter Diana.
An earlier statement from the Law family said: "It is with a heavy heart that we tell you our father Denis Law has sadly passed away.
"He fought a tough battle but finally he is now at peace.
"We would like to thank everyone who contributed to his wellbeing and care, past and much more recently.
"We know how much people supported and loved him and that love was always appreciated and made the difference. Thank you."
Sir Alex Ferguson led tributes to his fellow Scot.
He said: "There is a saying in Scotland, 'who do you think you are? Denis Law?'.
"He was the best Scottish player of all time. He was a fantastic player. He epitomises Scotland, fighting away, having a fight in an empty house. He was an incredible human being."
Manchester Utd issued a statement following his passing: "Everyone at Manchester United is mourning the loss of Denis Law, the King of the Stretford End, who has passed away, aged 84.
"With 237 goals in 404 appearances, he will always be celebrated as one of the club's greatest and most beloved players.
"The ultimate goal-scorer, his flair, spirit and love for the game made him the hero of a generation. Our deepest condolences go out to Denis's family and many friends. His memory will live on forever more."
Former captain Bryan Robson said: "Denis was more than just a fantastic footballer, he was a fantastic man. So generous with his time and everything delivered with that great sense of humour of his.
"He would always be in my greatest ever Manchester United XI. He was a player so many of his peers idolised and with good reason, that iconic image of him with his sleeves pulled down and the one arm salute after scoring."
Two giant murals honouring Law have been painted on a high-rise block in Aberdeen.
The murals in the Printfield area of the city show him playing for Scotland and Manchester Utd.
He is Manchester Utd's third-highest goal scorer of all time behind Wayne Rooney and Charlton with 237 in 404 games, and Scotland's joint top scorer with 30 goals from his 55 caps.

Nottingham Forest agree deals for Man City midfielder and Ipswich striker
Nottingham Forest are poised to make a significant statement in the transfer market, reportedly agreeing deals worth up to £67million for Manchester City 's James McAtee and Ipswich Town's Omari Hutchinson. The potential double swoop highlights Forest's ambition as the new Premier League season approaches. The club has reportedly agreed a deal worth up to £30million for England Under-21 captain James McAtee from Manchester City. The arrangement includes provisions for a sell-on fee and a buy-back option for City on the 22-year-old midfielder. Despite his pedigree, McAtee has found first-team opportunities limited under Pep Guardiola, making 15 Premier League appearances last season with only three starts. His senior experience largely stems from two successful loan spells with Sheffield United, and his decision to prioritise the European Under-21 Championship over the Club World Cup was vindicated as he led England to victory. Meanwhile, Forest are also understood to have struck an agreement believed to be around £37million for Ipswich forward Omari Hutchinson. This potential move, if finalised, would represent a club-record transfer for Forest. Hutchinson, another member of England's victorious Under-21 squad, played 32 times for the Tractor Boys as they were relegated to the Championship, contributing three goals and two assists. However, neither player is expected to feature in Sunday's Premier League opener against Brentford. With players needing to be registered by 12pm on Friday for weekend action, and no medicals booked for either player as of Thursday night, their immediate involvement appears unlikely. The club's busy transfer window has also seen the arrivals of Switzerland international Dan Ndoye and the Botafogo pair Igor Jesus and Jair Cunha. Furthermore, captain Morgan Gibbs-White has committed his long-term future to the club, signing a new contract amid alleged unsolicited interest from Tottenham.

Jamie Smith leads London Spirit to win over Trent Rockets
London Spirit claimed their second win of The Hundred with a 21-run victory over Trent Rockets. England wicketkeeper Jamie Smith scored a half century for the hosts at Lord's as they reached a total of 162 for five and Joe Root's Rockets, who had won their opening two matches, were unable to keep pace in reply. Smith was eventually caught by his England team-mate Root off the bowling of Sam Cook for 52 but captain Kane Williamson maintained the pace with 45, while Ollie Pope and Ashton Turner also contributed valuable runs. Openers Tom Banton and Root got London Spirit off to a strong start in their reply, putting on 73 for the first wicket, but Marcus Stoinis, who smashed four sixes, was the only other batter to make an impression. There was a painful end to his innings after only three balls, meanwhile, for Tom Alsop, who left the field with blood streaming from his nose after a bouncer from Jamie Overton found a way through. The Rockets ultimately came up well short, finishing their innings on 141 for six. There was success for the midlands outfit in the women's event, though, the Rockets claiming their first victory of the season in emphatic fashion. England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt led them to 149 for six with an unbeaten half-century, and they bowled out reigning champions Spirit for 116 with five balls remaining to claim a 33-run win. Openers Bryony Smith and Natasha Wraith set the tone for the visitors at Lord's with a partnership of 62 for the opening wicket – Smith scoring 42 from 23 balls. Both fell to Eva Gray, who then went on to dismiss Heather Graham and Emma Jones in successive balls, but Sciver-Brunt remained at the crease and finished her innings unbeaten on 51 from 29 balls. London Spirit lost wickets at regular intervals, with only Kira Chathli, Cordelia Griffith and Charli Knott reaching double figures, while Kirstie Gordon claimed four wickets for only 15 runs off 20 balls.
