Catriona Rowntree raves about Aussie city for a surprising reason - as it surpasses Sydney and Melbourne for thousands of tourists: 'Seamless'

Daily Mail23-04-2025

Move over Melbourne and Sydney, because Adelaide just got a glowing review from one of Australia's best-travelled TV hosts.
Veteran Getaway presenter Catriona Rowntree, 53, took to Instagram to shower praise on the South Australian capital.
'You only get one chance to make a first impression,' she wrote to her 121 thousand followers, before declaring that Adelaide scored an 11/10 in the tourism department.
According to Catriona, it wasn't just the sunshine, Shiraz or sandstone buildings that swayed her generous score, it was something far more humble: clean streets and clear signage.
'To enter a city seemingly devoid of rubbish, graffiti, with easy signage, a seamless airport… it makes a big impression,' she wrote.
And she's got a point.
With its Insta-worthy wine regions, a great art scene, historic architecture, and impressive night life, there's no wonder it's catching the attention of jetsetters like Catriona.
Let's also not forget that Adelaide was named 'most beautiful city in the world' in prestigious Architectural Digest list in 2024.
The South Australian capital edged out several global cities including New York, Paris and Barcelona.
Seasoned traveller Catriona, who has been to every corner of the globe during her 27 years hosting travel show Getaway, gave a shoutout to every unsung local hero helping to keep the streets pristine.
'We notice the little things.'
The post sparked a wave of hometown pride, with South Australians flooding the comments to agree.
One wrote, 'Adelaide's best-kept secret is out,' while another added, 'We love her AND we love our bins.'
It's not the first time Catriona has raved about one of Australia's 'hidden gems', previously giving Queensland's Maleny Lodge a perfect 10 out of 10 score.
Located in the vibrant Queensland town of the same name in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, Melany Lodge is just over an hour-and-a-half drive's north from Brisbane.
Catriona was lucky enough to stay at the 'gorgeous' boutique accommodation while she was filming in Maleny for her Channel Nine series Country House Hunters Australia.
'Maleny Lodge, high up amongst the Glasshouse Mountains, is where I chose to stay the moment I found out I was filming in this region for Country House Hunters,' she said in an Instagram video.
'I get really excited when I'm given the location, trying to find accommodation that I can recommend to you, which doesn't cost a bomb and supports the local community. Isn't this place gorgeous!'
The Aussie TV icon said she loved how owners Lucy and Andrew Pink cleverly converted the wardrobe in one of the bedrooms into a mini bar, as well as the dreamy clawfoot bath tub.
'It was built back in 1905 for a well-to-do family who had loads of kids, later changing hands to become a boarding house and recently new owners gave it a very swish upgrade,' Catriona explained.

Westlife star missing from upcoming shows after concerning year-long silence

Westlife are planning a new album and some 'special shows' to mark their 25th anniversary, but member Mark Feehily is missing from the celebrations following his health complications. The Flying Without Wings boy band – made up of Shane Filan, Nicky Byrne, Kian Egan and Mark – have teased some exciting projects in honour of the milestone, but they have confirmed Mark, 45, isn't able to be part of the plans. In a statement on X, they wrote: 'To our amazing fans, we would like to take this opportunity to share some very important news with you all. 'We are thrilled to announce the launch of our 25th Anniversary celebrations… 'On the 9th February 2001 we kicked off our first ever world tour at the Newcastle Arena. Who would have thought we would still be here 25 years later? 'We have so many exciting plans to share with you very soon which will include new music, an album, special shows and many, many more surprises along the way.' The band continued: 'Sadly, Mark will be unable to join the celebrations. 'We hope we can join us back on stage when he is ready and able. He sends his love and positivity to you all as always.' Mark stepped back from the group in February 2024 mid-tour due to health issues. He's been out of the public eye and appears to have been off social media for a year now, almost to the day. Explaining his health problems in a lengthy post as he bowed out of the tour last year, Mark said that his 'challenges' began in August 2020 while having surgery, which led to needing intensive care treatment. In the middle of Westlife's Wild Dreams worldwide tour, due to complications Mark ended up back in hospital and was told he had pneumonia. He had surgery again in May 2022. Mark detailed his 2020 hospital experience on Instagram: 'I spent the next few months in hospital. It was during lockdown. For months, due to strict Covid restrictions, I was not allowed any visitors including my fiancée [Cailean O'Neill] and my then 10-month-old daughter [Layla].' 'It was physically and mentally a very difficult time, not to mention traumatic having to spend so long in ICU.' He announced at the time: 'It is with the utmost level of regret that I must now temporarily stand down from all Westlife touring until a time that I have had the chance to fully recover from the turbulent journey I have been through as an individual. 'I wish things could be different!' The band added in their own statement: 'We would like to take this opportunity to send our brother, best friend and fellow band-mate, Mark so many well wishes as he takes the necessary time he needs to recover.' Mark was seemingly last active on social media on June 11, 2024, when he wished his Instagram followers a happy pride month, and he hasn't posted on his grid since. Fans noticed this absence as the big Westlife 25-years announcement came, with many taking to his social media to wish him well. kellzbellz29 wrote: 'Just realised it's been a year since this last post. We hope you are ok.' bramhaldrowena commented: 'We miss you, Mark. I'm hoping you're feeling OK and we can see you on stage as soon as you're feeling ready.' d_for_duls said: 'It's been a year since we last heard from you. Hope you're keeping well. Get well soon. Sending blessings and good vibes your way.' All four members of Westlife – which originally featured Brian McFadden before he left after six years in 2004 – 'can't quite believe' their longevity. More Trending The statement announcing the 25-years celebrations continued: 'The four of us can't quite believe it's been 25 years. 'We could only have dreamt of the continued love and loyalty you have consistently shown us around the world. 'We are so lucky to have all of you with us and we can't wait to celebrate together! Vicky Pattison left with anxiety, insomnia and dark thoughts in scary ordeal

Vicky Pattison has revealed she dealt with 'crippling anxiety, insomnia and dark thoughts' as she suffered a premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) episode recently Vicky Pattison has candidly opened up on the terrifying feelings she felt during her latest premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) episode. The former Geordie Shore star, 37, has regularly shared her condition with her followers in a bid to help others in her situation. And now the reality TV star has confessed to just how bad things got recently, explaining the "crippling anxiety, insomnia and dark thoughts" she dealt with. In a tearful update on Instagram, Vicky shared a clip of herself explaining how the condition is affecting her. ‌ In the clip, Vicky also showed how her stomach bloats during the painful moments. She also showed herself eating, attending work projects and laughing before walking her dog and showing a billboard for her Get A Grip podcast. ‌ The reel also showed her wedding day in a mix of emotions. Vicky captioned the upload: "The highs & lows of PMDD. It's always a bit of a mixed bag with my PMDD- some months aren't so bad & I feel hopeful. "And other months it just completely takes me out & I feel hopeless. Usually there's no real rhyme or reason. But last month I knew I was in for abit of a rough ride- I hadn't done anything that I know helps alleviate my symptoms." She went on: "I hadn't been consistent with my supplements, my diet was atrocious & my schedule was just unrelenting so I went into my luteal phase not really standing a chance. But despite my concerns, nothing could have prepared me." Vicky called the incident "terrifying", revealing she rang her sister in a desperate attempt as she didn't know what she was going to do. She told her how she also didn't know what she was capable of. ‌ The Geordie continued: "And after a week of crippling anxiety, insomnia, my inner critic finding fault at every turn & dark thoughts.. I know I meant it. And that's the thing with PMDD, one week you're this bright, shiny, brilliant woman who is strong, smart & ready for anything life throws at you.. & then your PMDD fog sets in and your brain convinces you that you're worthless, that everyone hates you & the world would be a better place without you in it. "Every month I lose myself & descend further & further into this self loathing state & this month almost got the better of me." She confessed she isn't looking for sympathy by sharing her story, but is talking out as she knows she is not alone. "Supposedly 1 in 20 women are dealing with PMDD, but due to medical misogyny, lack of awareness & misdiagnosis- I believe that number to be a lot higher. ‌ "Which means that there are thousands, if not millions of women suffering in silence or being ignored or gaslit into believing these things are normal. They aren't. You have a condition. A hormonal disorder & these thoughts are not a reflection of your actual value." She urged anyone dealing with the condition to know they are not alone as she candidly told them the world "is better for having you in it". In her defiant message, she signed off: "You are a warrior.. you are powerful & you are UNSTOPPABLE." Her honest words were met with an influx of praise in the comments section. Among those sending well wishes was Celebs Go Dating expert Anna Williamson. She wrote: "So beautifully articulated @vickypattison," alongside a clapping hands emoji and a red love heart. Angela Scanlon also gushed: "Love you very much." Una Healy was also among the thousands hitting the like button on the post.

Braless Madonna, 66, puts on a very racy display as she poses in a white tank top and lace underwear to mark Pride Month

Madonna turned up the heat with her latest Instagram post on Wednesday. The singer, 66, set pulses racing as she posed for a series of sizzling snaps on a bed with a small bunch of white flowers. Showing off her sensational figure, she left little to the imagination in a white tank top and lace underwear. Madonna teamed the look with tan stockings and styled her golden locks into a bouncy blowout as she gave her followers a treat for their eyes. She captioned the sexy snaps: : 'Love the Skin you're in. Happy Pride,' along with the Pride flag and a blue heart emoji. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. She also added the hashtag, Veronica Electronica, in reference to the remix album which is set to be released on July 25. The long-awaited remix album is the accompaniment to her 1998 record, Ray of Light. The snaps come just days after Madonna took to Instagram with a series of photos commemorating the 94th birthday celebration for her father Silvio Ciccone. The Express Yourself artist thanked her dad for passing down what she described as a 'zero F**** mentality!' that helped her conquer the world of entertainment. 'Happy Birthday to my Father,' the 66-year-old pop superstar said in the caption of a post to more than 19.9 million followers on the social media platform. The pop icon said of her father: 'He has survived many wars and many losses in his life and he still has a sense of humor and a strong desire to get out of bed every morning and make the most of his day.' The Grammy-winning singer, whose full name is Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone, hailed her father for his consistency over the years and strong work ethic as he approaches 100. 'Whenever people ask my father when he's going to retire, his answer is always the same: "I'm going to go until the wheels fall off"' the Like A Prayer vocalist said. She added the phrase S.A.M.E., ostensibly indicating she inherited the can-do mentality that's helped her conquer the entertainment industry over the past four decades. The artist of hits including Vogue, Material Girl and Like a Virgin said she felt that contemporary society tends to marginalize older people when they should be doing the exact opposite. 'It's a shame we do not live in a world that celebrates knowledge and experience and the wisdom that we can only learn from our elders who have survived for many decades on this planet,' Madonna said. She added, 'We are fixated on youth and physical beauty that ironically teaches us nothing and gives us only momentary gratification.' Madonna is mother to six children: Lourdes Leon, 28, Rocco Ritchie, 24, Mercy James, 19, David, 19, and twins Estere and Stella, 12. In an accompanying video post, the family was seen enjoying an extended birthday celebration that included a large banner; and outdoor sports such as soccer and horseback riding as summer sets in. Madonna herself looked radiant in multiple images in the gallery, including one in which she wore a blue print dress while her father enjoyed a slice of birthday cake. The Take a Bow songstress wrote 'Dad is Flexin on his 94th' in an adjacent post on Instagram Stories Tuesday that showed Silvio relaxing on a chair outdoors. Madonna wrapped up her initial post in saying, 'Good job, Dad!! I'm proud of you and I know Mom is smiling and Happy wherever she is,' referring to her late mother Madonna Louise Ciccone, who passed away in 1963 after a bout with breast cancer at 30. Madonna was five-years-old at the time of the tragic death and has spoken extensively about her heartbreak over it in recent years. 'I stood on stage for 81 shows staring up at the beautiful face of my mother and wondering what she must've been thinking as she waved goodbye to me from her hospital window,' the pop icon said last year about performing in front of her late matriarch's image while on her Celebration tour. She added: 'I stepped into the station wagon and shut the door not knowing it was the last time I'd see her. 'Nobody told me my mother was dying - I just watched her disintegrate mysteriously and then she disappeared and there was no explanation except that she had gone to sleep.'
