Gold in colour, costs $499: Five things to know about Trump's new ‘Made in America' phone

Indian Express4 hours ago

The Trump Organisation, led by Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, has launched 'Trump Mobile,' a new smartphone and wireless service. This venture aims to provide 'true value' to customers, particularly those underserved in the telecom industry. They claim their service will offer high-quality products and customer support, with a focus on conservative consumers.
The Trump-branded smartphone will sell for $499 (around ₹41,400). Images show a gold-coloured device, and the phone is currently available for pre-order on Trump Mobile's official website with a $100 (₹8,300) deposit.
The Trump family has said the phone will be made in the United States. But the BBC reported that industry experts have cast doubt on whether this is possible.
Professor Tinglong Dai from Johns Hopkins University told the BBC, 'They don't even have a working prototype. It's extremely unlikely.' Another analyst, Leo Gebbie from CCS Insight, said, 'The US simply does not have the high-tech supply chain needed to build smartphones from scratch.'
Gebbie added that the most likely scenario is that parts will be imported, and the phone may be assembled in the US.
Trump Mobile will also offer a mobile phone plan that costs $47.45 per month (about ₹3,940) offering unlimited service, free international calls, and US-based support.
The BBC reports that the announcement did not name the partner company running the service or explain the phone's technical specifications.
Some critics have raised concerns about President Trump's personal financial benefit while in office. Meghan Faulkner, from the group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, told the BBC, 'It's unbelievable that the Trump family has created yet another way for President Trump to personally profit while in office.'
The group also questioned whether the service might attract customers hoping to influence the president.
So far, the Trump Organisation has not explained how or where the phone will be produced. On a podcast, Eric Trump said that eventually, all phones 'can be built in the United States', suggesting the first batch might not be entirely US-made.
The company also hasn't revealed which firm will operate the mobile service or whether it will use existing mobile networks, like Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile.
In its announcement, the Trump Organisation said, 'Hard-working Americans deserve a wireless service that's affordable, reflects their values, and delivers reliable quality they can count on.'

Iran urges citizens to delete WhatsApp, claims data sent to Israel; company reacts

Iran on Tuesday called on its citizens to delete WhatsApp from their smartphones, accusing the messaging platform—without providing specific evidence—of collecting user data to share with Israel amid rising regional tensions, according to the Associated Press. WhatsApp responded to the accusation by stating that it does not supply 'any bulk of information to any government.' WhatsApp is a subsidiary of Meta Platforms, the same company that owns Facebook and Instagram. Follow live updates on Iran Israel war In its official statement, the company said it was 'concerned these false reports will be an excuse for our services to be blocked at a time when people need them the most.' It explained that its service is protected by end-to-end encryption, which ensures that messages are inaccessible to third parties, including service providers. 'We do not track your precise location, we don't keep logs of who everyone is messaging and we do not track the personal messages people are sending one another," WhatsApp said. 'We do not provide bulk information to any government.' The app's end-to-end encryption ensures that messages are scrambled so that only the sender and the intended recipient can read them. Any attempt to intercept such a message would only reveal unintelligible content that cannot be decoded without a unique key. Iran has a history of restricting access to social media platforms. Nevertheless, many Iranians continue to use these services via proxies or virtual private networks (VPNs). The government had banned WhatsApp and Google Play in 2022 during widespread protests triggered by the death of a woman in the custody of the morality police. That restriction was lifted late last year. Despite past bans, WhatsApp has remained among the most widely used messaging apps in Iran, alongside Instagram and Telegram. Israel and Iran exchanged fire once again on Tuesday, marking the fifth consecutive day of hostilities in what is being described as their most intense confrontation to date. The ongoing violence has heightened concerns over a prolonged war that could spread across the Middle East. US President Donald Trump escalated his rhetoric against Iran's Supreme Leader on Tuesday, declaring on social media that the US knows the location of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei but will not target him 'for now.' In a separate post, Trump called for Iran's 'UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!' prompting speculation over whether the US might directly support Israel in targeting Iran's leadership and nuclear infrastructure. Trump had previously stated that he wanted a 'real end' to the fighting, not merely a ceasefire. Vice President JD Vance added to the speculation, posting on X that Trump 'may decide he needs to take further action to end Iranian enrichment.' According to AFP, a White House official confirmed that Trump is holding a meeting of the National Security Council to assess the situation. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated that Israel's offensive aims to dismantle Iran's nuclear and missile capabilities, as well as its 'axis of terrorism,' referring to Tehran-backed militant groups in the region. He also did not rule out the possibility of assassinating Iran's Supreme Leader. As of Sunday, Iranian officials reported that Israeli strikes had killed at least 224 people and injured over 1,200, including high-ranking military figures and nuclear scientists. On the Israeli side, Netanyahu's office stated that Iran's attacks have resulted in 24 deaths and 592 injuries.

Can't compare to US stuff: Trump claims total control of skies over Iran

US President Donald Trump said that the United States now has complete and total control of the skies over Iran. On Truth Social, Trump wrote, "Iran had good sky trackers and other defensive equipment, and plenty of it, but it doesn't compare to American made, conceived, and manufactured 'stuff.' Nobody does it better than the good ol' USA."This comes after Trump's another provocative statement, where he said that US intelligence knows where Khamenei is currently located. "We know exactly where the so-called 'Supreme Leader' is hiding. He is an easy target, but is safe there — We are not going to take him out (kill!), at least not for now," he also issued a warning to Iran, saying: "But we don't want missiles shot at civilians, or American soldiers. Our patience is wearing thin." This is a developing story. It will be updated.

Microsoft confirms next-gen Xbox console with AMD partnership, multi-store support

Microsoft announced today that its next-generation Xbox console will feature AMD silicon and won't be restricted to a single game store, marking a significant shift in the company's gaming strategy. Xbox President Sarah Bond confirmed the development in a YouTube video, promising "an Xbox experience not locked to a single store or tied to one device." The tech giant has established a strategic multi-year partnership with AMD to co-engineer silicon across multiple gaming devices, including next-generation Xbox consoles for both living rooms and handheld gaming. This collaboration aims to deliver advanced graphics innovation and AI-enhanced gameplay while maintaining full compatibility with existing Xbox game libraries. Xbox breaks free from console-only gaming model Bond emphasized that Microsoft's vision centers on creating a gaming platform that follows players across all devices. The announcement comes days after Microsoft revealed its partnership with Asus to launch Xbox Ally handheld devices featuring a new full-screen Xbox experience running on Windows. This Windows-based approach allows access to multiple game stores, including Steam , signaling Microsoft's commitment to platform openness. Xbox + AMD: Powering the Next Generation of Xbox "This is all about building a gaming platform that's always with you, so you can play the games you want across devices anywhere you want," Bond stated. The company is working closely with its Windows team to position Windows as the premier gaming platform, supporting multiple storefronts and device types. Next-gen Xbox to preserve entire game library Microsoft has confirmed that next-generation Xbox consoles will maintain full backward compatibility with existing Xbox game libraries, addressing concerns raised after the Xbox Ally announcement. Unlike the Windows-based Xbox Ally devices, which can only run Xbox games with PC counterparts, the next-gen consoles will support the entire Xbox catalog. The partnership with AMD will focus on advancing gaming silicon technology to unlock deeper visual quality and immersive experiences enhanced by artificial intelligence. Microsoft's hardware investment spans consoles, handhelds, PC gaming, cloud services, and accessories, representing a comprehensive approach to next-generation gaming across multiple form factors and distribution channels. 7 Things You May Have Missed in the GTA 6 Second Trailer AI Masterclass for Students.
