Darsheel Safary Says He Doesn't Google Himself Or His Work: 'It Freaks Me Out'
Last Updated:
Darsheel Safary, known for Taare Zameen Par, admits to experiencing intense release anxiety. He avoids googling himself to cope with the overwhelming feeling of being scrutinised.
We often imagine actors basking in the limelight when their work hits the screens. But for Taare Zameen Par star Darsheel Safary, the spotlight comes with its own share of jitters. In a recent chat with News18 Showsha, the young actor opened up about something very relatable to actors: release anxiety. Darsheel is currently seen in the web series, Gamerlog.
'I freak out whenever any of my projects releases. I want to run away. I feel like hiding in some nice location to forget about everything," Darsheel admits with honesty. The actor, who's known for his grounded persona, confessed that the days around a project's release feel overwhelming. 'This anxiety is something I can't take. It feels like people are checking your work and you are looking ki kya right hai, kya wrong. This is 100 times more exaggerated for me," he added.
To cope, Darsheel has a rather simple rule – he avoids searching his name online. 'So I prefer not googling myself or my work," he said. 'It freaks me out."
In the same interview, the actor broke his silence on why he never became a staple in the Hindi film industry, despite such an iconic debut. Darsheel spoke with raw honesty about how unprepared he was for the sudden fame. 'I was someone who knew nothing about acting. My parents are not from an acting background. I had no idea how this industry works. Everything was new for me," he shared.
He added, 'In fact, I remember going to my parents asking, 'papa how much am I getting paid?' I had no idea about it and I was kept away from it for the longest time. I was told to focus on my work."
Despite being hailed as the child actor of a generation, Darsheel didn't see the kind of backing or projects one might have anticipated. Still, he chooses not to dwell on it with bitterness.
'You need to understand when to block out certain information. People will talk about everything but you can't shut everybody's mouth. I can't go into the details of what news is being planted about me," he said.
Darsheel further said, 'I would never even think about the fact that Bollywood didn't back me more. Who am I for them to back me? I am not their saga bhai. I just need to have talent and strength. I worked hard for that. It emotionally hurts thinking about such stuff honestly and derails you from your work."
