AuMas secures second injunction to safeguard tailings facility

Published on: Fri, May 30, 2025 Text Size: TAWAU: AuMas Resources Berhad has obtained a second court injunction to prevent further interference with critical safety works at its Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) in Tawau, following a disruption on May 17 allegedly led by Datuk Lo Fui Ming and Southsea Gold Sdn Bhd. The High Court's order, granted on May 29, restrains the defendants from obstructing rectification works and grants AuMas' subsidiary, Wullersdorf Resources, full access to carry out repairs. The facility's safety was compromised after unauthorised machinery blocked drains and redirected water flow. Despite emergency repairs, AuMas claims the efforts were sabotaged in defiance of Mineral and Geoscience Department (JMG) directives. The company now moves forward with legally protected rectification under JMG and Environment Protection Department (EPD) oversight. Esteel's RM31 billion project a vote of confidence in Sabah's future, says Hajiji

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor has hailed the RM31 billion three-phase project by Esteel Enterprise Sabah Sdn Bhd as a major milestone for the state's economic development. He said it would generate jobs, foster innovation and support local businesses. Speaking at the launch of the project's Phase 1 at the Sabah International Convention Centre yesterday, Hajiji thanked Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Singapore-based Green Esteel Group for backing Sabah's industrial ambitions. 'This project is not merely a financial commitment. It is a vote of your confidence in our vision and in our capacity to foster growth and development,' he said in his speech. Hajiji added that the steel manufacturing plant, located in the Sipitang Oil and Gas Industrial Park (Sogip), is expected to create a wide range of 'ripple effects' in sectors such as green technology and local entrepreneurship. He said job creation must benefit Sabahans first and urged industry players to prioritise the training and upskilling of the local workforce. Hajiji also credited more than a dozen federal and state agencies for their role in fast-tracking approvals for the Esteel project and assured the group that their 'trust is well-placed'. Man charged with using fake government document

Kota Kinabalu: A 40-year-old man was charged in the Magistrate's Court here on Thursday with using a fake government document worth RM570,000, related to the supply of Covid-19 RTK-Ag rapid test kits three years ago. Zaimih Hammat, self-employed, pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus to committing the offence on March 17, 2022 at a law firm in Lintas Plaza, here. Zaimih is accused of dishonestly using a fake government order worth RM570,000, as genuine to supply and deliver 30,000 Covid-19 RTK-Ag rapid test kits to the Chief Minister's Office for April, dated Feb 21, 2022. The charge is framed under Section 471 of the Penal Code and punishable under Section 465 of the same Code, which carries a jail term of up to two years, or a fine, or both, on conviction. The prosecution proposed bail at RM4,000. Counsel Hannan Razaini, representing Zaimih, requested a lower bail amount in one surety. The court fixed July 17 for mention and released the accused on a bail of RM2,500 in one surety. Advertisement In another case, a 52-year-old woman was fined RM100, or jailed three days for failing to explain cash deposits of RM5,000 into her bank account. Magret Kundahal admitted to failing to provide a reasonable explanation as to how she had obtained RM5,000 belonging to Law Cheng Leh, on Oct 24, 2019, at 3.45pm, here. Magret was charged under Section 22A(1) of the Minor Offences Ordinance, which provides for a fine of up to RM100, or a jail term of up to three months, or both, on conviction. The court was told by the prosecution that the complainant had fallen victim to an online love scam. She had never met the man in person and only communicated with him via WhatsApp. The complainant became acquainted with a man who later claimed he would be sending her a gift. She then received a call from someone claiming to be from a courier service, asking her to pay a customs clearance fee. Following the instructions, she transferred RM5,000 to a bank account under the name of Magret.
