Tánaiste to meet family of Private Séan Rooney next week
In a statement, Natasha Rooney criticised what she said was a "sham trial" in Lebanon that convicted and sentenced those involved in his death.
She also referenced Mr Harris, saying: "In a country where victims' rights ought to be paramount, it would perhaps be wise for the Tánaiste to speak to me, before seeking to speak for me, in his public statements".
In response, the Tánaiste - who is also Minister for Foreign Affairs and Defence - said that he accepted the point made and will "reserve any further comment" until he meets Pte Rooney's family next week.
"I'll be meeting Natasha next week and I'm going to reserve any further comment until I meet her.
"Natasha is a grieving mother fighting for justice for her son who died while serving with absolute distinction.
"He has my absolute and total respect, as does his family, and I'll reserve making any further comments until I engage with Natasha directly," Mr Harris said.
Pte Rooney, who was 24 and from Newtowncunningham in Co Donegal, was killed when their armoured vehicle was fired on in Lebanon on 14 December 2022.

‘No evidence of violence' after Irish fashion designer found dead on boat in US
There is no evidence of violence in the death of an Irish fashion designer who was found on a boat at a yacht club on Long Island, New York police have said. A postmortem examination of Martha Nolan-O'Slatarra 'did not show evidence of violence' and her cause of death requires further examination, Suffolk County Police Department said in a statement. Ms Nolan-O'Slatarra was discovered unconscious on the boat at Montauk Yacht Club in the early hours of Tuesday. She was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services. The Department of Foreign Affairs said it is aware of the case and is providing consular assistance. The 33-year-old, who is originally from Co Carlow but was living in Manhattan, graduated from University College Dublin (UCD) and later completed a masters degree in digital marketing in Smurfit Business School. 'Good Samaritans attempted to perform CPR on the woman. Martha Nolan-O'Slatarra, 33, of Manhattan, was pronounced dead on the boat by first responders. 'The preliminary investigation and exam were inconclusive regarding the cause of death, which will be determined by an autopsy conducted by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office.' Daniel O'Connell commemorated at event marking 250th anniversary of The Liberator's birth
The life and legacy of Daniel O'Connell was commemorated at a state-led event marking the 250th anniversary of The Liberator's birth in Co Kerry on Wednesday. The event, held at Derrynane House in Caherdaniel, featured spoken word, music, and family reflections inspired by O'Connell's legacy. Derrynane House, O'Connell's home and a place of great symbolic importance, served as a fitting backdrop for the commemoration. Tearful tribute paid to young Irish fashion designer found dead on yacht in USA
The business partner of a young Irish fashion designer found dead on a yacht in the US has posted a heartwarming tribute to her on social media following her death. The founder of fashion label East x East, Martha Nolan-O'Slatarra, was discovered unconscious at midnight onboard a boat docked at the Montauk Yacht Club. People rushed out and made attempts to save her life, but East Hampton Town Police later pronounced her dead at the scene. Dylan Grace, Martha's business partner at design company East x East, wrote a touching tribute to his dear friend on Instagram alongside a number of photos of them, sharing how he was 'truly blessed and grateful' to have had her in his life. He wrote: 'We dreamed big together, laughed harder than anyone else could understand, and built so much from nothing. I'm truly blessed and grateful to have had you in my life. Love you so much Mar. Fly high girl." Martha moved to New York at the age of 26, where she began working as a sales rep for a fintech start-up working with top-tier hedge funds before launching her East x East brand, a clothing and apparel line that specialises in eyewear, swimwear and resortwear. The details that led to her death remain unknown but are being investigated by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office. While it's unclear exactly how the 33-year-old died, a boater at the scene described the ship in which she was found, named Ripple, as in fact a 'party boat'.
