Libya's youth praised for strong turnout in municipal elections
Al-Zunni said more than 25 young men and women, all members of local youth councils, stood as candidates in 22 of the 26 municipalities where elections were held. He described this as clear evidence of growing awareness among young people about the importance of taking part in local governance.
'This is not just about numbers or symbolic presence,' the minister said in a statement on Sunday. 'It reflects a deep understanding that positive change starts at the grassroots, and that municipal councils are genuine platforms for building a better future.'
He added that the high level of participation also demonstrated the results of two years of training and capacity-building provided to youth in the fields of local administration and elections.
Concluding, Al-Zunni reaffirmed the ministry's commitment to backing young leaders in municipal councils. 'We are proud of this national spirit and sense of responsibility. Our young people represent not only the future of the nation, but also its vibrant and ambitious present,' he said. Tags: youth municipal elections

Guterres warns of ISIS in Libya merging with criminal networks in Sahel region
UN Secretary-General António Guterres warned of an attempt by ISIS to merge with transboundary organized crime networks involved in arms and goods smuggling and the transport of fighters. Guterres submitted the twenty-first report to the UN Security Council on the threat posed by ISIS to international peace and security and the efforts of the United Nations to support countries in combating this threat. In his report sent to the Council in early August, Guterres confirmed that the organization's operational isolation was significant, but that it was attempting to maintain a foothold through criminal networks. This was revealed by seven arrests made by Libyan authorities in 2025, targeting individuals linked to the organization's logistical and financial networks in the Sahel region.
