Chesney Hawkes reveals the touching reason he finally went on Celebrity Big Brother after an 'incredibly tough time'

Daily Mail22-05-2025

Chesney Hawkes has revealed he chose to go on Celebrity Big Brother after his best friend urged him to 'take life by the horns' before passing away the next day.
The singer, 53, appeared on FUBAR Radio's showbiz programme Access All Areas, and got candid with hosts Bobby Norris and Ellen Coughlan.
The One and Only hitmaker, who had previously turned down chances to go on the show, said: 'I'll be very honest, my best friend passed away earlier this year, and it's obviously [an] incredibly tough time for me.
'And I had a magical hour with him just before the day before he died, where he said, 'Obviously, life is short.
''I want you to just take life by the horns, smash it to pieces, say yes to the crazy s**t, and just to live out loud.'
'And he used all of those words and literally he died a day after that, and a week after that, I got approached by Big Brother.'
In the episode, Chesney also gave his thoughts on the relationship between Jojo Siwa and Chris Hughes, with rumours of a romantic relationship between the two confirmed by snaps of the pair kissing in a pool this week.
Chesney said he was close with the duo, and added that the pair were each other's support.
He claimed that when contestant Mickey Rourke spoke inappropriately to JoJo, the former Love Island star was there for her.
Mickey was eventually ousted from the Big Brother house for 'unacceptable behaviour'.
Chesney added: 'Chris was there to support, and he was absolutely brilliant.'
Chesney said that while on the show, he only ever saw a 'very sweet platonic relationship' between the pair, and that whatever was happening now was none of his business.
He added: 'All I do know is they're very much part of each other's lives and I think they have a connection that is very special.'
Later in the show, Chesney spoke about his kids' reaction to his sex party confession on the show: 'To be honest with you, I made a video just before I went in the Big Brother house completely naked.
'So they're just thinking, I'm having a, you know, midlife crisis.'
In April Chesney's wife Krissy shared her side of the story after the singer claimed they had visited a 'sex club' together where she whipped him.
The hitmaker admitted he was first whipped by a 'muscly guy in a thong', before claiming that his wife also had a turn.
However, keen to dismiss any speculation that the married couple regularly visit sex clubs together, Krissy has now weighed in on the situation.
'It was a one-off spontaneous moment - not something we've got booked in the calendar regularly! For us, it's all about fun and spontaneity.'
Chesney revealed the tawdry tale while taking part in The Big Fame Board Game during an episode.
The stars took their minds off eviction by taking part in the challenge and putting their celebrity status to the test.
Working in teams, they were tasked with their human playing piece around a board filled with tasks to complete, with the winning side promised exclusive access to Big Brother's VIP drinks reception later in the evening.
Chesney had to lift the lid on some headline-grabbing information about himself, saying: 'I was once in a sex club and I was whipped in front of the whole club and there are photos to prove it.'
A shocked Chris Hughes asks, 'Who was whipping you?' to which the One And Only hitmaker responds: 'A very muscly butch guy in a thong, followed by my wife.'
He is then quizzed: 'Did you enjoy it?'

Love Island star's secret connection to previous finalist is revealed ahead of their arrival in the villa

Love Island has confirmed the full line-up of contestants set to enter the villa for the 12th series on June 9, for another season of love triangles, bedroom trysts and messy breakups. After joining the popular dating series in January 2023, Maya Jama will once again be at the helm, as the ITV2 show celebrates a decade on screens and promises to have 'more twists and turns than ever before' in honour of the anniversary. This year's crop of hopefuls include a Declan Rice body double, a firebreather and a Maura Higgins lookalike. But one of the new Islanders may have an edge on his fellow castmates, as he boasts a connection to a previous finalist. According to The Sun, Dejon Noel-Williams is pals with 2023 star Tyrique Hyde, who made it all the way to the final with then-girlfriend Ella Thomas. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Dejon, who plays football semi-professionally alongside his job as a personal trainer, is also the son of former Premier League striker Gifton. Ex-Watford and Stoke striker Gifton, 45, began his professional football career in 1996 and last played for Codicote in 2017 before retiring. And during his time at Watford from 1996 to 2003, he was teammates with none other than Micah Hyde, who is the father of Tyrique. The two stars played together at the club and looked to have been good friends, with their sons Dejon and Tyrique being the same age. The two boys also both followed in their fathers' footsteps by becoming footballers themselves. And in his role as a personal trainer, Dejon also counts Tyrique as one of his clients, with the duo often sharing videos of them working out at the gym together. Ahead of his villa entrance, Dejon revealed that he 'met all kinds of famous people' because of his footballing father and even remarked on a meeting with David Beckham. He said: 'When I was younger it was weird because he was just my dad, but we'd go to a game and fans were asking for photos. I've met David Beckham, he was really nice.' Dejon, from London, boasts 11,000 followers on social media thanks in part to his regular shirtless gym snaps and in 2021, represented the Grenada national football team. His bio reads: 'I go beyond the gym -helping you build Strength, Confidence & Discipline for life.' Asked what he was looking for in a girl in the villa, he said he wanted someone who 'is beautiful on the inside and out, looks after themselves and is healthy'. Tyrique shot to fame on the 2023 series with his romance with Ella being heavily tested with some dramatic ups and downs. They exited the villa together, but shortly after announced they'd split in November 2023, before trying to give it another go. But, in February 2024, MailOnline exclusively revealed Ella and Tyrique had parted ways permanently - after six months as a couple. A source told MailOnline: 'Ella and Tyrique have decided it's time to go their separate ways. 'They have such love for each other, but they often struggle to get along and as viewers saw in the villa, they're always arguing.' Tyrique and Ella exited the villa together, but shortly after announced they'd split in November 2023, before trying to give it another go, before parting ways permanently in February last year (pictured in September 2023) Meanwhile, Dejon is not the only footballing connection in the upcoming series, as fans of the lower leagues may have spotted a star dubbed 'The Surrey Zidane'. Harry Cooksley, 29, is a midfielder for Southern League Premier South side Farnham Town, while also working as a gold trader and model. But more interestingly, his pastimes include being a body double for Arsenal and England star Declan Rice. Harry revealed: 'So when he does a shoot, any body close ups will actually be me. Rylan Clark admits he felt like a 'complete failure' after his divorce from ex-husband Dan Neal

has emotionally admitted he felt like a 'failure' following his divorce from ex-husband Dan Neal. The TV presenter, 36, split with Dan in 2021 after six years of marriage when Rylan admitted he cheated on him. On what would have been their ten-year wedding anniversary this year, Rylan got candid about how he felt following the divorce. Speaking on his new podcast Rylan: How to Be in Love with Stephen Fry, he said: 'We got married in 2015. 'That same year, yeah. So it would have been my 10 year anniversary this year.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Stephen then asked if Rylan felt any kind of responsibility to represent gay marriage, as one of the few LGBTQ + celebrities. He asked: 'But did you feel also that - when it broke up and you were divorced – did you feel that there was in some sense you were letting down the idea of gay marriage, because we have a duty to show that our marriages are as robust and strong as any heterosexual?' Rylan said: 'There was part of me that just felt like a complete and utter failure. I felt like I'd failed personally, but I felt like I'd found publicly on behalf of - the gays! You know, I'm not, I'm not 'head gay', it's not that.' Stephen reassured: 'No, you're not, exactly. You're not a poster child for gayness.' Rylan continued: 'But you do feel like, yeah I'm going to get married, I want to get married, I can get married. 'But when it doesn't work out you don't want people to go, "you see that's why they f****** shouldn't get married".' Stephen was quick to insist: 'You can get married again if you want…', causing Rylan to hint at his divorce struggles as he quipped: 'Yeah with a prenup this time, I'm not going through that again.' Rylan previously revealed his own infidelity during his marriage with Dan caused the downfall of their relationship. After he revealed that he had been unfaithful, Dan eventually ended the relationship after the heart-wrenching confession. Following the heartbreak and the deterioration of his marriage, Rylan had suicidal thoughts and his weight dropped to just nine stone. He opened up about these challenging times in his second autobiography, TEN: The Decade That Changed My Future. In the book, he penned a candid reflection and said: 'I got in a relationship quite young and just went with it. Now I know I'm my own person. I'm not going to settle for something that's not right. In a way it's been a bit of a gift.' 'I'm happy to have sex with someone and that's that, that's not a problem. But do I want more? Of course I want more. Am I going to enjoy myself on the way? Abso-f***ing-lutely.'

An Olympics-style operation and the major difference between UK and US coverage: INSIDE TENNIS goes behind the scenes with TNT Sports at the French Open

It is towards the end of my peek behind the curtain when we duck into a bunker-type room, completely dark other than thousands of dials, switches and buttons - and the light coming from an enormous wall of screens. Bank on bank of monitors showing courts, crowds, backstage shots and interviews. A crew member remarks: 'That's what covering 18 courts, in 19 languages, in 49 countries looks like.' Mail Sport has gone behind the scenes on the gargantuan broadcasting operation that is TNT Sport at the French Open 2025.
