In an epic final round at Oakmont, Spaun sank a stunning 65-foot birdie on the 18th hole to finish at 1-under par, the only player in the field to finish under par.
Spaun's final-round 72, which included five bogeys in the opening six holes, turned around with clutch birdies at the 12th, 14th, and 17th before the unforgettable final putt. The newest U.S. Open winner greatly benefitted from a reset after the lengthy weather delay.
MacIntyre, who shot an impressive 68 in tough conditions, finished second after setting the clubhouse lead at 1-over par. Despite the loss, the Scot was full of praise, applauding with genuine sportsmanship.

The moment meant even more as it fell on Father's Day. Spaun's wife, Melody, and their daughters, Emerson and Violet, were on hand to witness the emotional victory. 'Dada won! Look at that trophy!' the girls cheered, beaming with pride.

Spaun's wife couldn't hold back her emotions as well.
'Honestly, I feel like he's always been the underdog, and he's finally proved himself,' she shared in an interview posted Sunday by the PGA Tour. 'He finally feels like he belongs here, and he's showing it.'
Spaun, who just the night before had joked about needing room service after a long day, dedicated the win to his family.
'She's back at the hotel with our two girls... they're probably going to bed any minute now,' Spaun told reporters on Saturday.
From playing on the Canadian Tour to hoisting the U.S. Open trophy, Spaun's journey has been nothing short of remarkable, a victory made even sweeter by the love and support of his tight-knit family.

Alexander Zverev through to Cincinnati third round
Germany's Alexander Zverev eased into the third round of the Cincinnati Masters on Tuesday with a 6-3, 6-3 win over US wildcard Nishesh Basavareddy in his final tune-up before the US Open. Seeded third, the 28-year-old broke serve twice in the first set and once in the second, wrapping up the match in 66 minutes with an ace. He will next face American Brandon Nakashima, who defeated Germany's Alexander Blockx 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5). Zverev, who had a first-round bye, is looking to rebound from last week's semifinal loss in Toronto, where he squandered a match point. Earlier, Carlos Alcaraz overcame a tricky contest against world number 56 Damir Dzumhur to win 6-1, 2-6, 6-3. In other action, fifth seed Ben Shelton was also through to the third round after Argentina's Camilo Ugo Carabelli retired at 6-3, 3-1 for the American. Australia's Adam Walton delivered the shock of the tournament so far, defeating former world number one Daniil Medvedev 6-7, 6-4, 6-1 to book a spot in the third round, where he will face Jiri Lehecka.

UFC Heavyweight Released Despite Nearly Flawless Octagon Run
UFC Heavyweight Released Despite Nearly Flawless Octagon Run originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Abu Dhabi card delivered action, but one heavyweight's win wasn't enough to save his spot UFC Abu Dhabi delivered its share of thrills, especially in the main event where Reinier de Ridder defeated former champion Robert Whittaker in a high-stakes clash. While the spotlight belonged to the headliners, a surprising roster shake-up took place just beneath the surface. One victorious heavyweight may have just competed in his final UFC bout—despite adding another win to his résumé. Promising UFC heavyweight Martin Buday, 33, picked up a solid unanimous decision win over Marcus Buchecha on the undercard. But according to MMA Fighting's Mike Heck, that performance wasn't enough to secure his place on the roster. 'The UFC has parted ways with Martin Buday following Buday's UFC Abu Dhabi win over Marcus Buchecha,' Heck reported. 'Buday fought out his deal, and the UFC elected not to re-sign the ranked heavyweight.' The news, also confirmed by @guicruzzz, came as a shock given Buday's recent form. The Slovak heavyweight walks away from the promotion with a 7-1 record, including a win over former champion Andrei Arlovski. He was riding a three-fight win streak and had just begun to find his rhythm in the division. Still, the UFC opted not to bring him back—possibly clearing space amid a reshuffling of the division. With Dana White and the UFC kickstarting the heavyweight division once again—especially with Tom Aspinall returning at UFC 321 in October—and the retirement of Jon Jones, the promotion appears set on stacking fresh talent to mix things up. And while Buday was never quite a contender, the timing of his release—despite a nearly flawless UFC record—adds a curious footnote to an evolving weight class. Max Holloway Drops Concerning Update on Future Plans
Max Holloway Drops Concerning Update on Future Plans originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Holloway reveals injury setback weeks after win in UFC 318 main event After bouncing back from a devastating knockout loss to Ilia Topuria, Max Holloway made a triumphant return at UFC 318. Facing Dustin Poirier in a highly anticipated trilogy bout for the BMF belt—Poirier's official retirement fight—Holloway reminded fans of his elite status. He delivered a clean, calculated performance and walked away with a unanimous decision victory. Weeks later, though, a sobering update revealed that not all was well behind the scenes. In an exclusive post-fight recap video posted to his YouTube channel, Holloway shared that his right hand suffered more damage than expected. The featherweight-turned-lightweight contender admitted, 'If you're hoping to see me fight before the end of the year, that's probably not going to happen. I'm seeing a specialist sometime this week. I've already met with my doctor, and things aren't looking good for me to fight again this year.' The update casts doubt over his availability in what was shaping up to be a red-hot lightweight division. With this news, Holloway will likely sit on the sidelines and assess how the lightweight picture evolves in his absence. It's a frustrating development for the Hawaiian fan favorite, who just regained momentum with a unanimous decision win over Poirier. Holloway has fought three times at lightweight—twice against Poirier and once against Justin Gaethje—making this win even more meaningful. His absence delays any potential rematches with Charles Oliveira or Ilia Topuria, both of whom he previously faced at featherweight, or a second meeting with Justin Gaethje. The injury may have paused his run, but it hasn't killed the hype. As always, the UFC and Dana White are sure to craft something special for Holloway's eventual return—whenever that may be.
