SA20 Season 4: Fixtures announced

The fixtures for the fourth season of the Betway SA20 have been announced.
The competition will get going earlier than normal, on Boxing Day (26 December) this year, when defending champions, MI Cape Town, take on Durban's Super Giants, at Newlands.
The following day, Saturday 27 December, will see the first double header of Season 4 with Centurion hosting the Jukskei derby between the Pretoria Capitals and Joburg Super Kings while Paarl Royals and Sunrisers Eastern Cape clash at Boland Park in Paarl.
Kingsmead, home of Durban's Super Giants, will be a hive of activity in the week leading up to the New Year with the east coast venue welcoming both MI Cape Town (28 December) and Joburg Super Kings (30 December) within the space of a couple of days.
Fans at the coast will have the opportunity to toast in the New Year in style with another double header set for Gqeberha and Cape Town on 31 December 2025.
Two-time champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape will welcome Paarl Royals at an always jovial St George's Park in the afternoon (1pm), with the excitement building up for MI Cape Town and Pretoria Capitals at Newlands later in the day (5.30pm).
'Make most of festive season'
The festivities will continue on New Year's Day when the Joburg Super Kings and Durban's Super Giants look to start 2026 on a high note at the Wanderers.
'Season 4 of Betway SA20 will be unique,' League Commissioner, Graeme Smith said. 'We've carefully planned the fixtures to make the most of the festive season and school holidays, we want SA20 to be a part of the holiday season festivities in our once-off window for this year.
'With the early part of the fixtures weighted towards our coastal venues, holidaymakers from around the country will have a fantastic entertainment option fit for the entire family. We're also excited to host New Year's Eve and New Year's Day fixtures for the first time, we can't wait to be a part of the New Year's celebrations with the fans.'
Final squads will be confirmed at the next auction, set for 9 September.
The final of the competition will take place on 25 January, with Qualifier 1 scheduled for 21 January, the Eliminator on 22 January and Qualifier 2 on 23 January. Venues for the final and the playoffs will be confirmed at a later date.

However, the left-handed batter has all the shots and batting tempo to succeed as a T20I opener, as proven in the SA20 and IPL earlier this year. Next Stay Close ✕ The 29-year-old told the media on Wednesday that, whether he opens with 19-year-old Lhuan-dré Pretorius or Aiden Markram, he will not change his natural brand of cricket, as it fits the vision of the current T20 side. 'I can honestly say I'm still trying to establish myself in the T20 side. From my own personal point of view, luckily enough, there is experience around me within T20Is, such as Aiden and Rassie,' said Rickelton. 'I don't think there'll be any expectation for me to change anything in what I've been doing these last two years. It's just an opportunity for me to hopefully claim that opening spot for the South African side going into the T20 World Cup and beyond. 'So, definitely not trying to change the way I play. I think the way the team is structured, it fits the mould and how they want me to play, too. "So, pretty comfortable with what's required. Always looking to take or make that first punch and get the side off to a good start, no matter who's alongside me at the top.' The Proteas will face Australia for the first time since they beat them at Lord's in the World Test Championship final in June. Rickelton said the squad takes confidence from that result, despite the change in format. 'It is a different format, but I think the Lord's victory instilled belief not just within the group, but within the wider cricketing community in South Africa. It definitely gives us confidence that we can do these things we speak about and dream about,' he said. 'It's a different format, a crazy format — anything can happen, and the game can change in the space of a few deliveries. 'So, we're looking forward to trying to take momentum from a few months ago, especially with the guys coming back as well, and trying to win a series here in Australia.' Rickelton, alongside Kagiso Rabada, Aiden Markram and Tristan Stubbs, returns to action for the first time since the WTC final, after being rested for the tour to Zimbabwe. The southpaw revealed that, while they may not have understood the reason for the break at first, they now feel refreshed and hungry to return. 'It's been a few of us who've been on the road for quite a period of time, and before the break comes, you might not really be looking forward to it or understand the need for it. But I think, looking back now, it was really beneficial to me,' said Rickelton. 'I chatted to the guys who've been on break — Aiden, Tristan, Marco, KG — they look really chuffed with life. KG's raring to go again. Aiden looks like he's got that spark in his eye again. He's keen to get going as well. 'So, it's important to just have that switch-off. The exposure you have to cricket can be a little bit too much sometimes. So, to be able to step out is quite nice. 'And if you look at the rest of the year, all the way through to the end of the IPL next year, it's pretty packed — not just for the five of us, but for the collective group as well. 'So it's important to have that break, and the five of us are very chuffed with it. I'm very chuffed with it. And like I said, we're happy to be back and really ready to go.' The Proteas will play three T20Is and three ODIs in Australia, with the first T20I set to get underway on Sunday, 10 August.

Markram is set to lead the squad in three T20Is in Australia, which includes three exciting youngsters selected for the first time in a Proteas full-strength squad. This follows the youngsters' excellent performances in Zimbabwe last month, the 2024/25 domestic season, the SA20, and the Indian Premier League. Meanwhile, Maphaka was crowned T20 Challenge Player of the Year for his heroics in leading the Lions to victory in the competition last season. Markram, understanding the importance of giving the trio the space and freedom to play their own way, told the media on Friday that he wants to see them continue playing fearless cricket. The 30-year-old himself was once a youngster in a changeroom with the likes of AB de Villiers, Hashim Amla, and Faf du Plessis, making him the right man to guide the youngsters through what is usually a tough country to tour. 'For your young guys, the last thing you want to do is try to clip their wings. You want to let them fly and do their thing,' said Markram. 'I think we've seen it on various stages around the world now — in SA20 and elsewhere — that they are proper X-Factor players who can transition to international cricket quite easily, and they've proven it now.

Exciting young batters Dewald Brevis and Lhuan-dre Pretorius will next be in action against the Australians Down Under. Proteas T20 captain Aiden Markram says he will allow the number of exciting young players in his squad to play their natural attacking games when the South Africans come up against Australia in three matches Down Under from next weekend. Coach Shukri Conrad has picked a number of rookie players for the tour, including Dewald Brevis, Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Kwena Maphaka, as well as Nandre Burger, George Linde, Senuran Muthusamy, Nqaba Peter and Prenelan Subrayen, who all don't have a ton of experience at international level. It is mostly the big-hitting Brevis and Pretorius who Markram would have been alluding to when asked what advice he'd give to some of the younger players in his squad for the tour. 'They must keep taking the game on' 'For any young guys the last thing you want to try do is clip their wings,' said Markram on Friday ahead of the team's departure to Australia on Saturday. 'You want to let them fly, do their thing. 'We've seen in the SA20 that they're proper X-factor players, and have taken to international cricket easily. 'I don't have too much advice for them. They must keep taking the game on and not be scared about disappointments or failures. 'It's been great to see their progress, they're going to play a massive role in the future of cricket for South Africa, and that's what we're excited about.' Unfamiliar territory The Proteas will take on the Aussies, who're fresh off a five-nil T20 series whitewash against the West Indies in the Caribbean, in Darwin and Cairns. Markram said they didn't know too much about the grounds and conditions they'd face in these unfamiliar venues. 'Not many of us would have played at those venues, so it is a bit more challenging, but it'll be important for us to assess things as quickly as possible, after a couple of balls, and plan from there. We'll tackle it head on on game day and see what the conditions offer.' The Proteas' ODI team, under Temba Bavuma, will also face the Australians in three matches after the T20 series. They'll only depart for Australia at a later date.
