'Leading the team in batting average, OPS, he's been tremendous for us. He makes us all better. He's special. The defensive play he made today, running the bases the right way. He's turning himself into a well-rounded player. He's a very special player and we're glad he's on our team.' Lindor is dealing with a broken pinky toe, however, that didn't stop him from delivering a clutch two-run double himself, with Alonso sliding into home plate for their fourth run of the game, clinching the win. Perhaps even more impressive is the fact that he was able to steal a couple of bases along the way. Lindor's success on the basepaths earned him some praise from Mets manager Carlos Mendoza. "He's a player, he's not going to back down,' Mendoza said after the game (h/t SNY). 'If he's in the lineup he's not going to use that as an excuse... not surprised by it." Jeff McNeil and Jared Young also homered, and Brandon Nimmo and Luis Torrens each drove in two runs in New York's 8-1 win -- a matchup of teams with the National League's best and worst records. The Mets, a season-high 17 games over .500 at 41-24, improved to 5-0 against the Rockies this season. The loss dropped Colorado to 12-52, matching the 1932 Boston Red Sox for the worst 64-game start to an MLB season since 1901. Clay Holmes (7-3) gave up nine hits in six innings, but just one earned run. He had six strikeouts and no walks. Maurico gave the Mets a 1-0 lead in the third with his homer, the longest hit by New York this season.
