66 Maoists carrying cash bounty of Rs 2.31cr surrender in Chhattisgarh

RAIPUR: As many as 66 Maoists, including 49 top rank cadres carrying a cumulative bounty of Rs 2.31crore, on Thursday surrendered before police and paramilitary officials across five districts of Chhattisgarh's Bastar division.
There were four women Maoists among those who surrendered.
About 1,570 Maoists have renounced violence and surrendered in the past 18 months.
Most of the top-ranking Maoists who surrendered were from Bijapur district. These cadres include state zonal committee member (SZCM) Ramanna Irpa, carrying cash bounty of Rs 25 lakh. He surrendered along with 24 others. They carried a total bounty of Rs 1.15 crore.
"Maoists, with a bounty of Rs 2.31crore, have surrendered in Bastar division under the 'Poona Margham' (rehabilitation and social integration) campaign," Bastar range IGP P Sundarraj said.
Ramanna alias Jagdish alias Vikesh, a 37-year-old SZCM from Bijapur, was considered the "nerve centre" of Maoist operations in the Red Corridor linking Malkangiri in Odisha, Sukma, and Bijapur in Chhattisgarh.
He was active since 2002 and commanded company number 8. Ramanna oversaw jungle warfare training, arms procurement, and coordinated major attacks on security forces across Odisha and Chhattisgarh and was involved in at least 40 incidents of violence.

"I joined the Maoist organisation inspired by the 'Jal-Jungle-Jameen' campaign. But, in the past 25 years, promises that the organisations made were never met and no development done. It's a hollow ideology," Ramanna told mediapersons in Bijapur.
"This transformation is not a coincidence, but a clear testament to the widespread acceptance of our govt's surrender and rehabilitation policy and welfare-oriented initiatives.
Programmes like the Niyad Nellanar Yojana have laid a strong foundation of trust in tribal-dominated regions," Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai said.
In Dantewada district, 15 Maoists surrendered, including five carrying a total reward of Rs 17lakh. Budhram alias Lalu - a DVCM -- and his wife Kamli alias Moti Potavi, an area committee member, topped the list, with bounties of Rs 8lakh and Rs 5lakh, respectively. The duo was associated with the movement for over two decades.
Another major surrender unfolded in Kanker district with 13 Maoists, carrying a combined bounty of Rs 62lakh.
The most high-profile among them was Manglu alias Rupesh alias Arun Komra, a military company number one commander, wanted for a series of deadly ambushes between 2006 and 2024. He carried a bounty of Rs 10lakh.

Mumbai: In a major intelligence-based crackdown against narcotics trade, the Mumbai Police has busted a mephedrone drug manufacturing racket by uncovering a clandestine factory hidden behind a garage in Karnataka's Mysuru and seized contraband to the tune of Rs 390 crore. Four accused have been arrested in connection with the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Saki Naka police station of Mumbai was able to make the drug bust in a closely coordinated effort with the Mysuru City police.'The successful seizure of Rs 390 crore worth Mephedrone from Mysuru is a significant milestone in our continued efforts to eliminate drugs from their very source,' Mumbai Police chief Deven Bharti said on Tuesday while congratulating the team that carried out the action was taken under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The team seized 187.97 kg of mephedrone worth Rs 381.96 crore from the factory. Earlier, in the same investigation, 4 kg of the drug valued at Rs 8.04 crore had been recovered from Kaman village, Vasai. Ongole: District Superintendent of Police AR Damodar organised the weekly Public Grievance Redressal Programme (PGRS) at the district police office here on Monday to address citizen complaints. During the programme, SP Damodar and the police officers listened to complainants who arrived from various parts of the district. They engaged in face-to-face discussions with petitioners, understanding the background of their complaints, and assured them of a swift resolution within legal parameters. The SP instructed the concerned police station officers to conduct immediate investigations in accordance with the law and ensure speedy justice for the affected parties. The program received complaints regarding family disputes, harassment by husbands and in-laws, cheating, job fraud, land disputes, and other issues. Notable cases included a complaint from a Darsi mandal resident who was defrauded of Rs 1.80 lakh by someone from Duvvuru mandal, Kadapa district, who promised to sell a used tractor but later filed a false complaint against the victim. Another complainant from Giddaluru reported being cheated of Rs 5.50 lakh by a person who falsely promised municipal employment and housing for his son, subsequently threatening the victim when asked to return the money. The programme was attended by Women Police Station DSP Ramana Kumar, SC/ST Cell Inspector Durga Prasad, DTC Inspector Shamimulla, Traffic Inspector Pandu Rangarao, PGRS SI Janardan Rao, and other staff members.

Mumbai Police have registered a case against a security manager for allegedly stealing 261 IPL team jerseys worth Rs 6.52 lakh from the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) official merchandise store at Wankhede Stadium. The accused, Farooq Aslam Khan (46), a resident of Mira Road East, reportedly entered the store without authorisation on June 13. The theft came to light during a recent audit revealing missing stock, after which BCCI officials reviewed CCTV footage and spotted the security guard carrying a cardboard box, according to reports. Subsequently, the complaint was filed on July 17 by Hemang Bharat Kumar Amin (44), a BCCI employee based in Mahim. Amin, who works at the BCCI office located within the stadium premises, alleged that Khan took jerseys belonging to multiple IPL franchises, including Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and others. Marine Drive Police have filed an FIR under Section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and launched an investigation.
