Porsche SE says it is not considering sale of Volkswagen shares

Reuters16-03-2025

FRANKFURT, March 16 (Reuters) - Porsche SE (PSHG_p.DE), opens new tab, Volkswagen's biggest shareholder, is not considering selling voting shares in Europe's largest carmaker, the holding firm said on Sunday following a newspaper report that it was weighing such a move.
German tabloid Bild, citing people familiar with the matter, said the Porsche and Piech families that jointly control Porsche SE were considering divesting shares in Volkswagen to free up capital for other investments.

Bild's report said possible scenarios include reducing the stake in Volkswagen's ordinary shares (VOWG.DE), opens new tab to 45%-50%, from 53.3% at present. According to Reuters calculations, that would raise 1.07 billion to 2.69 billion euros ($1.16 billion-$2.93 billion) at current prices.
"At Porsche SE there are currently no concrete considerations, nor were there in the course of 2024, to divest VW shares," the holding firm said in a statement, adding that any plans to sell VW shares would have to be reported in its accounts.
"There have also been no discussions with investors regarding the sale of VW shares. Porsche SE is committed to its role as a long-term anchor shareholder of Volkswagen AG and is convinced of the Volkswagen Group's potential for increasing value."
Volkswagen declined to comment.
Porsche SE owns 31.9% of Volkswagen's equity and 53.3% of its voting rights, and holds a blocking minority in the untraded voting shares in Porsche AG (P911_p.DE), opens new tab, the luxury sportscar maker that was listed in 2022.
Volkswagen and Porsche form Porsche SE's so-called core investments, and the holding firm last year said that in the long-term it would not rule out "a possible reallocation" between the two as well as its smaller portfolio investments.
Porsche SE earlier this month disclosed substantial impairments on its two biggest holdings, 19.9 billion euros on Volkswagen and 3.4 billion euros on Porsche AG.

Aldi's Scottish gin under £20 named 'best in the world' at awards ceremony

The Scottish-made gin wowed a panel of expert judges with its "elegant" and "classic" flavour profile. Aldi's Còmhla Scottish Gin has been something of a trailblazer. Since its launch a couple of years ago, it has racked up multiple awards and glowing praise. And now it has another win under its belt, as the budget-friendly tipple has just taking home the coveted title as the World's Best Classic Gin at the prestigious World Gin Awards 2025. ‌ The acclaimed awards ceremony recognises the very best of the best across a range of lucrative brands, with the German discounter's gin beating out tough competition from over 20 countries including USA, Germany and China. ‌ Retailing at a humble £19.99 for a 70cl bottle, the Còmhla Scottish Gin ensures that gin lovers and shoppers will be able to bag premium quality at an affordable price. After a rigorous blind tasting of hundreds of entries across the globe, Aldi's Scottish-made London dry gin managed to wow the expert judging panel with its "elegant" and "classic" flavour profile. The World Gin Awards' description for Aldi's win read: "This gin presents a shy yet clean nose with a hint of dusty elegance and a subtle woody note reminiscent of moss. On the palate, it showcases a classic blend of juniper, coriander, and citrus, accompanied by chilli heat and slight bitterness. While the flavours are complex, they lack full integration, leading to a balanced yet somewhat short and dry finish." Aldi's Còmhla is a classic London dry gin that is crafted in small batches, boasting a well-balanced blend of notes including juniper, coriander and citrus, rounded off with a hint of bitterness. ‌ Despite only being launched in 2023, it has already been the subject of significant praise from experts, scooping prizes for its quality and flavour profile and multiple prestigious ceremonies. The Scottish-made gin previously bagged the coveted 'Gold' award in the 'premium' Gin Masters category of the 2024 Spirits Business Awards, a ceremony championed by leading spirits specialists. ‌ Before it managed to nab the most recent title as "the best in the world", it was previously named "the best in the country" at the 2025 World Drink Awards. Graham Nicolson, Group Buying Director at Aldi Scotland, said: "We have had an incredible response for Còmhla both from our loyal customers and the wider drinks industry. To be named the Best Classic Gin in the world is the ultimate honour. "Scotland may be small, but we consistently punch above our weight on the world food and drink stage. To be able to compete at such as high standard and to win, is testament to the craftsmanship and skill of our homegrown suppliers, and to the strength of the longstanding partnerships we have formed with them." ‌ Aldi's Còmhla Scottish Gin joins a cabinet of award-winning tipples that can be purchased from Aldi, as the supermarket's Haysmith's Seville Orange & Persian Lime Gin was also voted 'Best in the County' at the same gin awards ceremony in 2024. Costing just £14.99 for a 70cl, this trendy, citrus-based drink isn't just an award-winner, but it is also 46 percent cheaper than Tanqueray's popular Flor De Sevilla Orange which it has been compared to. Aldi's best in the world Còmhla Scottish Gin(70cl) retails at £19.99 and can be bought in all 109 stores across Scotland.

Leroy Sane's staggering salary demands sheds light on Arsenal transfer failure

Germany star Leroy Sane was linked with a free transfer to Arsenal earlier in the transfer window but will instead earn an eye-watering sum at new club Galatasaray The staggering wages Galatasaray are paying Leroy Sane have come to light. Arsenal had been linked with a move to bring the Germany international back to the Premier League, but instead he is off to Istanbul on a three-year deal. Gunners manager Mikel Arteta worked with Sane at previous club Manchester City before he left to join Bayern Munich in 2020. Any suggestions that might give Arsenal an advantage were soon put to bed, though, and Galatasaray's spending power may well be a factor. ‌ According to a club announcement, Sane will take home a huge £10.2million per season after tax - £7.65m basic and a £2.55m net loyalty bonus each year. The Mail reports that the same post-tax amount in England would be the equivalent of £410,000 per week. ‌ Such a sum would make him far and away Arsenal's highest earner, and the second highest-paid player in the Premier League behind Erling Haaland. Even Mohamed Salah, who signed a bumper new Liverpool deal in April, isn't thought to make that much. Sane had been named in Bayern Munich's squad for the Club World Cup, with a view to featuring in the competition. However, he left to undergo a medical in Istanbul on Thursday before completing the switch. Sane has spoken of the impact of fellow Germany international Kerem Demirbay in convincing him to move to Istanbul. He is the third new arrival this summer, with Ismail Jakobs and Przemyslaw Frankowski both completing permanent moves after spending time at the club on loan last term. 'It is a great honor for me to be here and to sign here. I would like to thank the club for giving me this opportunity," Sane said upon his unveiling. "I have come to the biggest club in Türkiye. I can't wait to give everything I have for this club and achieve success in this team. I can't wait to meet with the fans.' He continued: "I spoke to Kerem and he was incredibly happy that I was coming here. He told me that I would be coming to a great club, great people, great fans and a great country. He told me how happy he was and how happy I would be too. I can't wait to meet him as soon as possible." ‌ Sane will take the number 10 shirt previously worn by Belgium star Dries Mertens. 'Dries Mertens was a great player, a very important player. I want to achieve those successes with his number. I want to bring luck to Galatasaray with this number," the German said. "Frankly, I am aware of the previous images, I know all of them. I have been following them on social media. I was still very surprised. When you stand there and experience that, you feel very different emotions. I thank them very much. It was a truly extraordinary feeling. Therefore, my biggest wish is to get on the field as soon as possible and achieve success with the fans." Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Upcoming VW Golf GTI Edition 50 Crushes Golf R's Nurburgring Time

New Performance Pack Unlocks The Best Of The GTI Volkswagen has proved yet again that it's one of the hot hatch authorities, with its new Golf GTI Edition 50 setting a new record for production VWs around the Nurburgring. Referred to as a 'near-production test vehicle' by VW, this special GTI set a time of seven minutes and 46.13 seconds. That surpasses the time of seven minutes and 47.31 seconds set by the Golf R 20th Anniversary edition, a time achieved in 2022. GTI's Time Impressive For A Front-Wheel-Drive Hatch Unlike the all-wheel-drive Golf R, the GTI sends power to the front wheels only, yet it's always remained fun to drive despite its FWD setup. The record-breaking time was set across the 12.9-mile route of the course, and an even quicker time of seven minutes and 41.27 seconds was achieved over the slightly shorter 12.8-mile stretch. The GTI 50 was not quite able to dethrone the Honda Civic Type R, which remains the FWD hot hatch king. The hottest Civic completed the 12.9-mile lap in a time of seven minutes and 44.88 seconds. Although we don't know if this GTI improves upon the normal GTi's 241 horsepower, it's highly unlikely to match the Type R's 315 hp, which is more Golf R territory. Still, the GTI 50 gets close, thanks to an optional Performance package with lightweight 19-inch semi-slick Potenza Race tires from Bridgestone. These are wrapped around lightweight forged wheels, which lower unsprung and rotating masses. A performance-tuned chassis is also part of this package, which was equipped to the GTI that completed this latest effort at the Green Hell. Racing Driver Raves About GTi's Precision Benny Leuchter was behind the wheel of the GTI Edition 50 for this run, and was left blown away by the car. He was a good choice for the job, having driven the Golf GTI Clubsport S for the brand's first lap record nearly a decade ago. He did the same in the Golf R 20 Years in 2022. 'The entire setup of the Golf GTI Edition 50 means you can drive the ideal line of the Nordschleife with high precision,' said Leuchter. 'If you really want to be fast on the track known as the 'Green Hell', the car also has to compensate for the typical bumps in the ground and reach very high cornering speeds. This is exactly what the Golf GTI Edition 50 achieves in perfection. The aplomb with which it masters the peculiarities of the legendary Nordschleife is cool: the GTI is instantly stable over the entire 20.8 kilometers.' A full reveal of the record-breaking GTI Edition 50 is set for June 20. About the Author Karl Furlong View Profile
