SAI felicitates medal-winning archers Jadhav and Bhardwaj

World University Games champion archer Sahil Jadhav said coach Rahul Banerjee's pep talk helped him clinch the gold medal in the keenly-contested compound men's individual final in Essen, Germany, recently. On his maiden international trip, Jadhav, who has not won an individual medal at the National level, was delighted after defeating his compatriot Kushal Dalal in the semifinals. 'I was happy to have secured an individual medal. But Rahul bhaiya said, 'If you want to be a champion, you should not nurture such a mindset.' His words inspired me for the final,' said Jadhav, who pipped Great Britain's Ajay Scott 149-148 in the title clash, at a felicitation function organised by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) regional centre here on Friday. 'I have gone through so many trials and competitions without any success. When I got the opportunity, I wanted to make it count.' Coming from a humble background in Satara district, Maharashtra, the 24-year-old, who was trained by Pravin Sawant before being coached by SAI's Haresh Kumar, has overcome a phase of frustration to dream big. 'I want to go step-by-step, but the ultimate goal is the Olympics,' said Jadhav. Hailing from East Singhbhum, Jharkhand, 22-year-old recurve archer Shrey Bhardwaj, who claimed gold medals in outdoor, 3D and field archery at the World Police and Fire Games (WPFG) in Birmingham, USA, said the SAI centre's support played a crucial role in his success. 'I trained during the day and in the evenings and put rocks on the ground to prepare for different formats of the WPFG,' said Bhardwaj, proving that switching from cricket to archery was the correct decision for him. SAI National Centre of Excellence (NCOE) Regional Director-in-charge Amar Jyoti lauded the archers for carrying forward the legacy of the centre.

CAD Pulgaon jawans shine at World Police and Fire Games in USA

1 2 Nagpur: Showcasing exceptional skill and dedication, a 15-member team from Central Ammunition Depot (CAD) Pulgaon and Army Ordnance Corps (AOC), brought laurels to India by winning 15 medals — 7 gold, 2 silver, and 6 bronze — at the 2025 World Police and Fire Games held in Birmingham, Alabama, USA. The Indian contingent included 47 members, including 10 from CAD Pulagon, 5 from AOC and rest from various state and central fire services. The World Police and Fire Games 2025, held from June 27 to July 6, featured over 8,000 athletes from 70+ countries, competing in 60 sports across 45 venues. The Pulgaon team, comprising only fire services staff, stood out for their stellar performance, built on rigorous training and preparation. The victorious CAD members (in Fire Games) were Mohan Kawre (1 gold, 2 silver), MD Hussain, (1 gold, 1 bronze), Yogpal (1 gold, 1 bronze), Ravinder Kumar (1 gold, 1 bronze), Ranjit, (1 gold, 1 bronze), Rahul Yadav (1 gold, 1 bronze) and Gaurav (1 gold, 1 bronze). Sachin Karmore, Harbhan Singh and Amandeep too were part of the team. Before departing on June 24, the team underwent an intensive 20-day training camp, supported by ASI Pune, Rajputana Rifles Centre, Delhi, and CAD facilities. Their earlier triumph at the 3rd National Fire Games, where they emerged champions, had already marked them as strong contenders. Their international feat received high praise. DGOS Lt Gen Suresh Tandy felicitated them at Army HQ on July 11, while Union home minister Amit Shah honoured the athletes on July 18, applauding their contribution to national pride. On July 21, the team received a hero's welcome in Pulgaon. A victory procession was held from the railway station to CAD, with the athletes riding a decorated chariot and showered with garlands. The team credited their success to the relentless guidance of CAD Pulgaon Commandant, senior athletic mentors, and fire services trainers. Their achievement marks a golden chapter in the history of AOC's fire brigade, inspiring others in the defence and fire services community.
