Vishnu Manchu's Kannappa takes lead over Kajol's Maa in morning shows

Vishnu Manchu's mythological action film 'Kannappa' has taken an early lead at the Indian box office, earning ₹1.36 crore in morning shows. Kajol's mythological horror film 'Maa' opened with ₹31 lakh. 'Kannappa' is attracting audiences with its grand scale and star power, including Prabhas and Mohanlal. 'Maa,' targeting horror fans, hopes for evening show growth. It's a clash of genres and star power at the box office today, as two contrasting films — Vishnu Manchu's mythological action epic Kannappa and Kajol 's mythological horror Maa — hit theatres across India. And going by the initial figures, Kannappa has taken a clear lead in the morning shows. Exclusive | Kajol CANDID On Horror Fears and Son Yug's Voice Debut In 'Karate Kids: Legends' Early box office data shared by Sacnilk reveals that Kannappa has managed to pull in Rs 1.36 crore from it's morning shows, while Maa opened with a comparatively modest Rs 31 lakh in the same time. The significant difference in collections highlights how Kannappa has capitalized on its mass appeal, visual scale, and genre advantage to draw in audiences, particularly in the South Indian circuits along with the presence of names like Prabhas , Mohanlal , Kajal Agawal and Akshay Kumar . . Directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh, Kannappa is a large-scale retelling of the legendary Shaivite devotee, with Vishnu Manchu leading the charge. The film's larger-than-life portrayal, mythological themes, and slick production have helped it find strong traction among single-screen audiences and in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. On the other hand, Maa, featuring Kajol in a poignant mother-centric role, has targeted horror genre fanatics. Its intimate narrative, emotional depth, and performance-driven storytelling are geared more toward multiplex viewers and urban family audiences. However, in terms of sheer footfalls, it appears that Maa is facing an uphill battle on day one but given the genre of the film one would expect a major push with evening and night has been directed by Vishal Furia and backed by Ajay Devgn with pivotal roles played by Ronit Bose Roy , Indraneil Sengupta and Kherin Sharma While Kannappa has clearly won the first round in morning shows, the day is yet to end and the word of mouth for both films will kick in from afternoon onwards.. For now, it's Kannappa that has emerged as the early front-runner in this cinematic face-off.

Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par Inches Closer To Rs 90 Crore-Mark In 7 Days

Last Updated: The film's success came as a big relief for Aamir, especially after the failure of his last two projects, Thugs of Hindostan and Laal Singh Chaddha. Aamir Khan and Genelia D'Souza's comedy-drama Sitaare Zameen Par continues its strong performance at the box office. Directed by RS Prasanna, the film was released on June 20 and has garnered positive reviews from both critics and audiences. According to the film collected Rs 6.29 crore on Thursday, pushing its total first-week domestic nett collection to Rs 88.69 crore. With this pace, the film is expected to cross the Rs 100 crore milestone by its second Saturday. The performance is particularly notable considering its opening day collection was Rs 10.50 crore. The steady growth and strong word of mouth have helped Sitaare Zameen Par maintain momentum through the week. As it enters its second week, the film is set to face stiff competition at the box office. New releases include Kajol's horror-thriller Maa, Brad Pitt's sports drama F1: The Movie, and the highly anticipated mythological epic Kannappa, starring Vishnu Manchu, Prabhas, and Akshay Kumar. Backed by Aamir Khan Productions, the film is an official Hindi remake of the 2019 Spanish film Champions and is presented as a spiritual successor to the 2007 hit Taare Zameen Par. Sitaare Zameen Par narrates the story of Gulshan (Aamir Khan), a disgraced basketball coach who is assigned to teach a group of neurodivergent people as part of his community service following a DUI. Gulshan, who was initially bitter and prejudiced, transforms as he connects with his students and learns to value their various viewpoints and abilities. Recently, during a conversation with the paparazzi, Aamir expressed his happiness over the success of Sitaare Zameen Par and said, 'I am very happy and grateful. More than me, those ten 'sitaare' are excited as this is their film and it is a super hit. We are very grateful." The film's success came as a big relief for Aamir, especially after the failure of his last two projects, Thugs of Hindostan and Laal Singh Chaddha. Up next, the actor will be making a cameo appearance in Rajinikanth's highly anticipated, Coolie. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the film will be hitting the big screens on August 14. (Picture Courtesy: Facebook) Actor Joju George recently made serious allegations against the makers of 'Churuli'. The actor accused them of a breach of trust after they allegedly released an expletive-filled version of the film on an OTT platform—contrary to what he had originally been promised. "They told me one thing and did another" In a conversation with On Manorama, Joju shared," The filmmakers had assured him that the version containing profane language would only be screened at select film festivals. For public release, he claims, a censored version was to be used, and he even dubbed a separate audio track for it. However, Joju says the version now streaming online is the uncut, profanity-laden one, which was sold to the OTT platform for a substantial amount. "They told me one thing and did another," he said, expressing disappointment and emotional distress. The actor stated that it wasn't just about his professional image but also the impact it had on his personal life. 'My daughter faced bullying because of those scenes,' he shared, adding that this was the main reason he chose to speak up. Joju clarified that he remains an admirer of Lijo's work and would not have gone public with his grievances if it hadn't personally affected his family.
