Nawaz Sharif IT City project: CM reviews progress
This was stated in a special meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif here today, to review the progress on the Nawaz Sharif IT City project.
The Chief Minister emphasized the need for faster, more effective, and essential steps to ensure the timely establishment and operationalization of the Nawaz Sharif IT City.
During the meeting Central Business District CEO Imran Amin said that, 23 major IT companies are ready to set up operations within the Silicon Block of the IT City.
The Nawaz Sharif IT City became the first institution in Punjab being approved by the Special Technology Zones Authority (STZA) which gave a formal approval for the establishment of NSIT Silicon Block.
It was further apprised in the meeting, world's renowned international IT groups have expressed their keen interest in the Nawaz Sharif IT City project. As many as 23 well known IT companies are willing to establish their institutions in the Nawaz Sharif IT City Silicon Block. Plots have also been acquired for the establishment of institutions or offices in this regard. It was further informed that world's renowned Imperial College of London will establish a medical college and hospital in collaboration with Novecare.
NetCol will establish Pakistan's first comprehensive IT university in the Nawaz Sharif IT City. Roots Group will enter into a joint venture with the British University of Warwick.
Similarly, renowned companies namely DataFort and Mari-Tech will also jointly build Tier 3 and Tier 4 data centres. Data Rocks has expressed their interest in establishing Punjab's first FTA-approved lab. CEO CBD Imran Amin gave a detailed briefing on the progress being made on the projects.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif stressed the need for taking more effective, swift and necessary steps for the establishment of Nawaz Sharif IT City project.

Remote areas of Punjab: CM directs installation of water filtration plants
LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif presided over a special meeting in which progress being made on clean water, water filtration plant and other development projects were reviewed. The Chief Minister was given a detailed briefing about the Model Village project. The meeting also reviewed progress being made on Lahore Development project and Punjab Development project. On this occasion, the proposal to install water filtration plants in the remote areas was also reviewed. The Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has assigned a deadline of 30th June, 2026 regarding the installation of water filtration plants. She emphasized on the early completion of the construction and repair of streets in the Lahore Development Project. Expressing her indignation over delay in the completion of some projects, the CM also reviewed 122 beautification projects in every city of Punjab. 51 beautification projects will be completed in Lahore division, 64 in Rawalpindi, 37 in Faisalabad, 75 in Multan. 45 in Sargodha, 64 in Gujranwala, 51 in DG Khan, 61 in Bahawalpur, 53 in Gujrat and 49 in Sahiwal. The Chief Minister directed to ensure timely completion of all beautification projects. She underscored those public complaints regarding non-availability of drinking water will be redressed on a priority basis. She directed to formulate a regular system for the construction, repair and maintenance of water filtration plants. CCP upholds order against GCC Medical Centres
ISLAMABAD: The Competition Appellate Tribunal (CAT) has upheld the Competition Commission of Pakistan's (CCP) order against 20 medical centers and laboratories and their five associations for collusive price fixing, territorial allocation of customers, and other anti-competitive practices in mandatory pre-departure medical examinations for Pakistani workers bound for Gulf countries. The Tribunal upheld CCP's findings of competition law violations but reduced the penalties from PKR 20 million per medical center and PKR 10 million per Gulf Approved Medical Centres Administrative Offices (GAMCAs) to PKR 2 million per center and PKR 1 million per GAMCA. The case concerns a captive market of low-income Pakistani labourers — many securing manual jobs in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, and Kuwait — who must undergo medical tests at GCC-approved centers before departure. The CCP's inquiry found that GAMCAs in five regions — Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Lahore, Peshawar, Karachi, and Multan — allocated customers on a rotational basis. This eliminated competition on price and service quality. Workers were bound to a specific center, charged a uniform fee, and in some cases subjected to unnecessary repeat tests for additional payments. The CCP initiated its inquiry on a complaint by the Pakistan Overseas Employment Promoters Association (POEPA). The CCP's investigation concluded that fee fixation, territorial division, and equal allocation of customers by GAMCAs violated Sections 4 of the Competition Act, 2010. Dr. Kabir Sidhu, Chairman CCP, warned business associations against facilitating collusive practices, price fixing, or allocation of business quotas. He stressed that such platforms should be used to promote sectoral growth, enhancing competition, and to benefit consumers. LAHORE: Punjab Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman stated that this year's Independence Day holds extraordinary significance, as we celebrate the triumph of Operation Bunyan-al-Marsus, a decisive victory over India that has reshaped Pakistan's global image. 'This success is a testament to our ability to defend our sovereignty with unwavering resolve,' he remarked during the Independence Day celebrations at Hazoori Bagh on Thursday where he represented Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif at the main event. The gathering was distinguished, featuring diplomats from Turkey, China, Iran, and the United States, as well as parliamentarians, provincial ministers, senior government officials, civil society representatives, and enthusiastic students from various institutions. The day began with the Minister visiting Mazar-e-Quaid, where he laid a floral wreath, offered Fateha, and prayed for the country's unity, security, peace, and prosperity. Following this, he hoisted the national flag at the iconic Alamgiri Gate and inscribed his heartfelt reflections in the dignitaries' guest book.
