One killed, four others injured as two MPVs collide head on
IPOH: One person died and four others were seriously injured in a head on collision involving two multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) at Kilometer 1.8 Gerik-Kupang-Gerik, today.
Acting Gerik District Police Chief DSP Muhammad Firdaus Abdullah said his department received information regarding the incident at about 11:45 am.
He said the accident occurred after a Nissan Grand Livina MPV, driven by a 49-year-old man carrying a 56-year-old woman and two male passengers aged 14 and 21, travelling from Kupang towards Gerik, lost control and entered the opposite lane.
'The vehicle then collided with a Perodua Alza MPV driven by a 32-year-old man with his 32-year-old wife and their two children, aged 3 and 5 respectively.
'The driver of the Nissan Grand Livina was found to be seriously injured and was confirmed dead at the Gerik Hospital, while the woman in the same car suffered broken ribs and was referred to the Taiping Hospital. The two other men in that vehicle did not suffer any injuries,' he said in a statement today.
Muhammad Firdaus said the driver of the Perodua Alza MPV was also seriously injured and is being treated at the Taiping Hospital, while his two children sustained injuries to their eyes and head and are being treated at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, Ipoh.
'The Perodua Alza driver's wife did not suffer any injuries, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,' he said.

Man injured after being rammed by car at burger stall
KUALA LUMPUR: A 39-year-old man was injured when a car crashed into him while he eating at a burger stall on Sunday evening. The incident, which occurred at 7pm in Section 17, Shah Alam, involved a Proton Wira driven by a 55-year-old man. Foreigners who rammed police roadblock held

TAWAU: Five foreigners who rammed a police roadblock while attempting to flee at the Megah Industrial Zone at 8pm were arrested after a 45km high-speed chase last Wednesday. District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the suspects, aged between 29 and 43, included the male driver, two male passengers, and two female passengers. 'The vehicle was ordered to stop by a team from the Police Patrol Car Unit (MPV) and Motorcycle Patrol Unit (URB), who were conducting a roadblock operation. 'However, the driver defied police instructions and attempted to escape by crashing through the checkpoint, prompting our officers to pursue them,' he said. The chase continued through several main roads including Jalan Timur, Kem Pengakap Tiku, Jalan Bunga Raya, Jalan Chong Thien Vun, and Jalan Apas, before it was eventually stopped at Batu 12, Jalan Apas. Upon inspection, police found none of the occupants, including the driver, could produce any identification. The driver did not possess a valid driving licence or road tax. The case is being investigated under Section 26(2) of the Police Act 1967 for fleeing a police checkpoint and Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of their duties. Investigations are also being carried out under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for unlawful entry and stay in the country without valid identification or travel documents. The driver is also being investigated under Section 26 and Section 23 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving without a valid licence and road tax. ACP Jasmin said none of the police personnel were injured and that the authorities view such incidents very seriously. 'We urge the public to fully cooperate with the police, especially during roadblocks,' he said. Biker, 25, killed in four-vehicle crash near Tangkak
TANGKAK: A 25-year-old man was killed in a four-vehicle crash at KM12, Lebuh AMJ Kesang, Sungai Mati, near here on Monday (June 2). Tangkak police chief Supt Roslan Mohd Talib said police received a report of the accident at about 2.12am. "Initial investigations found that the accident occurred when a motorcyclist, who was on his way from Melaka to Muar, is believed to have lost control of his machine before crashing into the rear of a pick-up truck parked on the road shoulder. "The motorcyclist fell and was then hit by a sedan car coming from behind. At the same time, a sports utility vehicle (SUV), also coming from the same direction, crashed into the victim's motorcycle that was on the road," he said in a statement Monday. The victim died at the scene and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving. Those with information regarding the incident have been urged to contact investigating officer Insp Khairul Azmi Ibrahim at 011-12445836.
