Saplings to be geo-tagged, drones to track growth: Haryana CM Saini
He highlighted the success of the first phase of the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign, which saw 1.87 crore saplings planted against a target of 1.60 crore. Since October 2014, approximately 18 crore saplings have been planted across the state, he said.
To ensure effective implementation and increase forest cover, Saini announced that all plantations initiated by the forest department would be geo-tagged and regularly monitored using drones for up to five years. The chief minister also released two booklets on herbal vatika and nature trails, aimed at promoting eco-tourism in Morni.
He stressed that environmental conservation is a collective responsibility, urging individuals to nurture saplings like their own children for at least five years. He also mentioned the 'Pranavayu Devta Pension Scheme', which provides ₹3,000 annually for the care of trees over 75 years old. So far, ₹1 crore has been deposited into the accounts of guardians of 3,800 trees under this scheme. Additionally, he spoke about the Green Aravalli Action Plan in South Haryana—a joint initiative with the central government—to be implemented across four states.
Environment, forest, and wildlife minister Rao Narbir Singh emphasised that Van Mahotsav should be a people's movement, not just a ceremonial event.
Sanitation workers are sentinels of the environment: CM
The chief minister also lauded the invaluable contribution of sanitation workers in realising the dream of 'Swachh Haryana', describing them as the 'unsung heroes' behind the state's improved standards of cleanliness. Calling them the silent force and pillars behind Haryana's cleaner streets and healthier communities, he said the cleanliness that graces every street and neighbourhood in the state carries the invisible but tireless imprint of the sanitation workers.
He was addressing a gathering of safai karmcharis (sanitation workers) at his official residence, Sant Kabir Kutir.
During the event, the workers expressed their gratitude to the chief minister for the state government's decision to raise their monthly wages by ₹2,100, a move announced on the occasion of Sant Kabir Jayanti held recently, an official statement said.

SCCL continues its green drive in coal belt
Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) Chairman and Managing Director N. Balram on Monday planted 204 saplings of fruit bearing tree species in Kothagudem bungalows area in Kothagudem, taking the total number of saplings individually planted by him in the State's coal belt to 19,775. Demonstrating his untiring zeal for increasing green cover in the coal belt, Mr. Balram led the sapling planting drive in the coal town as part of the ongoing 'Van Mahotsav' programme. According to SCCL sources, the State-owned coal mining company distributed lakhs of saplings of fruit bearing trees among people living in the surrounding villages in the coal belt. The SCCL has so far planted 5.47 crore saplings of various tree species on 15,231 hectares and developed mini-forests in various parts of the coal belt spanning across six districts in the State.

58K appear for second day of HSSC CET exam in Chandigarh, Panchkula
Over 58,000 aspirants appeared at examination centres across Chandigarh and Panchkula on the second and last day of Haryana Staff Selection Commission's (HSSC) Common Eligibility Test (CET). The exam conducted for the Group C posts, expected to see nearly 13.7 lakh candidates appear across Haryana and Chandigarh in total over two days. On Sunday, the exam was conducted in two shifts, from 10 am to 11.45 am and 3pm to 4.45 pm. The Haryana government provided free home-to-centre transportation for 53 differently-abled candidates in Panchkula district. (HT Photo) Out of 40,000 registered aspirants for 153 centres in Chandigarh on Day 2, approximately 37,500 appeared for the exam. In Panchkula, the second day of CET had approximately 21,000 candidates appearing across all 44 examination centres. According to the administration, forty-six buses ferried Panchkula candidates to Yamunanagar, while 256 buses brought examinees from Karnal and Kaithal districts to Panchkula. Deputy commissioner Monika Gupta detailed the extensive bus operations, ensuring timely arrivals and departures across shifts and locations. Adding to these efforts, the Haryana government provided free home-to-centre transportation for 53 differently-abled candidates in Panchkula district. With centres located in Chandigarh, the district administration arranged door-to-door pick-up and drop-off services. Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini on X mentioned about successfully conducting the exam all over.

CM launches drive to plant 50cr trees in 5 years
Jhunjhunu/Jaipur: Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma Sunday launched a massive statewide green drive, declaring the goal to plant 50 crore trees in five years under the Mission Hariyalo Rajasthan. Addressing a large public gathering at the district-level Van Mahotsav held at Mandawara village in Sikar, the chief minister reiterated his govt's commitment to turning Rajasthan into a greener and more prosperous state. The campaign takes inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam', launched last year on World Environment Day, and is now gaining momentum across the state. Sharma said that 10 crore saplings will be planted this year alone through public participation. He added that a record 2.5 crore saplings will be planted in a single day on the occasion of Hariyali Teej. "Last year, we planted over seven crore saplings. PM Modi appreciated our efforts in his Mann Ki Baat. Our work was blessed by nature too, with rains filling dams across the state," said Sharma. These urban green spaces aim to improve air quality and provide natural havens in densely populated towns. To preserve biodiversity, the state is implementing the One District One Species program, promoting native flora. Under the Aravalli Green Development Project, ₹250 crore is being spent in 19 Aravalli districts to carry out soil works over 3,700 hectares, followed by plantation next year. Special efforts are also being made to green desert districts like Barmer and Jaisalmer. CM Sharma emphasized that the role of every citizen is vital in protecting the environment.
