Bengaluru ranks 14 in top 20 startup ecosystems: Report

Time of India20 hours ago

Bengaluru: Bengaluru is ranked 14th among the top 20 global ecosystems, an impressive improvement of seven positions from last year, according to the Startup Genome's Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2025.
Silicon Valley, New York City, and London secured the top three positions, followed by Tel Aviv in fourth place, with Boston and Beijing tied for fifth.
Startup Genome defines ecosystem value as the sum of valuations of funded startups, including unicorns, plus the post-money valuation of exits in the past two and a half years. Globally, the total value of exits decreased by 4%, and the number of exits decreased by 9% compared with 2023.
Across last year's top 40 ecosystems, the total count of large exits decreased by a troubling 31%—and for the aggregate of all ecosystems in our database, the decline was 40%.
In 2024, the ecosystem experienced a remarkable surge in billion-dollar exits. Food delivery giant Swiggy made its public debut with a $12 billion valuation, marking one of India's largest IPOs. Insurance innovator GoDigit followed with a $3.6 billion public listing, while digital health commercialisation firm Indegene reached a valuation of $1.3 billion.

Logistics leader Blackbuck, transforming India's freight industry, closed the year with a $1 billion IPO.
These milestones were not isolated events but reflected a deepening and maturing ecosystem, which saw its total value soar to $136 billion in 2024.
India, the report said, secured $38 billion in total VC funding between 2020 and 2024, underscoring investor confidence in its innovation pipeline. Even amid global headwinds, Bengaluru startups raised $268 million in seed funding in 2024 alone—a 26% increase from the previous year.
Deal activity remained healthy, growing by 4% year-over-year to hit 114. This reflects a robust early-stage pipeline supported by more than 1,500 venture capital firms, more than 2,200 corporate venture investors, and a flourishing community of 17,000 angel investors.
Bengaluru now ranks 5th among the Top 50 AI cities globally, and AI & big data have emerged as the most resilient and forward-moving sector, with increases in both deal volume and funding in recent years. "Bengaluru is building a platform where corporations, researchers, startups, and policymakers can co-create the future—not just for India, but for the world. Bengaluru's next chapter will be written in deep code, hard science, and global collaboration," said Ravi Narayan, president, Middle East & South Asia, Startup Genome.

Meta AI may have a ‘personal problem' and a very serious one, and it's a warning for users

Representative image The Meta AI app may have a "personal chat problem" that has the potential to escalate into a major privacy issue. Users of the AI assistant developed by Facebook's parent company have complained that its "Discover" feed is reportedly displaying user prompts publicly without them being aware of the same. This feature was introduced with the transition from the Meta View app to the Meta AI app in April. It allows others to see the types of prompts people are submitting to Meta's AI chatbot. However, a concerned user named Justine Moore took to the social media platform X (earlier Twitter) to note observing prompts in the public feed that suggest users may not know that their queries are being openly displayed. This raises significant privacy implications for users interacting with the Meta AI service. How Meta AI is leaking personal chats of users In the X post, Moore shared screenshots of personal chats that Meta AI is showing other users and wrote: 'Wild things are happening on Meta's AI app. The feed is almost entirely boomers who seem to have no idea their conversations with the chatbot are posted publicly. They get pretty personal (see second pic, which I anonymized).' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free Solitaire. No Ads Ever. You have to hit a 'share' button, but many users seem to think it's posting to a private journal. Resulting in things like this…a man trying to write a romantic poem for his gf. You can hear a 6 min audio clip, here's a transcribed excerpt:' 'Obsessed with this man who tries to use the app to find a woman with a 'big b**ty and nice r**k.' When it won't post on his behalf in local FB groups, he asks the bot to 'delete my number.' Instead, he (accidentally?) shares it publicly - I redacted,' Moore further added. As Moore suggests, users have been unintentionally exposing sensitive information on Meta AI. Users are advised to refrain from sharing prompts containing private medical and tax details, addresses, and intimate confessions (ranging from relationship doubts to personal dating inquiries) with the app as they seem to be appearing publicly. Skill-based credit courses by students for students in SNDT

Pune: SNDT College of Home Science has started one-credit courses by students for students on makeup, hairdressing, classical dance, and others to promote additional skills and to give them a platform to monetise these skills. Siddhi Kamble, a third-year student pursuing a bachelor's degree in nutrition and dietetics, is also a freelance professional makeup artist, hairdresser, and draper. In January 2025, she offered a 30-hour credit course on basic self-makeup, which was attended by 60 students. Kamble said, "These jobs are always in demand, and one can earn a decent amount. A saree or dupatta draping may sound ordinary, but it is a good source of income. Once I complete my bachelor's and master's, I will integrate my education and skills. Bridal or groom packages require people who can advise the bride or groom on what to eat, what to wear, makeup. It has good scope especially in this busy world." Siddhi Kawade, 19, a third-year undergraduate student of the interior space designing course, will offer a one-credit course to students next year. "By the time I applied, the credit courses were full. I was supposed to give a credit course in basic hairstyling. I learnt it as a hobby, but when people came to know about it, they approached me, and it became a side profession. While I plan to do a master's in interior design and work in that field, I will continue hairstyling as and when time permits. The flexibility such jobs offer makes it lucrative," Kawade added. Tanishka Kolapkar, 19, is pursuing an undergraduate course in human development from SNDT while pursuing a BA in Bharatnatyam course from Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth. Her credit course on the basics of Bharatnatyam is in the planning stage. "I completed six years of training in Bharatnatyam. My idea is to give girls in my college a glimpse of what it is to be aware of a cultural heritage of India. Many did not have an opportunity to learn as a child but this course will give them an idea and encourage them to pursue it," she said. Building Talent Single credit added to academic credit bank After the course, students can pursue a diploma in makeup or hairdressing and work professionally If not, once someone knows the basics, they can also build on that via online tutorials Centre for Holistic Education, Training and Novel Advancement is the platform at SNDT Women's University through which skill-based courses are offered quote SNDT has more than 250 such courses where students instead of being passive recipients, come forward as creators, trainers, and entrepreneurs.
