Alexander-Arnold opens up on mixed emotions after making Real Madrid debut
Trent Alexander-Arnold made his Real Madrid debut as they were held in their Club World Cup opener and admitted he was disappointed not to get a win in his first outing
Trent Alexander-Arnold confessed making his Real Madrid debut is "something every player dreams of" but their failure to win in the Club World Cup meant there was "some disappointment".
The former Liverpool right-back has long been linked with Los Blancos and made the move recently with his contract at Anfield expiring. He's now rubbing shoulders with pal Jude Bellingham as well as Vinicius Jnr and the Arsenal-linked Rodrygo.
They ran out for their opening game in FIFA's Club World Cup but underwhelmed as they were held by Saudi outfit Al-Hilal. New manager Xabi Alonso is still getting to grips with his squad but Real were firm favourites to down the Middle Eastern side.
Gonzalo Garcia's opener was cancelled out by a penalty from Ruben Neves as Dean Huijsen, formerly of Bournemouth, was another ex-Premier League star to make his debut for the Spanish giants.
Alexander-Arnold admits that he must deal an expectation that tips Real to win "every game you play in" and that clearly soured his first outing as he thanked his new employers and his team-mates for their early show of support after he made the switch.
He said: "Incredible day to have made my debut for Real Madrid. It's something almost every player dreams of so to be able to achieve it is huge for me. There's some disappointment not to have won the game but it's the mentality you need to have as a Real player is to want and expect to win every game you've played in.
"I've felt the support from the moment I signed the club. Absolutely sensational. The fan base is truly global all around the world and you feel it every day.
"I've been learning Spanish a couple of months. I want to adapt and give myself the best start possible. It's important to show the intent that I want to embrace the culture and adapt as best as possible. That was important for me to do so."
After a trophyless season last term Alonso, who replaced the iconic Carlo Ancelotti, maintains that the changes he's looking for won't happen overnight.
"I knew it would take time," he said. "There are things we have to change. We'll have to correct them, and we'll keep doing that. Everything takes time, we've had nine days, and some players have had just three training sessions. It's demanding, we're in a competition, but we want to learn, and what we want to do will take time."

FORMER Manchester United star Ander Herrera has been hit with a four-match ban after clashing with a security guard at the Club World Cup. Tempers flared just before half-time in Benfica's 2-2 draw with Boca Juniors. 4 4 4 And Boca star Herrera received a red card after trying to remonstrate with referee Cesar Arturo Ramos as he consulted the VAR monitor. A security guard intervened and held the midfielder back as he shouted at the ref. Ramos then walked over to Herrera and brandished a red card. Fifa have now slapped a four match ban on the Mexican, which means he will be banned until the semi-finals, should Boca make it that far. Injury could also rule out the 35-year-old after he was forced off in the 20th minute. The Argentinian giants have appealed the ban, and that of his team-mate Jorge Figal who was sent off late on for a reckless tackle in front of a group of Benfica players warming up. That threatened a brawl with tensions mounting after Benfica striker Andrea Belotti was red carded for a dangerous high boot on the back of Ayrton Costa's head. Boca have also appealed Figal's ban after he was hit with a four-match suspension. The club are hopeful of getting the ban reduced as Belotti has only received a two-match ban for his wild challenge. Ramos originally gave Belotti a yellow card but upgraded it after being called over to review by VAR.

Manchester City supporters have been told 'welcome to America' but locals after expressing shock at the price of food and drinks at the Club World Cup in Philadelphia. Pep Guardiola 's side played their opening match of the tournament on Wednesday, winning 2-0 against Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca. A total of 37,446 were at the Lincoln Financial Field for the match, with fans taking to social media to express their shock at price of food and drink at the match. The price list at the venue, normally home of NFL team the Philadelphia Eagles, was shared by supporters on social media. A can of premium beer was listed at $16.50 (£12.30), while domestic beer would set supporters back $14.50 (£10.81). Mixed drinks was the most expensive beverage on the menu at $18.50 (£13.79), with wine costing $15.50 (£11.55). Fans also expressed shock at the cost of non-alcoholic drinks, with an Aquafina bottle of water priced at $10 (£7.45), while bottled soda was marginally less at $9.50 (£7). Supporters seeking to buy snacks could purchase peanuts, which were priced at $8 (£6). A Man City fan attending the match commented 'nice and reasonable prices' amid the shock at the cost of the items. Another fan responded 'Then they ask for a tip on top'. Travelling supporters were met with sympathy from American fans, who suggested the prices were typical of the matchday experience. 'Trust me, we as Americans hate these prices too,' one fan wrote in response. 'Welcome to the US "entertainment" business,' another added. However, Man City fans were offered some solace as their next venue in the Club World Cup weighed into the discussion. The Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta responded by sharing their own price list, detailing the price of drinks. Large and regular premium beers will set Man City fans back $11 (£8.20) and $6 (£4.47) respectively at the venue, with domestic beer costing $9 (£6.71) and $5 (£3.73) depending on the size.
