Reverend Doctor Kevin Cahill was a kind and gentle man who battled his illness with patience
Reverend Cahill was of Avenue Court, Gorey, and late of Enniscorthy. He was the beloved son of the late Nancy and Kevin, brother of Tom, Gerard, Mary and the late John.
Reverend Cahill's funeral mass took place on Monday, April 28 at St. Michael's Church Gorey, followed by burial in St. Mary's Cemetery Enniscorthy.
Reverend Cahill retired three and a half years ago due to his long battle with cancer which he battled with patience and resignation. He endured a long career in the priesthood which he offered his life generously to.
Reverend Cahill began studying for the priesthood in Maynooth in 1975. In the years after that, he served in many parishes across Wexford such as Gorey, Ferns and Rathangan. In 1993, he moved to Rome to study and obtain a doctorate in Canon Law. He had a great appreciation of the Italian culture and their way of life.
It was said at his funeral that he would have loved watching the footage of the ceremonies which took place in honour of Pope Francis' passing recently. Reverend Cahill used his Law skills while working in the Marriage Tribunal in the Dublin Diocesan Offices and was also a dedicated chaplain to a number of schools.
Tributes poured in after his death with one mourner writing: 'Condolences to the Cahill family on the passing of Fr Kevin , a kind and gentle servant of the Lord . The conservations were varied and interesting , he loved the life of the church and was a proud son of Enniscorthy .May he rest in peace in the hands of our blessed mother Mary.'
Another mourner wrote: 'He was very thoughtful, kind and spiritual - a thorough gentleman inside and out. May his gentle soul rest in eternal peace after a life well lived.'
Another tribute read: 'I remember him from our childhood days in Gorey and later reunited with him as Father Kevin in Ballyfad as our Curate. May his gentle soul rest in peace.'
He will be deeply regretted by his brothers, sister, sisters-in-law Mary, Breda and Caroline, nephews, nieces, grand-nephews, grand-nieces, Bishop Ger, Bishop Eamon Walsh, fellow Priests, parishioners, extended family, relatives and friends. Reverend Cahill's long friendship with Father Jim Nolan was acknowledged during the funeral mass.

Coco Gauff gets past Madison Keys to reach French Open semi-finals
A scruffy match featuring a combined 101 unforced errors and 14 breaks of serve ended 6-7 (6) 6-4 6-1 in favour of the world number two. Gauff had previously not dropped a set as she quietly made her way through the friendlier side of the draw. But in a nervy first set on both sides of the net, Gauff overturned a 4-1 deficit to force a set point at 5-4, only to be taken to a tie-break which Keys won. Gauff went 4-1 up in the second but found herself pegged back, before a break and a hold took the match into a decider. The confidence had drained from Australian Open champion Keys while Gauff finally located her serve, having coughed up nine double faults over the first two sets. A pass down the line brought up three match points and the 21-year-old roared with delight when Keys went long, giving her the victory in two hours and 11 minutes. "Maddie was playing well, she's hitting the ball so fast and so low so I was just trying to fight for each point," said Gauff, the runner-up at Roland Garros in 2022. "I knew I had to be able to run today and as soon as the ball came short, punish her for it. "It means a lot, getting through this tough match. I'm very happy to get through and be in the semi-finals again. I'll savour this one today and be ready for tomorrow's match." Last night, defending French Open champion Carlos Alcaraz drew inspiration from his main rival and world number one Jannik Sinner to race past Tommy Paul in 94 minutes and reach the Roland Garros semi-finals. Alcaraz gave a masterclass in attacking tennis to win the opening two sets in under an hour and overwhelmed the American 12th seed for a 6-0 6-1 6-4 win and a meeting with Italian Lorenzo Musetti. The Spanish second seed's ruthless display came a day after Sinner beat Andrey Rublev in three sets to continue his devastating form at the year's second Grand Slam. "I love to watch matches on my days off, and yeah, let's say he inspires me in some way just to give my 100% in every match," Alcaraz told reporters. "He sees how important it is to play at such a great level in the whole match, just to have more time to recover after the match. So I'm just trying to do it as well. "But for me, it's great to have tennis. I love Grand Slams for that because on my days off, I have great matches to watch and get inspired by watching them." Alcaraz beat Musetti in the Monte Carlo final and the Rome semi-final en route to the title but expected a tough test when they face off again in Paris. "It's going to be a beautiful battle, a beautiful match," Alcaraz added. "I think we're both playing great tennis. Monte Carlo final, semis in Rome, so it's going to be great for the people to watch as well. I have to be ready for that match."

Manchester City set to make AC Milan's Reijnders their first major summer signing
MANCHESTER CITY HAVE agreed a fee with AC Milan for Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders. City are set to pay €55 million for the 26-year-old, who has agreed a five-year contract to move to the Premier League. The formalities of the deal are still to be completed but it appears City have landed their first major summer signing. Reijnders was a bright spark in a disappointing season for Milan, who only finished eighth in Serie A, missing out on qualification for Europe. Advertisement Reijnders, who joined the Italian giants from AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2023, scored 15 goals in 2024-25 and will bolster Pep Guardiola's midfield options following the departure of Kevin De Bruyne. City will play their first match of the Club World Cup against Morocco's Wydad AC on 18 June.
