Steelers Shocker As 'Stale' Mike Tomlin Urged By Legend To Leave

Yahoo18-05-2025

Famously, the Pittsburgh Steelers have been a model of coaching consistency as they have engineered their way to a streak of incredible longevity in the head coach's office over the past 56 years.
Consider ...

Dating back to 1969, when Chuck Noll took over for Bill Austin, who went 11-28-3 in three seasons from 1966 to 1968, Pittsburgh has had just three coaches.
Noll marched along the sidelines for 21 seasons, winning four Super Bowls, with just seven losing seasons in that time. Bill Cowher took over in 1992 and stormed those same sidelines and won a Super Bowl with just 3 losing campaigns in 15 NFL seasons.
Cowher retired after the 2006 season when Mike Tomlin took over. Tomlin is entering his 19th season for the Steelers with one Super Bowl under his watch, with an astonishing zero losing seasons.
But ... one Steelers legend now says there is a "but.'' ... claiming that Tomlin's voice in the locker room has grown "stale.''

"I believe Mike Tomlin should coach in another organization,'' Ryan Clark said. "Mike Tomlin should be a fresh voice somewhere else. ... I believe his voice has run stale there.''
Make no mistake; Clark, now an ESPN analyst, is a supporter of Tomlin's.
Said Clark: "I believe he's allowed that team to reach the highest of heights they're going to reach unless they can get a top-tier quarterback. I've said time and time again, I do believe that should be the decision he makes.''
The "get a quarterback'' thing is ... a problem.
And yet Tomlin isn't likely going anywhere in the immediate future.
The coach signed a new deal back in 2024 that will take him through until the end of the 2027 campaign.

Entering his season 19, Tomlin might have his biggest challenge ahead of him since ... well, since last season. The team managed a 10-7 mark and made the playoffs without top-notch play quarterback, and split the season between Justin Fields and Russell Wilson.
They're both gone now, and Tomlin and the Steelers are in trouble under center. Unless the Aaron Rodgers saga turns out positively, with the four-time league MVP not only suiting up in the black and gold for the first week of the season but also playing at a high level ...
Tomlin's streak might be up.
And according to Clark, maybe his time should be up, too.

Zack Baun Ends Fan Panic With Perfect 12-Word Message

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. We've all watched the Philadelphia Eagles for a while now. We may not have watched the game as long as someone who remembers the AFL/NFL merger, but we've certainly seen enough to make educated guesses. We've seen trends, a ton of football, and so many offseasons. We've seen divisional realignment and the NFL going from six divisions to eight. Raise your hand if you remember when the Arizona Cardinals were in the NFC East. Some memories are tougher, such as Reggie White leaving the Eagles in free agency. As sad as that was, however, everyone learned something from it. Losing the Minister of Defense still hurts, but life went on. That being said, an offseason like the most recent, one where so many familiar faces were lost, can be overcome. If you need a shot of confidence, look no further than Zack Baun's direction. Zack Baun #53 of the Philadelphia Eagles celebrates after defeating the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX at Caesars Superdome on February 9, 2025 in New Orleans, Louisiana Zack Baun #53 of the Philadelphia Eagles celebrates after defeating the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX at Caesars Superdome on February 9, 2025 in New Orleans, LouisianaEagles All-Pro Zack Baun Eases Fan and Media Panic With 12 words Coooer DeJean and Reed Blankenship have hit a home run with their Exciting Mics brand. Their podcast is new, but it's loads of fun. Recently, they have interviewed Saquon Barkley. On an even more recent episode, Zack Baun sat down for a conversation. Baun signed an extension after the Super Bowl. He also saw the mass exodus by so many Eagles defenders that we all witnessed during free agency. Fans and the media panicked, but the fan favorite hasn't lost any of his confidence. "I feel like we're miles ahead of where we were last year"... Zack Baun on the Eagles defense heading into the season: 'I feel like we're miles ahead of where we were last year' — Exciting Mics (@excitingmics) June 12, 2025 Those were Baun's words during his interview with Reed and Coop. It sounds simple enough to say, but this is Philly. People need action more than words. Howie Roseman and his staff attacked free agency and the draft, stacking the defense with hungry players looking to make an impact. Philadelphia lost Josh Sweat, Milton Williams, and Darius Slay. They lost Isaiah Rodgers, Oren Burks, and Avonte Maddox. This offseason, they traded C.J. Gardner-Johnson away. Eventually, they moved on from Bryce Huff, but they've stacked the cupboard with low-risk signings and several exciting draftees. Philly is good at this. Adoree Jackson and Azeez Ojulari find their way to Philly from a rival. Josh Uche is another of the free-agent signings. So is Patrick Johnson. During the NFL Draft, they added Jihaad Campbell, Smael Mondon, Ty Robinson, and Andrew Mukuba. Philly didn't sit idly with their losses. They held serve at several positions and, dare we say, they upgraded at some others. They're also infused with youth. Guys like Jeremiah Trotter Jr. and Kelee Ringo await their opportunities. Their time is now, and the consensus is they are ready. Vic Fangio has tons of talent to work with. All of that has been said to say this. Take Baun's words for it. Philly will be just fine on defense in 2025. Believe it or not, they may be better than they were last season.

Steelers' Mike Tomlin: We want hotter practices for 'more stressful environment'

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is turning up the heat on his team — literally. Tomlin is moving the Steelers' training camp practices to the afternoon this summer; he explained the rationale. "Wasn't hot enough last year. To be quite honest with you, heat aids in the development of physical conditioning. It makes it a more stressful environment, and that's what we go to camp for," Tomlin said on Thursday after the Steelers' mandatory minicamp, according to "We go to camp to get better, and if it's a little bit more miserable late in the day, man, that's what we want." Pittsburgh will hold its 2025 training camp at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, which is roughly one hour east of Acrisure Stadium, home of the Steelers. As for stories to keep tabs on with the Steelers this summer, they recently added 41-year-old quarterback and four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers, who will be throwing passes to star wide receiver and two-time Pro Bowler DK Metcalf, whom Pittsburgh acquired from the Seattle Seahawks this offseason. Superstar linebacker T.J. Watt hasn't been present for the team's minicamp this week, as he seeks an extension; Watt, a four-time All-Pro, is entering the final year of a four-year, $112 million deal. Tomlin expressed that he's "optimistic" a deal will eventually be worked out with Watt. The Steelers are coming off a 10-7 season that saw them lose to the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC wild-card round. Tomlin is entering his 19th season as Pittsburgh's head coach, with the team never posting a losing season and owning a combined 183-107-2 regular-season record and 8-11 postseason record under him. All that said, the Steelers haven't won a playoff game since the 2016 season. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? Donna Kelce joins cast of 'The Traitors' Season 4

Donna Kelce joins cast of 'The Traitors' Season 4 Show Caption Hide Caption Donna Kelce talks new movie, Taylor Swift, and special meaning behind her jersey In Hallmark's "Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story," Donna Kelce is wearing a heartfelt jersey from her son Travis, featuring a sweet message. USA TODAY Donna Kelce, the mother of Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and retired Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, is having a busy NFL offseason. The celebrity mom was just revealed as one of the cast members on "The Traitors" Season 4. "The Traitors" is reality competition show following a group of contestants in a Scottish castle who are secretly split into two groups: traitors and faithfuls. The faithfuls must determine who the traitors are and banish them from the game in order to win a grand cash prize. The American version of the show, which airs on Peacock, has racked up several accolades since premiering in 2023, including an Emmy Award and, as NBC touted, being named the most-watched unscripted series in the country. Here's what to expect from Donna Kelce's appearance on the show. What is 'The Traitors'? Why Donna Kelce was cast "The Traitors" features a lineup of reality stars and other public figures on its cast. The first season of the American version consisted of a combination of regular people and big name stars, but the previous two seasons have strictly included the latter. While the cast generally includes fan favorites from shows like "The Real Housewives," "Survivor" and several other reality TV programs, there have also been a few wild card picks − which helps explain how Donna Kelce may have ended up in the group. For example, last season saw a few celebrity relatives on the cast. Dylan Efron, the brother of actor Zac Efron, was one of Season 3's winners. Sam Asghari, the ex-husband of pop star Britney Spears, was also on the show. Who is Donna Kelce? Donna Kelce is the mother of Travis and Jason Kelce, who are both known for their NFL careers. While she has long been in the spotlight as a two-time NFL parent, her prominence rose in 2023 when her sons competed against each other in Super Bowl LVII, during which "Mama Kelce" wore her signature split jersey. Since then, she has appeared in ads for brands like Pillsbury and Ziploc and even made cameos in two Hallmark films last year. Kelce is an Ohio native, having earned a radio and television degree from Ohio University. She previously worked in the banking industry in Ohio, according to her alma mater.
