Bhubaneswar: CBI on Friday arrested Anil Rath, an EPFO staffer, for allegedly taking Rs 10,000 bribe from a chartered accountant in Berhampur on Thursday night. "The complainant wanted to process an online approval regarding authorised signatory in EPFO.
Rath demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 to get the work done," a CBI source said.TNN

Man stabbed to death during mobile phone snatching attempt in Delhi, juvenile apprehended
NEW DELHI: A man cycling home from work was stabbed to death by three individuals, including two juveniles, after he resisted a mobile phone snatching attempt in northwest Delhi's Ashok Vihar area. Police apprehended one of the juveniles in connection with the case. According to police, the incident occurred on June 10. Cops at the Ashok Vihar Police Station received an emergency call from the hospital, reporting that a person named Amit Kumar was admitted in a severely injured condition after being stabbed by unidentified individuals. He was brought to the hospital by Constable Saurav, who was on routine patrolling duty at the time. Upon receiving the information, a team from the local police station immediately rushed to the location where the incident reportedly took place. During the medical examination of Amit, it was found that he sustained two deep stab wounds on the right side of his chest. Unfortunately, despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. A case was registered under Section 103(1) of the BNS, which pertains to the offence of murder. During the course of the investigation, a 17-year-old juvenile suspect was apprehended in connection with the crime. During interrogation, the juvenile confessed that the motive behind the attack was robbery. "Amit was returning home from work when he was intercepted by the trio, who threatened him at knifepoint and demanded his phone," police said. He told cops that while attempting to snatch Amit's mobile phone, an altercation ensued. In the course of the struggle, his two accomplices attacked Amit with knives. After committing the assault, they fled the scene with Amit's mobile phone and other belongings. The deceased was the sole breadwinner of his family, and his untimely death left his loved ones in a state of deep shock and financial distress. He is survived by his wife, two minor children aged 6 and 8 years, and his elderly mother, all of whom were entirely dependent on him for their livelihood and daily needs. "We are in talks with the factory association to provide assistance to the family, given that he was their sole breadwinner," police said. Man stabs girlfriend, kills self with gun in Kanpur; police say couple had eloped before
In Kanpur Dehat, a man named Kundan attacked his girlfriend with a sharp weapon following a heated argument outside her residence. Upon police arrival, Kundan fatally shot himself. The victim is hospitalized and stable. KANPUR: In Kanpur Dehat's Rania police station jurisdiction, a tragic incident unfolded on Saturday when a man attacked his girlfriend with a sharp-edged weapon before taking his own life. Kundan, who came from Gursahaiganj in Kannauj, visited his girlfriend in Rania, Kanpur Dehat, armed with a sharp weapon and a firearm. The situation escalated when Kundan threatened to commit suicide and began shouting abusive language outside the girl's residence before attacking her neck with the sharp weapon. Sonam Stayed Here Secretly After Raja's Murder, Had A Rental Agreement Too
Sonam Raghuvanshi took shelter at a rented accommodation in Indore after murdering her newly wed husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, during their honeymoon in Meghalaya last month, police sources said. Sonam, who was reported "missing" after Raja's body was recovered from a deep gorge in the northeastern state, escaped and went into hiding at the Indore flat that was rented by one of the three hitmen involved in the crime. The flat was taken on lease by Vishal Singh Chauhan, who was the first one to attack Raja with a machete in Meghalaya, the sources said. The remaining hitmen were identified as Akash Rajput and Anand Kurmi. The sources said the accommodation is located five kilometres away from Vishal's house, and was taken on rent on May 30, seven days after the brutal crime that has sent shockwaves across the country. "The police verification was also done while he was taking the flat on rent. He said he was an interior designer and was looking for a flat to stay in. It was this flat where Sonam hid in after the murder," one of the sources said. "An advance of Rs 16,000 was also given to the landlord," the source added. Raj Kushwaha, Sonam's lover whom police said was the main conspirator, had ordered ration worth Rs 5,000 online for her in the flat, another source said. The case initially began as that of a "missing couple", after 29-year-old Raja and 24-year-old Sonam could not be traced during their honeymoon in the northeastern state, but took a tragic turn and revealed a shocking betrayal. The couple - both from Indore - got married on May 11. According to the police, the wedding took place despite Sonam's relationship with Raj, who worked as an accountant at the furniture sheet unit owned by her family. Sonam used to look after the family business. After their wedding in Indore, Raja and Sonam travelled to Meghalaya for honeymoon. They disappeared on May 23, hours after checking out of a homestay at Nongriat village, 20 km from where Raja's body was found on June 2. Amid an intense search for "missing" Sonam, she surfaced in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur on June 8 and later surrendered at Nandganj police station. This came hours after Akash, Vishal, and Anand were arrested from Uttar Pradesh and Indore and Sagar towns (in Madhya Pradesh). Raj was arrested later. On Wednesday, Sonam reportedly confessed to killing her husband. Police said her cousin, Jitendra Raghuvanshi, had cleared the first installment of payment to the three hitmen. Sonam's brother Govind said his family has snapped all ties with her. He also expressed solidarity with Raja's grieving family members and vowed to help them in their fight for justice in a case which has shocked the nation.
