UP: Expelled Samajwadi Party leader calls on Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath
Following her expulsion from the Samajwadi Party for praising Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Chail MLA Pooja Pal met with the CM, expressing gratitude for his efforts in curbing organized crime. Pal, widow of slain MLA Raju Pal, accused Atiq Ahmed, of conspiring against her and praised Adityanath for bringing down her husband's killer.
ANI Expelled SP MLA Pooja Pal meets UP CM Yogi Adityanath Chail MLA Pooja Pal, who was recently expelled by Samajwadi Party for anti-party activities, called on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at his official residence in Lucknow.Both the office of the chief minister and the MLA posted about the meeting on micro-blogging site X on Saturday night.
"Honourable MLA of Chail assembly constituency of Kaushambi district, Pooja Pal, made a courtesy visit to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow today," the office of Yogi Adityanath said in a post in Hindi.Sharing a photograph of the meeting, Pal said in a post in Hindi, "I once again thank the honourable chief minister. Under his leadership, goons and mafias are shown their rightful place, which is very important for a progressive society." In another X post on Sunday, Pal said, "There are some people who always comment on my personal life and keep writing about it. I have no problem if they write, but they should write the truth, because I contested the election from their party, their leader knows everything..."
"They knew I lost the election in 2017. Taking this as an opportunity, some leaders -- Atiq Ahmed (gangster-turned-politician who was shot dead in 2023) and my maternal relatives who wanted to contest the MLA election -- started working to end my political career. I was unable to fight Raju Pal's (her husband) case. A conspiracy was hatched against me by Atiq Ahmed, in which my own family members were involved," she wrote in the long post.She further wrote that after Atiq was murdered, her brothers took up her case. "They told me to get married, that they are with me. But a few days after the marriage, I came to know the truth. These same people were sitting somewhere and talking that now the case against Atiq will be closed. But I will not back off." Pal also mentioned that she has applied for divorce."Now when I spoke the truth in the assembly, despite knowing everything, out of irritation and revenge, they hatched a conspiracy to tarnish my image and kept writing about my personal life," she said.
"Even today, the trust and love of the people remain with me. The people of my city (Prayagraj) West and Chail know everything about my sorrows. That is why their support is still with me. Out of fear of this, some 'samajwadis' are using kinds of tricks to tarnish my image," she added. Pooja Pal was expelled from the Samajwadi Party on Thursday, just hours after she praised Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the Assembly for "reducing to dust" gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, who was accused of murdering her husband Raju Pal in 2005.During the 24-hour special discussion on 'Vision 2047' during the ongoing monsoon session of the Assembly, Pal had said that the present government's anti-crime policies had brought her husband's killers to the ground."The chief minister has done the work of reducing my husband's murderer Atiq Ahmed into dust. He saw my hidden tears, which no one saw for years," she told the House.Pooja Pal's husband Raju Pal, a former BSP MLA From Prayagraj West, was shot dead nine days after their wedding in January 2005, in an attack linked to Atiq Ahmed.Ahmed, a former MP and multiple-time MLA from Allahabad West, was serving a life sentence when he and his brother Ashraf were shot dead at point-blank range by three assailants while they were being escorted by police for a medical check-up in Prayagraj on April 15, 2023.
The killing took place in full view of the media and was broadcast live.

'A great and very successful day in Alaska! The meeting with President Vladimir Putin of Russia went very well, as did a late-night phone call with President Zelenskyy of Ukraine, and various European Leaders, including the highly respected Secretary General of NATO. It was determined by all that the best way to end the horrific war between Russia and Ukraine is to go directly to a Peace Agreement, which would end the war, and not a mere Ceasefire Agreement, which often times do not hold up," the US President had posted on Truth Social. ‘Big step taken today': Yogi Adityanath inaugurates UP's first green hydrogen project
Claiming that 'a big step has been taken today', Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday inaugurated the state's first green hydrogen plant in Gorakhpur, with the project aiming to produce 72,000 tonnes of green fuel in a year. The plant launched by Torrent Group will blend hydrogen with natural gas for distribution, and is being touted as 'a significant step in India's energy transition'. 'This is the first such plant in Uttar Pradesh and only second in the country. A big step has been taken today as this plant would ensure blending of green hydrogen with CNG (compressed natural gas) and PNG (piped natural gas),' the Chief Minister said. As a pilot project, the plant will mix 2% green hydrogen with natural gas (both CNG and PNG) for city gas distribution systems. 'The solar power is available only till there is sunlight. But this is the future source of energy. Research is going on to ensure that electricity is generated from hydrogen for round-the-clock supply. This new energy might be costly for the time being but just like mobile tariffs, it would become cheaper in the future,' said Adityanath. Speaking on the issue of climate change, he said, 'The rainfall, which is taking place now, should have occurred in July itself. It is all because of the climate change which is affecting the crops and how humans are playing not just with the environment but also lives.' But this can be changed with the use of organic farming and the use of alternative sources of energy, he added. 'Uttar Pradesh has a great potential in green hydrogen energy because of its water resources when compared to other states,' the CM said. Green hydrogen is hydrogen gas produced by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen using electricity produced through renewable energy sources. The green here doesn't mean that the produced hydrogen gas is of green colour; it is a reference to zero usage of fossil fuels in the production of hydrogen gas. Officials informed that the 2 MW renewable energy plant will generate hydrogen through electrolysis, reducing carbon emissions by around 500 tonnes. The state came up with its Green Hydrogen Policy last year, wherein the government will provide incentives and rebates for setting up of green hydrogen and green ammonia production facilities. The policy offers a 30% capital subsidy which will be up to 40 per cent for the first four projects in the state. Gorakhpur MP Ravi Kishan, who also attended the programme, termed the project a 'game-changer' that would script a new energy revolution in the district, while Sahjanwa MLA Pradeep Shukla said such projects were steering UP towards becoming a developed state by 2047. The CM also planted a Rudraksha sapling at the site, symbolising the state's commitment to environmental protection. — PTI inputs

Ukraine may have to recognize territorial losses under peace deal, says Macron
Paris [France], August 18 (ANI): French President Emmanuel Macron has said that Ukraine may ultimately have to recognise the loss of some of its territories as part of a potential peace settlement with Russia. 'As part of a truce, a ceasefire or a peace deal, the country may recognize the loss of territories," Macron said in a video address released on the Elysee Palace's X page. 'It will not recognize that they are under anyone else's sovereignty, but will recognize their loss though military action. It doesn't run counter to international law, but will be a very serious concession," he added, according to Russian news agency Tass.
