GenAI can revolutionize healthcare in Kingdom: report
As part of the Kingdom's ambitious Vision 2030 and the Health Sector Transformation Program, the healthcare sector is witnessing groundbreaking innovations with the integration of generative AI. PwC Middle East, in partnership with the HSTP, has launched the latest report, 'Navigating new frontiers in health: A strategic guide to GenAI in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,' which provides a detailed analysis of the current state of healthcare transformation and how AI is poised to reshape the future of healthcare delivery in the Kingdom.
The report gathers insights from PwC Middle East's 28th CEO Survey — KSA Findings, which revealed that 92 percent of CEOs in Saudi Arabia plan to systematically integrate GenAI into their technology platforms within three years, 88 percent into core business strategy, and 79 percent into new products/services development. For the health sector, the potential applications of GenAI in support of building a 'vibrant society' are wide-ranging, including in medical imaging and diagnosis, drug discovery, mobile clinics and predictive, personalized care.
'This report underscores the growing potential of genAI to not only optimize healthcare operations but also to improve patient care and outcomes,' said Tariq Beshtawi, health industries partner, digital health transformation leader, PwC Middle East. 'As Saudi Arabia works toward its Vision 2030 goals, the healthcare sector's adoption of GenAI will play a crucial role in creating a more resilient, efficient, and patient-centric system.'
With the Kingdom facing increasing pressure to manage chronic diseases and improve accessibility in underserved regions, GenAI is proving to be a game-changer in optimizing care delivery and relieving the administrative burden on medical professionals.

Over 78,000 medical services provided to pilgrims as Saudi health system reports 5 heat exhaustion cases
Saudi Gazette report MAKKAH — Saudi Arabia's healthcare system has treated five cases of heat exhaustion among pilgrims since the beginning of the Hajj season until the second day of Dhul Hijjah, the Ministry of Health confirmed. All cases were successfully managed, reflecting the Kingdom's comprehensive efforts to ensure optimal medical care under the Health Sector Transformation Program and the Pilgrim Experience Program. As of this point in the Hajj season, the Saudi health system has provided over 78,000 medical services to pilgrims. More than 46,000 pilgrims have been received at primary healthcare centers, while emergency departments have handled 17,000 cases. Outpatient clinics have recorded over 860 visits. In terms of hospital admissions, more than 3,000 pilgrims have been hospitalized, including over 1,600 in intensive care units. The Ministry of Health has also performed eight open-heart surgeries and 104 cardiac catheterization procedures during the ongoing pilgrimage. The Health Call Center 937 received more than 27,000 medical consultations, underscoring the preparedness of Saudi Arabia's healthcare infrastructure and its responsiveness in delivering reliable and immediate medical support to pilgrims. Health authorities continue to provide services at the highest standards throughout Hajj 1446 to ensure the well-being of pilgrims and the continuity of safe, efficient medical care across all facilities.

MAKKAH: As part of Saudi Arabia's efforts to improve the experience of Hajj, a specialized institute at Makkah's Umm Al-Qura University is training thousands of professionals to work with the millions of pilgrims expected to travel to the two holy cities. The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Institute for Hajj and Umrah Research plays a significant role in national development efforts under Vision 2030. Director Khalid Al-Ghamdi spoke to Arab News about how the institute is working to improve the experience of the Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages. 'The institute remains a key driver in enhancing the pilgrimage experience through applied research and strategic capacity building,' Al-Ghamdi told Arab News. 'As an advanced scientific arm, it plays a vital role in improving the efficiency and safety of services at the Grand Mosque and the holy sites.' The institute also trains thousands of field personnel annually to serve pilgrims and Umrah performers, in roles including security and healthcare staff, drivers and volunteers. Training is delivered through immersive rehearsals that closely mirror real-world conditions in the field. RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has introduced robotic surgery at King Abdullah Medical City in Makkah, the Kingdom's Ministry of Health said on Thursday. The new robotic system marks a major advancement in healthcare services provided to Hajj pilgrims and will support procedures in thoracic surgery, urology, and oncology, enabling greater surgical precision and faster recovery for patients. The initiative is part of the Ministry of Health's efforts to leverage technology to improve the quality and efficiency of care delivered during the annual pilgrimage. The hospital has also launched the first-ever PET-CT scanner within the ministry's hospitals in the western region.
