Cops tracking down five who escaped from Jelebu drug rehab centre
SEREMBAN: Police are searching for five of six trainees who escaped from the Narcotics Addiction Rehabilitation Centre in Jelebu near here.
Jelebu police chief Supt Azizan Said said a report on the incident involving the male trainees aged from 25 and 42, was lodged at 1am on Wednesday (June 18).
He said one of the escapees, a 35-year-old man, was recaptured within 24 hours near the factory in Kongkoi, Jelebu, some 5km from the centre.
"Police have launched an operation to track down and arrest the remaining escapees, with the assistance of the K9 unit from the Negeri Sembilan police headquarters and officers from the Jelebu National Anti-Drugs Agency.
"The trainees still at large are P. Tinogaran, 36, last known address Apartment Taman Sentosa, Perak; G. Vinaiyetiran, 36, Taman Munsyi Ibrahim, Johor; V. Manimaran, 38, Taman Seri Bernam, Selangor; S. Bala Ganes, 42, Bandar Baru Sultan Suleiman, Selangor; and K. Mohanarajh, 25, Taman Bertuah, Perak," he said in a statement on Wednesday.
He urged the public to provide any information to assist the investigation by contacting the nearest police station or the Jelebu district police headquarters at 06-613 6222 or 06-613 7999.
Azizan said the case is being investigated under Sections 223 and 224 of the Penal Code. – Bernama

Unemployed man jailed 14 months for threatening to kill his father
MUAR: An unemployed man who threatened to kill his father with an iron bar and attempted to strangle him was sentenced to 14 months in jail after pleading guilty at the magistrate's court here today. Sugan Dheenathayalan, 21, pleaded guilty to two charges after they were read to him by the court interpreter before Magistrate Suzana Mokhtar. According to the first charge, the accused intentionally injured his 53-year-old father by punching him in the head and strangling him at a house in Bukit Pasir at 10.30pm on June 15. He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A. Section 323 provides for imprisonment of up to one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both. Section 326A allows for double the maximum sentence if the offence involves a family member. For the second charge, Sugan was accused of threatening his father with an iron bar at the same time, date and location. The offence falls under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of two years' imprisonment, a fine, or both. According to the facts of the case, the incident started with an argument after the accused refused to follow his father's instruction to pick up a chicken near their house. The argument escalated when the accused lost his temper and punched his father. He then pointed an iron bar at him and said: "Do you want me to poke you? Do you want to die?" ("Kau nak aku cucuk? Kau nak mati ke?"). The incident was witnessed by the accused's mother, and the couple later lodged a police report out of concern for their safety. Deputy public prosecutor Nur Amieerah Alludeen prosecuted, while the accused was represented by Fatimah Zahrah Azmi from the National Legal Aid Foundation. The court sentenced Sugan to eight months' imprisonment for the first charge and six months for the second, to be served concurrently.

Uni student nabbed for having self-produced child sexual abuse material among other pornographic content
KUALA LUMPUR: A 20-year-old university student has been detained for possessing more than 5,000 files of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and adult pornographic content. It is learnt that the police believe he also produced some of the illicit materials himself, involving two local child victims. The suspect was detained on April 29 in Pasir Gudang, Johor, during a joint operation led by the Malaysian Internet Crime Against Children (MICAC) unit under Bukit Aman CID's Sexual, Women and Child Investigation Division (D11), together with the Johor police and in collaboration with Google. Bukit Aman D11 principal assistant director Senior Asst Comm Siti Kamsiah Hassan said that an inspection of the suspect's devices uncovered thousands of explicit files, some believed to have been downloaded from the Internet, while others were allegedly created by the suspect himself. 'Further investigation revealed that the suspect had sexually exploited two young female cousins, aged four and nine,' she said in a statement on Thursday. SAC Kamsiah said the suspect was believed to have recorded the acts using his mobile phone at three different locations – in Selangor, Pahang and Kelantan," she said. Police have since seized a mobile phone and laptop for further investigation under Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 and Section 292 of the Penal Code for sale of obscene material, she said. "Three separate investigation papers have been opened to facilitate investigations in the respective states. "The suspect has already been charged in Johor for the possession of CSAM and adult pornography on May 22, where he pleaded guilty and was fined RM5,000. 'For the offence of recording explicit acts involving the children at his family home in Sungai Buloh between 2023 and 2025, the suspect was charged on Thursday in Klang,' she added. Another incident involving the recording of one of the victims while bathing in a plantation toilet in Maran, Pahang, is still under review by the Deputy Public Prosecutor. SAC Siti Kamsiah also said that another case, involving recordings made at the suspect's grandmother's home in Kelantan in 2023 and 2024, is currently under review by the Attorney General's Chambers.
