1. The tragic passing of Adam Selwood last week has impacted so many people. Our condolences go out to his family and friends as they grieve through this very difficult period.
2. This tragedy has again shone a spotlight on the issue of mental health, and how we all need to work together to support each other across the community. It's so important we make sure everyone knows there is help available for anyone going through difficult times.
3. It is National Volunteer Week, a great opportunity to reflect and thank all those people who generously give up their time to make our community a better place. I know with local sport in particular, clubs and organisations rely so much on the goodwill of people to help at weekend sport and weeknight training. Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers across our suburbs and regions.
4. I had the opportunity to visit Hands Oval in Bunbury last Friday — so impressive. Also, I met some local junior soccer players. They are so excited about the prospect of having the Matildas play in their hometown in June.
5. AC Milan will be back in Perth this winter! In their only match in Australia this year, they will take on our very own Perth Glory in a preseason friendly at HBF Park. Expecting a big and loud crowd at this incredible venue come July 31, with plenty to travel to see the Rossoneri.
6. The new Australian Hockey Centre is really taking shape, with the first of four international standard pitches now complete. Perth will continue to be home of the Australian high performance hockey program. This new centre will ensure WA can play host to major events in the future and ensure that we encourage more and more participation in this sport. We saw a growth of 7 per cent in hockey participation last year and we know new facilities help encourage more involvement.
7. It was incredibly fitting for Jack Della Maddalena to receive a champion's welcome home to Perth. Fantastic to see such a great turnout at the Yagan Square amphitheatre on Wednesday afternoon to celebrate WA's first ever UFC Champion.
8. Last week we released the concept plan for the Perth Entertainment and Sporting Precinct for community consultation. This will be an incredible precinct for the entire community, bringing together new public infrastructure, live music, entertainment, arts, culture and sport. Head to the Building for Tomorrow website to provide your input.
9. A major milestone for public transport this week, with the last ever diesel bus manufactured in WA leaving the depot. Every bus manufactured from this day forward will be electric. It's the start of a cheaper, cleaner and more efficient public transport system.
10. Like many, I have been drawn back into watching F1 because of the Drive to Survive series. I used to watch F1 with my cousins, but lost interest until the Netflix show began. While missing the big personality of Daniel Ricciardo from the series, Kimi Antonelli has been an exciting new addition. The 18-year-old's first race in Emilia-Romagna, his home region, saw him bring his classmates on an excursion to the Imola racetrack. What a great story!

Eight Aussies in Super Rugby Pacific 'Team of the Year'

Australian forwards have been rewarded for their consistent form with six named in a Super Rugby Pacific Team of the Year, including props Angus Bell and Allan Alaalatoa. Super Rugby Pacific player of the year, Moana Pasifika captain Ardie Savea, who had an unbeatable lead in voting with two rounds of the competition remaining, headlines the side. While the Team of the Year will become an official post-season recognition in Super Rugby Pacific alongside Player of the Year from next season, an honorary team has been named for 2025. There are eight Australians in total - two backs in cross-code star Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii, who was named as fullback in his first season, and Western Force winger Harry Potter. The line-up was formed from the top-ranked players in each position based on Player of the Year votes from across the season. If players were used across multiple positions, for team of the year purposes they were assigned only the position they most played during the season. "Selection in this team is a reflection of the respect and admiration these players have earned from their opponents, week in and week out, throughout the 2025 season," Super Rugby Pacific CEO Jack Mesley said. Australian openside flankers Carlo Tizzano, Fraser McReight and Langi Gleeson could not initially be separated for the third back row position, having received the same amount of votes (29). With voting coming down to who received the most "three votes" for best in a game, Tizzano and McReight couldn't be split, with both receiving five. They also received the same minor votes and shared the award. 2025 SUPER RUGBY PACIFIC TEAM OF THE YEARPROPS - Allan Alaalatoa (ACT Brumbies, 20 votes), Angus Bell (NSW Waratahs, 14 votes) HOOKER - Tevita Ikanivere (Fijian Drua, 19 votes) SECOND ROW - Jeremy Williams (Western Force, 21 votes), Patrick Tuipulotu (Blues, 20 votes) BACK ROW - Ardie Savea (Moana Pasifika, 46 votes), Tom Hooper (ACT Brumbies, 31 votes), Carlo Tizzano (Western Force, 29 votes) / Fraser McReight (Queensland Reds, 29 votes) HALFBACK - Cam Roigard (Hurricanes, 28 votes) FLY HALF - Damian McKenzie (Chiefs, 36 votes)CENTRES - Timoci Tavatavanawai (Highlanders, 32 votes), AJ Lam (Blues, 14 votes) WINGERS - Harry Potter (Western Force, 18 votes), Kini Naholo (Hurricanes, 18 votes) FULLBACK - Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii (NSW Waratahs, 20 votes)

The Matildas are aiming to farewell interim coach Tom Sermani in style when they take to the field for the second and final match of their friendly series against Argentina. Football: Joe Montemurro to coach Matildas

New Matildas coach Joe Montemurro is confident he has enough time to turn Australia into a team capable of winning next year's AFC Women's Asian Cup and is optimistic that injured stars Sam Kerr and Mary Fowler can play prominent roles. After a drawn-out process, Football Australia on Monday finally confirmed Montemurro's appointment, leaving him nine months to find a way to turn the Matildas from a team that fails to live up its surrounding hype into an outfit capable of winning a major tournament. The 54-year-old Melbourne-born mentor – whose previous jobs included title-winning stints as coach of the women's teams of Arsenal, Juventus and most recently Lyon – replaces interim Matildas coach Tom Sermanni, whose final game in charge will be Australia's clash with Argentina in Canberra on Monday night. Sermanni was appointed interim boss in September last year soon after the departure of Tony Gustavsson following the Matildas' poor Olympic Games campaign. Joe Montemurro has been named as the Matildas' new coach. Picture:Football Australia interim chief executive Heather Garriock defended her organisation for the length of time it took with its 'global search' to find a full-time replacement for Gustavsson. 'These processes take time, in this case, a little bit more time than we expected,' Garriock said. 'From the very start, Football Australia has been committed to finding the right coach and not the first coach. 'There were many considerations and many moving parts, and I'm glad we have finally got our man, the right man, who will take this team to the next level, I am sure.' Montemurro said being appointed Matildas coach – at least until the 2028 Olympics – was the 'honour of a lifetime', but leaving French outfit Lyon, one of the world's most prominent clubs in women's football, after just one season was 'difficult'. 'Lyon's an amazing club. I had an amazing season there, and obviously the situation was to continue the process, but I assessed a few things,' he said. 'I said to myself, and my wife and family, that this is now an exciting cycle for the Matildas, (with) the Asian Cup, (the 2027) World Cup, (the 2028) Olympic Games, and the opportunity was too good, plus there was something inside of me that was just telling me 'it's time'. 'I had to make a hard decision, a very difficult decision, but I believe the decision is the right one. 'This team means so much to so many Australians, and I'm humbled by the opportunity to help shape its next chapter.' Montemurro, who was scheduled to meet the team in Canberra on Monday afternoon, praised Sermanni for the head start he had given him in getting the Matildas – who haven't won a major tournament since 2010 – ready for the Women's Asian Cup, which starts in March next year in Australia. 'Tom's been able to build a process, give some opportunities to some players, stabilise the situation, and then from there we can bring it forward,' he said. 'It's all set up for me to take over with the staff and bring it to the next level. Is the Asian Cup winnable? Of course it is.' Tom Sermanni's stint as Matildas interim coach will end on Monday night in Canberra following Montemurro's appointment. Picture:And 'winnable' with a squad containing star Chelsea striker Kerr, who hasn't played since rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in her knee in January last year, and key playmaker Fowler, who suffered a similar injury in April playing for her club, Manchester City. Montemurro said he would 'map out a process' with Kerr that would include a 'profile' of her 'physical' and 'mental' recovery. 'You can get fit, you can get things right tactically, but then some players go through processes where, you (ask) 'are they mentally prepared for the tournament'?' he said. 'Sam fits into that scenario where we're going to assess and monitor and see where she's at. 'Let's get her fit and right, and then we'll have those discussions from there.' He said Fowler was a 'special player' who was in the 'best environment' at Manchester City to make a full recovery in time for the Women's Asian Cup. 'Hopefully, she'll be right (for the tournament),' Montemurro said.
