Maddison sustained the problem in a routine challenge with Anthony Elanga in the 83rd minute.
The 28-year-old instantly knew something was wrong as he put his hands on his head, waved to the bench and then crumpled in a heap, before being carted away.
Maddison had only just returned from a knee ligament problem sustained in May and was seen on crutches leaving the stadium in South Korea.
Manager Frank revealed: "We're pretty sure it was the same knee he injured before.

MADDISON'S AGONY Tottenham boss Thomas Frank gives worrying James Maddison injury update
"I think sometimes in life and football things can be both beautiful and brutal. That's what we got today.
"It looks like with Madders a bad injury and then on the other side unbelievable scenes for Son from his team-mates and the respect from the Newcastle players.
"First we had the walkaround and then the team-mates gathered around and he was emotional. In the changing room it was more of the same.
"I just said a few things but not much because it's about Sonny and then he said a few things. It was beautiful."
The injury overshadowed what looks to be Son's final game as a Tottenham player - after he announced plans to leave the club.
Son - linked with a move to MLS with Los Angeles FC - has become a legend of the North London side following his ten-year stay.
Son Heung-min announces he is LEAVING Tottenham after ten years in emotional press conference
His press conference revelation meant the friendly against Eddie Howe's Alexander Isak-less Toon was always going to be more about a Son love-in than the action on the pitch.
Actor Park Seo-Joon, star of Oscar-winning Parasite and a close pal of Son, gave a touching tribute to his mate before kick-off from the centre circle, claiming the people of South Korea could not sleep after Son's exit-plan announcement.
Chairman Daniel Levy shook Son's hand as the two teams lined up, along with all the players, while Magpies star Anthony Gordon gave the Spurs skipper a big hug.
A trumpet in the crowd played the tune 'Nice one Sonny' song, to which the 66,000 fans added the words, while 'Hey Jude' was belted out over the loudspeaker, allowing fans to change the eponymous words to 'Sonny'.
Brennan Johnson even did Son's trademark camera-shot celebration after giving Spurs an early lead, much to the delight of his outgoing team-mate.
The hope had been that Son could cap the occasion with a goal, but unfortunately, he did not have any chances to make it happen, as Harvey Barnes' banger on 38 minutes sealed a draw.
Son's number was up in the 64th minute and the players on both sides formed an impromptu guard of honour as he came off.
The 33-year-old, who capped ten years at the club in May by finally winning a trophy with the Europa League triumph, hugged everyone on the Spurs bench as he came off.
Frank revealed: "I think it's very likely Sonny's last game because it's very close."

Lionesses star Lauren Hemp presented with bus named after her in Norfolk hometown of North Walsham
Hundreds of fans serenaded Lioness Lauren Hemp with a rendition of Happy Birthday to give her a homecoming to remember. The winger, a key member of England's double Euros-winning team, was returning to North Walsham in Norfolk, where she grew up, as a local bus company named a vehicle after her. She was the overwhelming choice in a public competition to name the new bus, even before her starring role in the Lionesses' Euro2025 victory, said Charles Sanders of Sanders Coaches. Hemp cut the ribbon and was presented with a Lego kit of a double-decker bus in recognition of her favourite hobby away from the football pitch, which she documented on social media throughout the tournament. "Coming here and seeing so many people here is just unbelievable," she told ITV News Anglia. "It's so nice to see my home town supporting me as much as this. "It's only when you come back that you realise how much of a difference it's made." Two days before her 25th birthday, the crowd was encouraged to sing Happy Birthday to Hemp, and she was presented with gifts from the crowd after being introduced by North Walsham's town crier. Reflecting on the tournament win, Hemp said she was relieved that her team-mates managed to win the shoot-out before she was due to take a penalty. "Standing there in the penalty shoot-out was very nerve-racking. We managed to get the job done before I had to take a penalty, so that was a bonus. "After that long six weeks of preparing for it, it finally made the difference and we were able to lift the trophy."

Jorge Costa dead aged 53 as tributes pour in for Porto legend and Jose Mourinho's Champions League winning captain
Former defender Costa has died at the age of 53 after suffering a cardiac arrest at the club's training ground in Olival, according to reports Jorge Costa, Jose Mourinho 's Champions League-winning skipper at FC Porto in 2004, has passed away at the tender age of just 53. It's believed Costa, who served as Porto 's director of football, collapsed from a heart attack at the club's Olival training facility according to Portuguese reports. Costa began his footballing journey at Porto and made a remarkable 383 appearances for the club, claiming 24 honours during his time there - including that unforgettable Champions League victory in the 2003-04 season and the UEFA Cup triumph the previous year. He also enjoyed a stint in the Premier League after joining Charlton Athletic on loan during the 2001-02 season. The defender featured 26 times for the Addicks under manager Alan Curbishley. Following his departure from Porto, Costa went on to manage several European sides before returning to his beloved club as director of football last year, reports the Mirror. Porto announced his passing on Tuesday through a heartfelt message on Twitter, describing him as "a symbol" of the institution. "Jorge Costa has left us," their statement declared. "One of us, a leader, captain, example. A symbol of FC Porto. Thank you for being FC Porto until the end. Forever, Jorge Costa." Tributes immediately flooded in from across Portuguese football, with Porto's city rivals Sporting Lisbon also honouring Costa's memory. Their tribute read: "Sporting Clube de Portugal expresses its sorrow for the passing of Jorge Costa, football director of FC Porto and former Portuguese international." Sporting Clube de Portugal has expressed its profound sorrow at the passing of a notable figure in FC Porto and Portuguese football, extending its deepest sympathies to his loved ones. Liga Portugal also conveyed its heartfelt condolences to Costa's family, highlighting the ex-player's "fighting spirit and leadership". The statement read: "In this moment of grief, Liga Portugal extends its heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, FC Porto, and all those who shared his passion for football. Rest in peace." Mourinho reminisced warmly about an incident with Costa, illustrating his remarkable impact as Porto's captain. The former Chelsea manager recounted: "I had captains who were not leaders. I had one at Porto, Jorge Costa. One day, we were losing a match against a team called Belenenses, we were down 2-0 at halftime. "I was walking to the locker room, and everyone saw I was furious. "When I was about to enter, Jorge Costa told me, 'Wait outside for two minutes, please.' He went in, closed the door, and did the dirty work for me. "Then he opened the door and said, 'Coach us.' Because in the locker room, he did everything I would have done. "We won 3-2. He was a centre-back, had never scored goals in his life; that day, he scored two. Captain and leader are very different things. "You can't buy leaders. You can't manufacture leaders. And when you have them, your team is one step ahead."

Scandinavia and Lambourn lead 26 St Leger hopefuls
Aidan O'Brien dominates the potential field numerically with 11 possible runners hailing from his Ballydoyle yard. Justify colt Scandinavia has been a relatively late bloomer, finishing fifth to Carmers in the Queen's Vase at Ascot before winning the Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket. He stepped into open company at Goodwood last week and despite being overlooked by Ryan Moore in favour of Illinois, ran out the winner. His dual Derby-winning stablemate Lambourn would be another huge player if he turns up, as would Whirl, winner of last week's Nassau Stakes over 10 furlongs at Goodwood. Galveston, Oaks victor Minnie Hauk, Mount Kilimanjaro, Puppet Master, Saratoga, Shackleton, Stay True and Thrice are other Ballydoyle possibles. Carmers could have a trip to Yorkshire before his big day, with Paddy Twomey considering the Great Voltigeur Stakes for his prep – or he could stay closer to home. 'if he runs (beforehand) it will be either in the Great Voltigeur or the Vinnie Roe (at Leopardstown) and then the Leger,' said Twomey. 'Those two races are within a day of each other so we'll see which race looks more suitable.' Other notable entries include Charlie Johnston's Lazy Griff, placed in the Derby at Epsom and the Irish equivalent, Tennessee Stud and Arabian Force. Gordon Stakes victor Merchant was not entered by William Haggas.
