Nick Kyrgios withdraws from the US Open and will miss another major tournament
Kyrgios has battled injuries in recent years and had missed most of the 2023 and 2024 seasons before trying to return this year. After undergoing wrist and knee surgeries, he came back to play in the Australian Open, but lost in the first round. That was his first appearance in any major tournament since the 2022 U.S. Open.
Kyrgios had his best performance in a Grand Slam event just before that, losing to Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final.
Once ranked No. 13, he has played in just five singles matches on the ATP Tour this season, none since Miami in March.
He will be replaced in the tournament by a player who loses in the final stages of qualifying.

Alabama football may have the answer it needs at punter. With James Burnip, the Crimson Tide's starter for the past four seasons off to the NFL, Alabama had both true freshman Alex Asparuhov and Colorado School of Mines transfer Blake Doud battling for reps. Asparuhov missed the spring with an injury and has used fall camp to get into that "rhythm" and push for playing time. But after both of Alabama's scrimmages, Kalen DeBoer said Doud has set himself apart. "He's really to the point where he was at statistically, kind of what we thought he would be before he transferred," DeBoer said. Doud was RMAC Special Teams Player of the Year with Colorado School of Mines, and led all Division 2 punters with averaging 46.6 yards per kick. Nineteen of his punts landed inside the 20-yard line and 13 were for over 50 yards. DeBoer said Alabama pushes all specialists in its weight program that "forces you to do down before you can go up." Doud, DeBoer said, "definitely had an upward trajectory." And through scrimmages, DeBoer said he's seen that show up on the practice field from Doud. "The first scrimmage, I was impressed given the stadium. I'm like, 'OK, he can sustain this,'" DeBoer said. "He certainly has statistically, and you can even see it visually. You're out there watching, you can see the improvement over the last two weeks." Alabama football opens the 2025 season at Florida State Aug. 30. Ravens' Lamar Jackson OK after injury scare: ‘Prayers do get answered'
OWINGS MILLS, Md. — Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Lamar Jackson is fine, and that an X-ray taken after the quarterback had his foot stepped on during Wednesday's practice revealed no concerns. Jackson exited Wednesday's practice with about 30 minutes remaining in the workout and did not practice Thursday, the team's final session before Saturday's preseason finale against the Washington Commanders. Jackson, the two-time league MVP, has not played this preseason and wasn't expected to play Saturday, even before he got banged up. Advertisement 'He got his foot stepped on like we said yesterday,' Harbaugh said after Thursday's practice. 'They did a quick X-ray, and there's no damage or anything like that. I'm sure it's a little sore today, so we just kept him in. He's going to be good.' It wasn't initially clear what led to Jackson going to the ground after throwing a pass during a full-team session late in Wednesday's practice. Two of the Ravens' offensive linemen immediately ran toward Jackson to help him up. Jackson stayed on the field for a few more plays after the fall, although he didn't look entirely comfortable. He threw a few errant passes and, at one point, appeared to be flexing his right hand/wrist. Jackson then walked inside the team facility alongside head strength and conditioning coordinator Scott Elliott. Members of the team's medical and athletic training staff joined them in the building later. Harbaugh didn't speak to reporters on Wednesday, and offensive coordinator Todd Monken said he didn't see the play where Jackson hit the ground. A Ravens spokesperson told reporters Jackson just had his foot stepped on. Harbaugh said Thursday that the clean X-ray was a 'big relief.' 'I told the guys, 'Prayers do get answered,'' Harbaugh said. Dallas Baptist baseball program will become affiliate member of Pac-12 in 2027
DALLAS — Dallas Baptist's baseball program will join the Pac-12 as an affiliate member and begin play in the reconstructed conference in 2027, the school announced Thursday. DBU has won 40 games in 12 of the past 14 seasons and has played in the NCAA regionals in 14 of the past 17. The Patriots played four seasons in Conference USA and won regular-season championships in 2023 and 2025 and the league tournament in 2024. They played the previous nine seasons in the Missouri Valley Conference. 'This is yet another significant moment in the history of DBU athletics,' athletic director Matt Duce said. 'DBU baseball's legacy stretches back decades, shaped by the dedication of players and coaches who laid the foundation for today's success. Over the last two decades, coach (Dan) Heefner and the Patriots have carried that tradition to even greater heights, and joining the Pac-12 is the latest milestone in a storied history.' The Pac-12, which had 10 members disperse to other conferences in 2024, will reactivate next July.
