Formula 1 reaches the halfway point of the 2025 season with the British Grand Prix, with the iconic Silverstone Circuit hosting round 12 from July 4-6.
After a weekend to forget for Lando Norris in Canada, where he had a collision with his teammate Oscar Piastri that forced him to retire, the Briton bounced back the following round in Austria, clocking a qualifying time that was half a second quicker than his closest challenger Charles Leclerc - the largest pole margin of the season so far.
On race day, Norris managed to turn this advantage into his third victory of the season, finishing 02.695 seconds clear of Piastri and 19.820 seconds ahead of Charles Leclerc of Ferrari.
Now, Norris is only 15 points shy of championship leader Piastri, while McLaren is still sitting pretty at the top of the constructors' standings with 417 points after 11 rounds - 207 points clear of closest rivals Ferrari.
Heading to Silverstone this weekend, both Piastri and home hero Norris will battle fiercely for crucial points which could lead either driver to secure their maiden title and bring the team their first drivers' championship since 2008.
Another Briton in George Russell will also be hoping to secure his second victory of the season in front of his home crowd, and of course there is Lewis Hamilton who holds the record for the most wins at this legendary track with nine under his belt.
The seven-time world champion has stood on the Silverstone podium for 11 straight years, with his latest being a sensational victory last year after a lengthy drought of 945 days without a win. This year though, Hamilton is still searching for his first podium finish and has racked up 91 points so far, putting him sixth in the standings just behind his teammate Leclerc.

Wimbledon 2025: Ben Shelton-Rinky Hijikata match suspended due to darkness, with Shelton one game from winning

Ben Shelton argues with officials after play was suspended, with Shelton one game from potentially beating Australian Rinky Hijikata in straight sets. (Photo by) After a well-fought two sets against Australian Rinky Hijikata, Ben Shelton was one game away from advancing to the third round of Wimbledon. But instead, he'll have to wait until tomorrow to finish the job. Shelton and Hijikata's second round match was suspended at 9:29 p.m. local time due to darkness, as the sun had set about 10 minutes earlier. At the time that officials called the match, Shelton was leading Hijikata 6-2, 7-5, 5-4 — one game from a straight set victory. Advertisement Shelton was understandably unhappy after the call, speaking heatedly with the officials as Hijikata exited the court. The crowd had a strong reaction as well, booing the ruling and seeming to chant "one more game." Part of Shelton's frustration was that, as the sun went down, both players had broached the idea of suspending the match earlier in the game, but the officials had told them to play on. The match took place at No. 2 Court, which has no roof or stadium lighting. Due to scheduling, Shelton and Hijikata did not start playing until after 7 p.m. local time. The court had four other matches take place prior to theirs, with one of the men's matches taking nearly three hours and the second lasting two and a half. Advertisement Shelton did have the chance to lock up victory prior to the officials' call: The 22-year-old American went up 40-0 in what could have been the match-winning game, before dropping five straight points to Hijikata. As a result, Hijikata took the win to bring the set to 5-4 — and force it into a second day. Shelton, ranked No. 10, is one of the top two American men remaining in the tournament.

Gabriel Heinze to join Mikel Arteta's Arsenal coaching staff

Former Manchester United and Real Madrid defender Gabriel Heinze is joining Mikel Arteta's coaching staff at Arsenal. Heinze's appointment comes after Carlos Cuesta departed the club to become Parma's new head coach. Arteta and Heinze were team-mates at Paris Saint-Germain during the 2001-02 campaign. Advertisement At the start of this season, Arteta spoke about his time at PSG, saying: 'The other inspirations were (Mauricio) Pochettino and Heinze, those two were next to me all the time, behind me, and they were guiding me in everything I had to do in my professional life, how I had to understand the game and they were inspirational to me.' Heinze, 47, has held managerial roles at Argentine top-flight side Godoy Cruz, Major League Soccer (MLS) club Atlanta United and Newell's Old Boys, the club where he started his career, since retiring from playing in 2014. The former Argentina international's last head coaching role was at Newell's, having departed in November 2023 following one year in charge. Heinze's playing career saw him win league titles at Manchester United, Real Madrid and Marseille as well as an Olympic gold medal with Argentina in Athens in 2004. He won 72 caps for his country and was a Copa America runner-up twice. He will join a coaching staff team at Arsenal that includes assistant Albert Stuivenberg, set-piece coach Nico Jover, and goalkeeping coach Inaki Cana. The three have all been at the club since 2021. Former Gunner returns to the club in training

Former Arsenal academy goalkeeper Remy Mitchell was back with the club in training this week, almost three years after his official departure. Photo via The Arsenal u18s returned to training this week, but one unexpected face among the group was former academy goalkeeper Remy Mitchell. Advertisement Mitchell departed for Swansea City in 2022, after coming to the end of his Arsenal contract, but he's evidently been given permission to train with his old club this summer. The 21-year-old's presence shouldn't be taken as a sign that he's returning to Arsenal for good, given he's too old to play competitive fixtures with the u18 side. But he's there to help out his old team and get a training session or two in for his own fitness. Photo via Mitchell spent most of the 2024/25 campaign playing for Haringey Borough in the Isthmian League North Division, the eighth tier of English football. The goalkeeper went on loan to Aylesbury United last November, playing three matches as cover for the suspended Jack Hopwood. But after that spell was up, the youngster returned to Haringey for the remainder of the season. Advertisement Mitchell also featured in six-a-side football competition Baller League this year, playing for YouTuber TBJZL's team alongside another former Arsenal academy player Henri Lansbury. Photo byOutside of his playing career, Mitchell remains an Arsenal fan, attending both legs of the Gunners' Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid and cheering his old team on from the stands.
