Brimfield Antique Flea Market kicks off 2025 season
BRIMFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – 22News joined hundreds of people on Tuesday for the opening day of the Brimfield Antique Flea Market.
It's the oldest and largest outdoor antique show in America. The Brimfield Antique Flea Market dates back to 1959, and each year more than 6,000 vendors set up along Route 20, sharing their collections with over 50,000 visitors.

The show brings people from all over the world right here to Hampden County. From jewelry to furniture, there's something for every collector. Some come with a mission, while others take in the impressive spread, waiting for something to catch their eye. For most, it's tradition, often one that spans decades.
David's been coming to Brimfield for more than 20 years, pulling his finds in the same wagon he pulled his children through the show years ago, 'They're all grown up, now we just come to enjoy ourselves.'
Richie and Marissa told 22News they come from Long Island every year and stay the whole week, 'There's a lot to look at. There are a lot of interesting displays, and people put a lot of effort into it.'
Vendors prepare all year round, the Johnson brothers saying they hustle for it. 'Nine out of 10 times it doesn't work out, there's a lot of junk, but one out of ten times you'll find something like this and you can do pretty good. We hit a lot of yard sales, estate sales, anywhere really.'
Another who has had a booth in Brimfield for 15 years, saying it's the reminiscing that brings people back year after year, 'You see something that reminds you of your parents, your grandparents, aunts, uncles, when you grew up. I brings back good memories,' said Bob Courinoyer of Southbridge.
The first of the Antique Flea Market's three runs goes through Sunday, and if you miss it this time, you can head out to Brimfield again in July or September.

Retired 22News Anchor Rich Tettemer honored at Springfield Regional Chamber Spotlight

Tettemer, who recently retired after nearly four decades on air, was named the Richard J. Moriarty Citizen of the Year at the Springfield Regional Chamber's Spotlight and annual meeting, both his family and 22News family proudly watching on. 'So many people have said how much they've respected me and liked watching me, it's unbelievable,' Tettemer said. 'I appreciate it so much.' The event served as a celebration of growth, connection, and the people behind the region's progress, from local leaders within journalism, to law, education, and business. For Rich, it was always about delivering the news to viewers with great integrity and lending out a helping hand outside of the station. 'Because it's about commitment to the community,' Tettemer said. 'The Children's Miracle Work Telethon, the NAMI Walkathon, the Super 60 Luncheon that I host with the Rotary Club. There's a lot of things I've had the chance to be a part of, and it's so cool to be recognized for that.' And after years of shining a light on others and the stories that shaped us, that light now shone on Rich, who is always 'working for you.' 'Always be empathetic to stories that are out there,' Tettemer said. 'You've got to remember that you are not just reading a news story and going on to the next one. Chicopee Fire Department promotes two officers to new ranks
CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – It was an exciting day in Chicopee on Wednesday for two members of the Chicopee Fire Department, as a new captain and lieutenant were sworn in and pinned. Nicholas Brown was promoted to the rank of captain, and Gregory Pray to the rank of lieutenant. Both of their families, as well as members from the fire department, were there to watch and celebrate their achievements. Chicopee celebrates Portuguese heritage with flag-raising ceremony 'We're going to have two more excellent officers who have done a great job through this process, and they are going to represent us really well,' said Chicopee Fire Captain Katie Collins-Kalbaugh. 'I'm so proud of my dad for becoming captain, because he has been practicing for this the whole time, and he's been really working for this, and we finally got him to be captain,' Captain Brown's daughter Mia said. 'Just to say, I am very proud of him.' 'I am very happy, because it makes us have happy tears,' said Captain Brown's daughter Olivia. Both the new captain and lieutenant completed the rigorous process, including studying for months, taking the assessment test, and completing an interview. Funeral services being held for Southwick beekeeper William Crawford
SOUTHWICK, Mass. (WWLP) – Calling hours are being held for a Southwick man who died in a crash while tending bees in Oregon, Ohio. William (Bill) Crawford III was the owner of New England Apiaries on Klaus Anderson Road in Southwick and was known for Billy C's Raw Honey. Last week, Crawford was operating a fork-style tractor in Oregon, Ohio, when he was struck by a vehicle. He was taken to the hospital for serious injuries, where he later died. Owner of Billy C's Raw Honey in Southwick died in Ohio crash According to his obituary from Graham Hilltown Community Funeral Home, 35-year-old Crawford was a graduate of Westfield High School, Holyoke Community College, Westfield State University, and the University of Florida/Jacksonville. In 2007, he started selling honey from a produce farm he worked for in Westfield before forming Pioneer Valley Apiary in what became New England Apiaries. Billy C's Raw Honey can be found on shelves at Big Y, which offered their condolences on Facebook Tuesday, saying, 'We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of our valued vendor partner, former employee and friend, Bill Crawford, owner of New England Apiaries, Home of Billy C's Raw Honey. Bill was a trusted collaborator whose professionalism, creativity and unwavering commitment made a lasting impact on our team and the work we accomplished together. Over the years, our partnership with Bill was marked by mutual respect, shared goals and a spirit of collaboration that we deeply cherished. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Bill's family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time. He will be greatly missed.' Crawford leaves behind his wife, Elaine, and five children. Calling hours are scheduled for Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at New Gospel Church on Union Street in Westfield. The funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. In addition, a memorial service will be held on June 20 at the Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church in Georgia.
