HC relief for IIT prof, spouse in cheating plaint
Hyderabad: An IIT-Hyderabad professor and her husband — working as scientific officer at a premier research institute under the dept of atomic energy — has been granted relief by the Telangana high court, after they sought legal recourse against cops for allegedly harassing them. They alleged Telangana CID, in the guise of investigating a USD 65,000 cheating case, had repeatedly summoned them to its office and even threatened them with arrest. The duo alleged that the investigation was conducted only based on an e-mail complaint from a US-based entrepreneur in April 2024. No FIR was lodged. He stated that he made the payment to the couple and their associate for the work — all of whom were shown as directors of an Indian company. Even as police started their investigation in the case, the couple dragged them to court. Disposing of their petition recently, the high court directed the police "not to interfere with the life and liberty" of the couple except in accordance with the law. The court passed the order after the police submitted to the court that the complaint against them was closed as it was "civil in nature". by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Could This NEW Collagen Blend Finally Reduce Your Cellulite? After brief exchange of fire, Maoists retreated into forests. Security personnel launched a search in the area and recovered a dump of arms and ammunition, that indicated Maoists were hatching a plan for an attack. The seizure included INSAS rifles, country made weapons, pistols, revolvers, magazines of AK-47, SLR, INSAS and .303, and live rounds along with explosives like detonators, pressure cooker IED, laptop, walkie talkie set and large quantity of medicines, literature of outlawed Maoist organization and daily use items. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The 5 Books Warren Buffett Recommends You To Read in 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Police said the recovery points to the presence of senior Maoist cadres in the area and that the camp was being used as a logistics hub. It's believed that Maoists sneak into dense forests of Gariaband which they use for rest, hiding weapons and a movement route from Chhattisgarh to bordering Odisha. IG Mishra said that the entire operation was carried out with strict coordination between state police and central forces. Officials said the seizure has dealt a serious blow to Maoist activities in Gariaband, and search operations are being further intensified in the region.
