India: PM Modi announces free e-visas to Filipinos during Marcos' visit

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced that India will be offering free e-visas to Filipino tourists, in a reciprocal move following the Philippines' decision to grant visa-free entry to Indian nationals. The announcement came during a joint press statement by Modi and Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr, who is currently on a five-day state visit to the country. During the event, both leaders agreed to enhance people-to-people ties and connectivity further. "We welcome the decision of the Philippines to grant visa-free entry to Indian tourists. India, in turn, has decided to extend the facility of free e-visas to tourists from the Philippines. Efforts will also be made to launch direct flights between Delhi and Manila within this year," PM Modi said. President Marcos highlighted the Philippines' recent visa-free policy for Indian citizens and thanking India for the reciprocal gesture. "I reiterated our introduction of visa-free entry privileges and extended our invitation for more Indian tourists to visit the Philippines. I thank Prime Minister Modi in turn for the introduction of a scheme to grant visas free of charge to Filipino tourists travelling to India. We welcome the resumption of direct flights from October this year and have renewed our commitment to sustaining and expanding such direct air connectivity," he stated. The Ministry of External Affairs also announced direct flights from Delhi to Manila, expected to commence operations from October 1 this year, in a significant step towards enhancing regional connectivity between India and the Philippines. PM Modi also expressed gratitude to the Philippines for strongly condemning the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam. "We welcome the Philippines' decision to join the International Fusion Centre established by India for the Indian Ocean Region. We express our sincere gratitude to the Government of the Philippines and to the President for strongly condemning the terrorist attack in Pahalgam and for standing with us in our fight against terrorism," the Prime Minister stated. President Marcos conveyed the solidarity of the Filipino people with India in the wake of the Pahalgam attack and reiterated the Philippines' firm stance against terrorism. "As emissaries of our people, I bring with me the enduring friendship of the Filipino nation. I carry the message of our solidarity with India, both over the tragic attack in Pahalgam earlier this year and in the broader fight against terrorism," President Marcos stated. This visit also marks a historic moment in India-Philippines relations, as the two countries announced the elevation of their ties to a Strategic Partnership as they celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations. Following their meeting, both leaders declared 13 wide-ranging agreements, with key pacts spanning defence, security, science and technology, tourism, digital cooperation, maritime collaboration, and cultural exchange. A statement of Intent was also exchanged between the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Philippine Space Agency, focused on collaboration in the peaceful uses of outer space.

Paris, Phuket top UAE travel bookings as residents opt for late-summer getaways

Paris and Phuket are the most-booked international destinations for August and September 2025 getaways from the UAE, according to recent data from dnata Travel. 'France tops the list of most-booked destinations for August and September 2025 getaways from the UAE, in line with its traditional peak travel period,' said Emily Jenkins, general manager of dnata Travel. 'Travel demand to the country continues to rise, with travel experts reporting increased interest across its cities and coastal retreats.' UAE's favourite international destinations Thailand followed closely behind, with Phuket ranking among the most sought-after destinations. 'Thailand has once again risen in popularity, and we are also seeing growth in demand for wider regions of the country beyond its islands, including Bangkok and the north,' Jenkins said. Rounding out the top five most-booked international destinations were the UK, Turkey, and the Maldives. 'A strong dirham and exclusive travel offers are driving bookings to the UK, alongside events including Premier League football matches and music concerts,' Jenkins said. 'The Maldives continues to be popular for relaxation, with short travel times and all-inclusive resort stays in demand.' dnata Travel said UAE travellers are increasingly seeking city breaks, beach getaways, and cooler climates in late summer, with Europe and Asia dominating the top ten destinations. 'Late summer is a popular time for UAE residents to travel, particularly for families making the most of the final weeks of school holidays,' Jenkins said. 'Cooler climates and easy beach escapes are trending for travel in August and September across city, island, and mountain locations.' The company said solo and group travel are trending, with solo travellers making up 22 per cent of total bookings. Larger family groups are also opting for private villa stays. Asia is seeing the highest overall growth in demand, with Japan and South Korea entering the top 20 most-booked destinations. In Europe, Switzerland and Italy have entered the top ten.

Asian Paints launches world's first internal curing concrete additive in UAE

Image: Asian Paints 'With CureAssure, we're not just launching a product; we're redefining a foundational step in construction. This innovation reflects our commitment to sustainable solutions that work in the real world,' said Joseph Eapen, CEO of Asian Paints. Joseph Eapen, CEO of Asian Paints Curing is one of the most critical but often overlooked phases in concrete construction, influencing structural strength and durability. In the Middle East, this step is frequently compromised by extreme temperatures, labour constraints, and compressed project timelines. These site challenges often result in shrinkage cracks and reduced long-term performance. Asian Paints' CureAssure addresses these issues by introducing internal curing directly into the concrete mix. The additive enables hydration to occur from within, eliminating the need for external water or surface curing compounds. This approach reduces plastic shrinkage and cracking, ensures greater durability, and guarantees consistency across varying site conditions. It also aligns the performance of on-site concrete with laboratory-tested standards — a vital requirement for real-world reliability. 'Developing CureAssure meant rethinking curing from the inside out,' said Amit DasGupta, chief senior manager – Technology, AP Global. 'Rather than treating symptoms on the surface, we focused on solving the root cause, by embedding water availability directly where it's needed. The result is a more robust, reliable concrete structure, regardless of the environment it's placed in.' CureAssure has received approval from Dubai Municipality and validation from ICC-ES. Free of hazardous substances, it is compatible with all types of Portland cement, pozzolanic blends, and both water-reducing (WR) and set-retarding (SR) admixtures. The additive meets globally recognised standards including ACI 308 guidelines for internal curing, ACI 318 structural durability provisions, ASTM C494/C494M Type S, and EN 934-2 European admixture compatibility norms. Aligned with the UAE Water Security Strategy 2036, CureAssure's elimination of external curing also removes the need for desalinated water in the construction process. Asian Paints estimates that the water saved annually could fill 3,200 Olympic-sized swimming pools, irrigate over 6,000 acres of desert farmland, or meet the monthly water needs of 450,000 households. The solution also contributes to low-carbon, zero-waste construction practices by reducing the need for water transport, on-site manpower, and curing-related emissions. With over 80 years of expertise in coatings and construction materials, Asian Paints is among the top two paint companies in Asia and operates 26 manufacturing plants across 15 countries. The launch of CureAssure represents a strategic expansion of its regional footprint and underscores the company's commitment to delivering smarter, safer, and more sustainable infrastructure solutions across the GCC.
