Man who made bomb threat while on plane bound for Abu Dhabi to be charged

SINGAPORE: A 22-year-old man who was arrested in February for allegedly making a bomb threat on an Abu Dhabi-bound flight is slated to be charged on Thursday (June 5).
The police said they were alerted on Feb 14 at 7.20pm to a social media post containing a threat to blow up an aircraft.
Through follow-up investigations, the police identified the man within an hour of the post and confirmed that he was on board a flight bound for Abu Dhabi.
The aircraft, which was already taxiing on the runway and about to take off, was recalled to Changi Airport Terminal 2, the police said in a statement on Wednesday (June 4).
The man was later arrested and investigations revealed that he allegedly posted 'No one here knows I'm going to blow the plane up' on his social media account, after he had boarded the aircraft.
It was later discovered that the man did not have any means to carry out his threat, as no threat items were discovered in his possession, the police said.
If found guilty, he may be jailed for up to seven years, fined up to S$50,000, or both. - The Straits Times/ANN

On June 2, Zhong and Huang Meiling approached one of the victims and led her to Huang Qinyan, who claimed to be a Chinese physician. The victim was told she was experiencing misfortune due to 'negative spiritual elements', the police said on June 6. To ward off misfortune, the woman was said to have handed $700 in cash and a gold necklace to Huang Qinyan, who placed the items in a plastic bag. Huang Qinyan performed a 'cleansing ritual' on the valuables, and the victim was told to keep the plastic bag, untouched, under her bed for a month. The woman checked the bag the next day and found that her valuables had been replaced with leaves. On June 4, the police received a report of another scam with a similar modus operandi. According to the police, the second victim was approached by two of the accused and convinced to place an envelope with cash into a black rubbish bag for safekeeping. She later discovered that her money had gone missing. Police investigations found that Huang Ximing was working together with the three women to cheat the victims. All four were arrested on June 5. Cambodian troops deploy 12,000 soldiers near Chong Bok border: Source
PHNOM PENH: Cambodia has mobilised 12,000 troops to reinforce its presence along the Thai-Cambodian border in the Chong Bok area of Ubon Ratchathani province, a source from local security agencies said on Friday (June 6). According to the source, military personnel and heavy weaponry have been continuously deployed since tensions escalated between Thai and Cambodian forces at Ta Moan Thom Temple, located near Surin's Phanom Dong Rak district, in February. Following the initial conflict, Cambodia increased its military presence in Chong Bok, stationing over 10,000 troops and reinforcing its arsenal. However, after clashes in the area that resulted in the death of a Cambodian soldier, an additional 3,000 troops were deployed, bringing the total number of Cambodian forces in Chong Bok to 12,000. These troops are now spread across strategic locations, including Hill 745, Hill 641, and the Mom Bei (Tri Muk Pavilion) area. She said this during the launch of the BELIA BRUNAS Programme and a Youth Environmental Leader Recognition Ceremony to commemorate World Environment Day celebration yesterday. She added, 'On June 5 every year, the global community including Brunei Darussalam celebrates World Environment Day which aims to raise public awareness about the importance of protecting the environment and encourage action from all levels of society to protect the environment and maintain its sustainability. The theme for this year's World Environment Day celebration is 'Beat Plastic Pollution'.' For decades, she stressed, 'plastics have contributed positively to almost every aspect of modern life such as in medicine and health, transportation, food, information technology and even leisure activities. However, the very durable nature of plastics that makes them so useful also makes them almost impossible to decompose naturally, causing pollution. In addition, the way plastics are produced, used and disposed by some who are not sensitive or lack knowledge of the importance of protecting the environment also has a negative impact.' She also introduced the BELIA BRUNAS Programme, a dedicated platform designed to empower youth in Brunei Darussalam to participate in impactful and long-term activities that contribute meaningfully to the country's environmental sustainability. Launched by the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe) under the Ministry of Development, the programme is divided into two phases: Phase 1, named the YouLEARn Programme, short for 'Youth Learn, Empower and Advocate for a Resilient Environment', and Phase 2, the YouGAIN Programme, an acronym for 'Youth Green Actions for Innovation'.
