Saudi Arabia, Bahrain bolster security ties at fourth Security Coordination Committee meeting

JEDDAH — Saudi Minister of Interior Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud and Bahraini Minister of Interior Lieutenant General Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa co-chaired the fourth meeting of the Security Coordination Committee, a subcommittee under the Saudi-Bahraini Coordination Council, held at the Ministry of Interior headquarters in Jeddah.
The meeting reviewed key security issues of mutual interest, with the objective of enhancing performance and bolstering cooperation to address emerging security challenges amid regional and global developments.
Discussions highlighted several achievements, including joint efforts to curb the spread of extremist ideology among youth, strengthened cooperation in cybersecurity, the successful linking of the two nations' main operations rooms, and the completion of the first phase of initiatives facilitating citizen travel through airports.
Prince Abdulaziz emphasized that the meeting marks an important step forward in enhancing bilateral security cooperation.
He praised the progress achieved by working groups from both sides in implementing committee initiatives, noting that these efforts are crucial for promoting joint security operations and providing additional facilities and services for citizens of both countries.
Bahraini Minister Sheikh Rashid stressed that 'the security of the two brotherly nations is indivisible,' reaffirming the commitment to a long-term strategic security partnership.
He lauded the qualitative progress made in previous periods across various security sectors and commended the working groups' role in advancing cooperation and coordination projects.

The Air Force provides advanced air support, including surveillance, reconnaissance, and securing the airspace over the holy sites. The Naval Forces participate in securing seaports, dealing with suspicious materials, and supporting rescue efforts through diving teams, in addition to contributing specialized infantry and drone units. Regarding health services, the Ministry of Defense is implementing an integrated medical plan that includes the operation of 36 health centers with a capacity of more than 1,040 beds, supported by a mission of over 1,790 health and administrative personnel distributed across hospitals and field clinics in the holy sites.

He warned that random group walking poses a significant threat to the flow of crowds and the safety of pilgrims. The minister made the remarks during a meeting with heads of Hajj missions from various countries, held on the sidelines of the 49th Grand Hajj Symposium, which concluded in Jeddah on Sunday. Al-Rabiah directed the Hajj affairs offices to strictly follow regulations with regard to the movement of pilgrims within the holy sites, emphasizing pilgrims' safety and optimal ritual performance. The minister emphasized the importance of using designated transportation from Arafat to Muzdalifah rather than walking. He stressed that dispatch and transport plans are essential for organizing crowd movement and guaranteeing safety, deeming adherence a collective responsibility. Al-Rabiah underscored the pivotal role of the Nusuk card, mandating its use for accessing the Grand Mosque, holy sites, or public transportation. He affirmed the card is now a key regulatory tool for performing rituals and preventing violations. The minister said that this year will see a significant intensification of Hajj permit verification to ensure pilgrim safety and a complete Hajj experience, all within meticulous organization befitting the sanctity and grandeur of the occasion.
