We hit 44 in our Raiders countdown to kickoff. Who wore it best and who's wearing it now
No. 44
Who's wearing it now: LB Tommy Eichenberg
Eichenberg enters his second season with the Raiders. The Ohio State alum was selected in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He appeared in 14 games as a rookie, starting one game and compiling 13 combined tackles. He did most of his work on special teams, seeing 313 snaps there (79%). This offseason he has often been lining up with the second team alongside rookie Cory Lindenberg.
Who wore it best: RB Marv Hubbard
Hubbard's time with the Raiders snuck right between their first trip to the Super Bowl and their second. Because his first season with the team was 1969 -- two years after their appearance in Super Bowl II -- and 1975 -- the year before their first Super Bowl win in 1976. But those were successful years for the Raiders and for Hubbard. He went to three Pro Bowls and the Raiders were in the playoffs six of those seven seasons. It was just terrible luck that he suffered a shoulder injury that knocked him out all of the 1976 season. But he still received a Super Bowl ring from the Raiders.

Seahawks extend GM John Schneider through 2031 NFL season
The Seattle Seahawks have extended general manager John Schneider through the 2031 season, the team announced on Wednesday. Schneider has held the GM position since 2010. He added the role of executive vice president in 2013 and the title of president of football operations in 2024. The extension comes two years before Schneider's previous deal was set to expire in 2027. He is currently the longest tenured general manager in franchise history. Schneider arrived in Seattle in January 2010 after Pete Carroll was hired as the coach and executive vice president of football operations. Schneider had previously worked with the team as the director of player personnel in 2000. His first tenure in Seattle succeeded three years as a scout for the Green Bay Packers and three years as the director of pro personnel with the Kansas City Chiefs. He then served in personnel-related roles with the Washington Redskins and Packers before returning to Seattle. Schneider and Carroll helped the Seahawks win Super Bowl XLVIII in February 2014 when Seattle defeated the Denver Broncos, 43-8, in New Jersey. According to the Seattle Times, the extension was a result of a strong vote of confidence for Schneider to help keep stability atop the Seahawks organization. The search for stability follows massive changes in recent years, including the trades of stars Russell Wilson, Geno Smith and DK Metcalf. The Seahawks also moved on from Carroll after the 2023 season and replaced him with Mike Macdonald. The Seahawks have not made the playoffs since their wild-card appearance in 2022. Last season, they finished second in the NFC West with a 10-7 record. Seattle's notable offseason moves include signing quarterback Sam Darnold, wide receiver Cooper Kupp and defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence. They also re-signed linebacker Ernest Jones IV and defensive tackle Jarran Reed.

Seahawks general manager John Schneider gets contract extension through 2031
SEATTLE (AP) — Seattle Seahawks general manager and president of football operations John Schneider signed a contract extension through the 2031 season on Wednesday. Schneider is the longest-tenured GM in franchise history, having held the job since 2010. The Seahawks did not disclose terms of the deal. 'The extension of general manager John Schneider's contract is a testament to his 15-plus years of football leadership and success,' Seahawks owner Jody Allen said in a statement. 'I am confident that John will continue to deliver real results and a continued strong partnership with head coach Mike Macdonald that is already contributing to our winning culture on and off the field.' The 54-year-old Schneider first joined the Seahawks in 2000 as director of player personnel, and then returned to the franchise in 2010 as GM and executive vice president. Seattle made the playoffs in Schneider's first season and won the Super Bowl in his fourth. During Schneider's time as GM, the Seahawks have compiled the sixth-best record in the NFL at 147-96-1 and have won 10 or more games in nine of the past 13 seasons. Seattle has made the playoffs 10 times in 15 seasons and has won five NFC West titles and two conference championships under Schneider. ___ AP NFL:

Ohio State football duo named to the 2025 Thorpe preseason watch list
We've got a couple of more Ohio State football players that landed on a preseason watch list on Wednesday, and this time it's the Jim Thorpe Award. The Thorpe Award was first handed out in 1986 and is one of the most prestigious awards in college football. It goes to the best defensive back in college football annually and is voted on by the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame. The Buckeyes have only had two players take home the Thorpe Award, and it's been a while. Antoine Winfield won the award in 1998, with Malcom Jenkins taking it home a decade later in 2008. You have to like Ohio State's chances in 2025 because one of the players appearing on the preseason watch list is safety Caleb Downs. His accolades speak for themself, but he's widely known as the best defender and defensive back heading into the country. The other Buckeye appearing on the list of 35 names is cornerback Davison Igbinosun. The 6-foot-2-inch. long and rangy corner will be entering his senior season in Columbus after transferring from Ole Miss after his sophomore season. He's played in all 29 games since coming to the banks of the Olentangy and led the team with 11 passes defended (9 pass breakups and two interceptions). After being narrowed down to three finalists, the Thorpe Award will be announced on December 12 during the Home Depot College Football Awards show.
