Golden State Warriors release an All-Star themed album
The Golden State Warriors have released a new album with notable Bay Area hip-hop artists including P-Lo, E-40, Too $hort and G-Eazy.
Why it matters: The Warriors are the first and only NBA franchise with a record label, Golden State Entertainment (GSE).
What they're saying: GSE creator and Warriors' Chief Legal Officer, David Kelly, says the Warriors are trying to build a brand that transcends sports.
"To me, it was more striking that it hadn't been done then, that it should be done," Kelly, a former rapper himself, tells Axios.
"We look for artists who represent ideals, represent the Bay Area in a positive way, but still are very much authentically part of the culture... and give them the platform that we have."
Zoom in: "For the Soil" is a nine-track project led by Paolo Rodriguez aka P-Lo, who hails from Pinole. It's a collaboration between GSE and independent label Empire.
"The Bay Area music scene has always been rich and we've always done our own thing, I'm so happy that GSE is backing all this and allowing us this opportunity to really showcase who we are," Rodriguez tells Axios.
Our thought bubble: The feature-packed song " Players Holiday '25," is the quintessential ballad to the Bay and life-long Warriors fans.
The album is streaming now.

Eminem Sues Meta For $109 Million — But Why?
Eminem may have loved the way people lied years ago, but he doesn't love the way people steal. The 52-year-old rapper is suing Meta for $109 million due to copyright infringement. E! News obtained court documents showing that the lawsuit was filed on May 30. Eight Mile Style, Slim Shady's publishing company, claims that Meta violated the copyright of 243 songs within the Detroit rapper's catalog via 'unauthorized storage, reproduction and exploitation' on their platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and more. They cited specific features such as Original Audio and Reels, which 'allow and encourage its users to steal' his music to then utilize in their video content 'without proper attribution or license.' The 15-time Grammy winner is seeking $109 million in damages, which is the result of allocating $150,000 in damages to each song that is being illegally used. Meta has not commented on the lawsuit. Eminem has had a strong year, with his July 2024 album The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce) debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and selling 281,000 album-equivalent units in its first week. The album featured JID, Big Sean, Babytron, Jelly Roll, and Skylar Grey. He followed up with the deluxe in September, adding 'Kyrie & Luka' with 2 Chainz and 'Fuel – Shady Edition' with Westside Boogie and Grip. Last month, Eminem shared the 25th anniversary edition of The Marshall Mathers LP, which included live versions of 'The Real Slim Shady' and 'The Way I Am' from the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. Slim Shady has also been active on the feature front, joining longtime collaborators Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre and 50 Cent on 'Gunz N Smoke' in December 2024. Bay Area legend gets the national spotlight on NPR's ‘Tiny Desk' concert series
E-40 is commemorating the 30th anniversary of his breakthrough album, 'In A Major Way,' in — well, a major way. The Vallejo rapper recently made an appearance on NPR's 'Tiny Desk,' bringing the sounds of the hyphy movement to the nation's capital to help kick off Black Music Month. During the nearly 30-minute performance on the popular YouTube concert series, released Monday, June 2, E-40 delivered hits from across his discography — from 1994's 'Captain Save a Hoe' to 2006's 'U and Dat' and 2014's 'Choices (Yup)' — while backed by a live band. A pioneer in the Bay Area rap scene who played a significant role in popularizing the hyphy movement, a style of uptempo, 'hyperactive' hip-hop music, E-40 was invited to join former President Joe Biden during a post-debate rally, performed at the NBA All-Star Game when it was held in San Francisco earlier this year and even has a road in his hometown named after him. Most recently, he spent Memorial Day weekend in Wine Country for two BottleRock Napa Valley performances. He also filmed a still-to-be-released episode of the ABC game show 'Celebrity Family Feud' alongside fellow Bay Area rapper Too Short and Atlanta rapper Lil Jon. Season 12 of the show is set to premiere July 10. E-40's guest performance comes shortly after San Lorenzo native Ruby Ibarra performed on the NPR show, after winning the 2025 'Tiny Desk' contest in May. Ibarra beat out nearly 7,500 other artist submissions with a performance of her latest single, 'Bakunawa.' As her prize, she got to film an intimate ' Tiny Desk' concert, released Thursday, May 29, and is now set to headline 'Tiny Desk' contest's On The Road Tour, which begins Wednesday, June 11, at the Regent Theater in Los Angeles. Meanwhile, E-40 is also planning some live performances following his 'Tiny Desk' concert. He is set to headline the fifth annual Mare Island Dock of Bay Festival in his hometown of Vallejo on Sept. 6. Other local rappers such as LaRussell, Baby Bash and Con Funk Shun are also scheduled to perform.

Report: Rockets, Ime Udoka won't entertain interest from Knicks
Report: Rockets, Ime Udoka won't entertain interest from Knicks The Knicks reportedly have interest in Ime Udoka, but it seems neither the Rockets nor Houston's head coach has interest in New York. With a sudden coaching vacancy, the New York Knicks reportedly have interest in Ime Udoka. But that interest doesn't seem to be reciprocated by either the Rockets or Houston's head coach. 'Regarding reports identifying Ime Udoka as a possible target for the vacant Knicks coaching position, Houston has no interest in entertaining that,' The Athletic's Kelly Iko writes, citing a team source. 'Both parties are committed to the long-term project and are actively preparing for a busy offseason.' As things stand, Udoka is midway through a four-year contract that he signed in April 2023 to coach the Rockets. Thus, the Knicks and Rockets would need to come to some sort of compensation agreement in order for Udoka to be let out of his existing deal, and it doesn't seem there's any interest from the Houston side in exploring that. The Rockets have improved significantly in Udoka's two seasons with the team, and he just finished third in 2024-25 NBA Coach of the Year voting. He's under contract for multiple seasons moving forward and is viewed internally as a foundational piece. Thus, there is zero interest from Houston in parting ways. From a practical standpoint, the interest from the Knicks could perhaps be used by Udoka and his representatives in eventual talks regarding a contract extension. Salaries for NBA coaches have risen in the two-plus years since Udoka signed his initial deal with the Rockets, and coaches rarely enter the final 'lame duck' year of their contracts. Thus, at some point prior to the 2026-27 season, it's likely that Udoka and the Rockets will enter into a new round of negotiations. In that negotiating context, interest from other teams around the league can build up Udoka's market, and it helps to be publicly viewed as desirable. But there remain no indications that he wants to leave Houston, and the team certainly wants to keep him around, as well. Though the Knicks (51-31) made it to the conference finals in a weaker Eastern Conference, they actually had a worse record than the Rockets (52-30), even with Houston facing a tougher West schedule. Combine that with Houston having a younger roster with more room for internal improvement and a better future draft outlook, and it would seem that the Rockets are the superior situation from a basketball standpoint, as well.
