SGSITS comes up with industry-aligned training programmes under Rishta scheme

Time of India24-05-2025
Indore: Shri Govindram Seksaria Institute of Technology and Science (SGSITS) will launch short-term training and undergraduate certificate programmes in emerging technologies under the Madhya Pradesh govt's Rising Skill for Holistic Technical Advancement (Rishta) scheme.
Aimed at enhancing technical education and employability, the courses are expected to be launched by mid-June.
The college is working on collaborating with leading industries, corporate organisations, and training agencies to introduce the programmes. They will cover high-demand fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, data science, cybersecurity, electric vehicles, 3D printing, IoT, embedded systems, and more.
The unique aspect of this initiative is that students from other institutions, not just SGSITS, will also be eligible to enrol.
"This initiative will not only benefit students but also fulfil the industry's demand for skilled professionals. It's a win-win situation for both students and industries alike. Students will be charged nominal fees depending on the course module," said dean of academics research and skill development at SGSITS Prof Lalit Purohit
The Rishta scheme, spearheaded by Madhya Pradesh department of technical education and skill development, aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry needs by equipping students with practical, job-oriented skills.
To implement this vision, SGSITS plans to partner with renowned companies that will assist in course design and deliver training through their domain experts.
The training modules will include classroom instruction, hands-on practical sessions, project-based learning, and internship certifications. Top-performing students may also be offered job opportunities by the participating companies, which in turn benefit by gaining access to a skilled talent pool.
Short-term courses ranging from 10 to 40 credits will be conducted in evenings or on weekends, making them accessible to a broader group of learners. Each credit will equate to 15 hours of training. Some courses may be delivered online, while others will be held on campus or at industry locations. The full-time undergraduate certificate programmes will require a minimum of 40 credits.

Vizhinjam port to introduce new mooring system for safer and faster ship docking

T hiruvananthapuram: Vizhinjam port is set to introduce a dynamic mooring system known as shore tension system to prevent ships from being caught in surges and sway while docked. A port official stated that the machinery would arrive from the Netherlands in a few days and would be deployed within a month. "The company that brings and installs the machinery will train staff here to handle it," the official said. The system will automatically adjust the tension of the mooring lines used to tie ships to the berth, counteracting the pressure from waves and surges. It also reduces stress on the mooring lines connected to the ships. Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), whose ships predominantly use the port, had recommended the system. This will mark the first installation of such a facility in an Indian port. The shore tension system will also aid in speeding up the loading and unloading of containers and reduce the turnaround time of ships. "As unloading of containers is carried out in a semi-automated manner, the stability of the ships is important," the official added. The port will also be able to accommodate more ships as they can be berthed closer than usual and unloading operations need not be delayed during rough seas or strong winds. The introduction of the modern technology will also facilitate faster movement of containers when exim operations (international trade) commence by the end of the year. Sources said that initially the shore tension system would be trialled for the exim operations. Currently, ships are tied manually using heavy ropes to the mooring points in the berth. The machine-assisted system will maintain the ropes' integrity and prevent snapping under pressure, ensuring safety. As of last month, the port has handled over 392 ships, including 23 ultra-large container vessels and has handled 8.36 lakh containers. TN govt will not let down sanitary workers: Stalin

Chennai: At a cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister M K Stalin on Thursday, it was decided to implement a slew of welfare measures for sanitary workers including free breakfast, life insurance and a health scheme. After the meeting, Stalin posted on social media that DMK will not let down the sanitary workers. The announcement comes in the wake of a 13-day protest by sanitary workers against privatization and govt facing flak for their midnight arrest. Explaining the six new initiatives for the welfare of sanitary workers, finance minister Thangam Thennarasu said that life insurance with a coverage of 5lakh would be provided in addition to the existing monetary aid provided by sanitary workers welfare board, taking the total compensation to around 10lakh per family. Also, a 6% interest subsidy for timely loan repayment will be provided," Thennarasu told reporters after the meeting. A sum of 10crore will be allocated annually for this. State will implement a higher education scholarship scheme for the workers' children, covering tuition, hostel, and book fees, he said. "A scheme to diagnose and treat lung and skin diseases among sanitary workers will also be implemented," he said. "To ensure houses for all sanitary workers, 30,000 new housing units for urban workers will be built within 3 years. For rural workers, housing will be allocated on a priority basis under 'Kalaignar Kanavu Illam'," he said. Thennarasu said govt will provide free breakfast for workers in urban local bodies to ensure food for those who start work early in the morning. The scheme will begin in Greater Chennai Corporation and then extend across state. "Dravidian model govt will continue to work tirelessly for the welfare of sanitary workers who toil round the clock in all weather conditions. Over the past four years, several welfare schemes have been implemented for their benefit, and govt will consider their other legitimate demands," Stalin posted on X.
