Shell denies report of BP takeover talks
Shell has denied it is in talks with BP over a possible takeover of its smaller rival. The Wall Street Journal, citing a number of sources, reported on Wednesday evening that discussions between the two UK-based energy firms were at an early stage but active. The US publication added that BP was considering the approach. Money latest: Its story was published soon after the London Stock Exchange had closed for the day, but US-listed depository shares in BP were 10% up in New York shortly after publication while those for Shell were down. However, Shell responded to the story by telling Sky News: "This is further market speculation. No talks are taking place." "As we have said many times before, we are sharply focused on capturing the value of Shell through continuing to focus on performance, discipline and simplification." The rally for BP shares fell back in the wake of the statement. BP declined to comment. The company has been widely seen as a possible takeover target for years as its market value has lagged growth of industry peers. It was valued at nearly £59bn as of Wednesday while Shell had a market capitalisation of over £153bn. The gulf between them has widened since 2020 when BP, under-then chief executive Bernard Looney, embarked on a fundamental shift towards a green energy future. The lofty ambitions were slowly chipped away following record leaps in oil and natural gas costs in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Much of the strategy was overturned in a reset by current boss Murray Auchincloss in February this year, under pressure from shareholders. BP's debt pile has been seen as a potential barrier to takeover interest.

Nothing's bare-bones gallery app scores a major upgrade as Phone 3 launch draws closer
C. Scott Brown / Android Authority TL;DR Nothing has rolled out a significant update for its native gallery app. The update introduces new editing tools for cropping, color grading, and adding filters to images. Nothing Gallery now also features a native video editor that lets you trim clips, adjust volume, and adjust slow-mo video speed. Nothing introduced a native gallery app to its devices with Nothing OS 3.0 last year, offering users an alternative to third-party gallery apps like Google Photos. The app was pretty barebones at launch, featuring a minimal interface and basic photo management tools. Now, Nothing is rolling out a major update that brings some much-needed image and video manipulation tools. Nothing CEO Carl Pei announced the update on X earlier today, highlighting all the included changes. For starters, the Nothing Gallery update brings tools for basic image adjustments, including six cropping and rotation tools. It also introduces a color grading option with twelve tuning parameters and ten Nothing-design filters with intensity adjustments. Nothing has also baked in a basic video editor that lets you trim clips, adjust the volume, and tweak slow-mo video speed. Both the image and video editors have fairly minimalistic interfaces, with tools split across three tabs in the former and two in the latter. Each tool offers subtle haptic feedback for an intuitive user experience. The Nothing Gallery update even brings some performance improvements, with Nothing claiming that transitioning 'from the camera to Gallery is now over 20% faster, with image processing up to 25% quicker.' Additionally, Nothing has introduced AI-powered photo categorization and a unified visual experience that looks more native to Nothing OS. The Nothing Gallery update will begin rolling out via the Google Play Store today, and it should reach all eligible devices by tomorrow. It arrives as Nothing is gearing up to launch its first true flagship, the Nothing Phone 3. The company is expected to announce the device early next month alongside a new pair of headphones. Apple Sports App Gets Tennis and More Updates
Apple continues to expand its sports offerings for mobile users. On Wednesday, the company announced new updates to the Apple Sports app that include a revamped home screen and the addition of tennis ahead of the Wimbledon championships. All the changes were launched on the app today. This tennis season, you can check out live scores (or from past tournament rounds) for men's and women's matches. Apple Sports will allow you to track points and player advancement throughout events like Grand Slam or Wimbledon. Though the app doesn't currently offer the ability to follow individual players, tournament information can be showcased on the home display if you add and customize the tennis options. Sports fans will notice that the home screen is now organized by whichever leagues you keep up with. For example, if you follow MLB, you'll see a more personalized display for your favorite teams, with game stats for yesterday, today, and information for any upcoming events. If you're following multiple sports and leagues, -- including tennis -- you can re-order which ones show up first on your screen and the app will adapt to your preferences.
