Metro22-05-2025

Elon Musk's X has crashed in what appears to be a global outage – more than two years after he spent $44 billion on the social network.
People across the world are reporting outages, with timelines refusing to load, and tweets and messages vanishing.
Problems started to ripple across the platform at approximately 6.54pm, based on data from Downdetector.
As of 8.15pm, more than 632 users have reported issues with the social media site, and it appears that most features have been affected.
Internet observatory Netblocks.org confirmed X is currently experiencing international outages, adding that the incident is not related to internet disruptions or filtering in a specific country.

Elon Musk's sister Tosca cashes in on Trump feud in bizarre X-rated silver

Elon Musk 's sister found an unexpected silver lining amid the escalating feud between her brother and Donald Trump - a surge in traffic to her streaming platform. The once-cozy bromance between the world's richest and most powerful men unraveled on Thursday, as Musk called for Trump's impeachment over his ties to Jeffrey Epstein - prompting the president to suggest deporting the SpaceX CEO. But Tosca Musk, sister of the billionaire and founder of steamy streaming platform Passionflix, seemed to seize the moment on X, cashing in on the viral feud and promoting her new series. 'Due to the massive influx of viewers today on Passionflix the app is down,' Tosca shared to X on Thursday afternoon. 'Stay with us, we're working on it!' she added, accompanied by a few emojis. 'Black Dagger Brotherhood!' Tosca runs Passionflix, a streaming platform dedicated to film adaptions of erotic romance novels, where she also serves as a director and producer on many of its steamy projects, as reported by IMBD. 'Stories for women should be told by women. That's what we do,' Tosca, speaking about the platform, told the outlet in December. 'I want to make sure that that the stories are told for the female gaze,' she added. The once-cozy bromance between the world's richest and most powerful men unraveled on Thursday, as Musk called for Trump's impeachment over ties to Jeffrey Epstein - prompting the president to suggest deporting the SpaceX CEO 'There is a delicate touch that I want to see in our movies, and I want women to tell those stories.' Within the same hour, the 50-year-old filmmaker announced on X that the site was back up and running, allowing romance fans to resume binging Black Dagger Brotherhood - a new series based on J.R. Ward's bestselling paranormal romance novels. This isn't the first time Passionflix has experienced shifting viewership, often rising or falling in step with Elon's high-profile actions, especially during periods when he was closely aligned with the White House. Earlier this year, Tosca faced a wave of backlash on her erotic film site after critics on the left accused her brother of making a 'Nazi salute'. In January, she was in the audience with their mother Maye at Trump's inauguration, where Elon quickly drew backlash over his controversial 'salute' to the crowd at the Capital One arena. Musk made light of the controversy, but Tosca's site began receiving furious comments. 'Don't shop at Naziflix,' one angry commenter wrote on its Facebook page. Another said: 'Good Luck finding any actors who want to take part in your movies Tosca Musk, you and your family are disgusting.' 'STOP SUPPORTING PASSIONFLIX TOSCA IS A NAZI LOVER LIKE HER BROTHER READ WHAT SHE WROTE ON X' wrote a third. Another commented: 'Is this the Nazi's sister?' Passionflix was launched by Tosca in 2017. Though the exact number of subscribers isn't publicly released, they offer a monthly subscription for $5.99 or a Signature Membership for $125 a year. Previously the president has stood by Elon during high-profile moments like this, but their alliance appears to have dramatically unraveled this week following the SpaceX CEO's public opposition to Trump's 'big, beautiful bill'. On Tuesday, Elon posted on his social media platform that the bill was an 'abomination' and went on to urge Senators to 'kill the bill' on Wednesday. Two White House officials familiar with the matter told a Reuters reporter that Trump expressed confusion and frustration in the meeting about Elon's attacks on his sweeping tax and spending bill on Wednesday. But the president held back, the officials said, because he wanted to preserve Elon's political and financial support ahead of the midterm elections. However, by Thursday afternoon, Trump's mood had shifted and an all out war of words began which led to Musk accusing Trump of blocking the Epstein files' release because appears in them. With each post, the spat became yet more virulent - until Elon dropped a new allegation which could one day prove to be the catalyst leading to the downfall of Trump - his connection to pedophile Jeffrey Epstein (pictured left) Musk's Tesla stock has been down 29.5 percent so far this year - but notably, 14 percent of that drop came in the immediate aftermath of Elon's online clash with the president, who also threatened to end his lucrative federal contracts, Reuters reported. When asked for comment, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told the Daily Mail in a statement: 'This is an unfortunate episode from Elon, who is unhappy with the One Big Beautiful Bill because it does not include the policies he wanted'. 'The President is focused on passing this historic piece of legislation and making our country great again,' she added.

From banning X to funding Dems: All the ways Musk and Trump could hurt each other as they go nuclear

An alliance between the two most powerful men in the world seemed destined to blow up into a volatile feud yet somehow held ... until it didn't. Within a few hours on Thursday, the public spat between Donald Trump and Elon Musk exploded into debates over the president's impeachment, calls to launch primary challengers against Republican allies in Congress, and Musk's accusation that the president is implicated in a sexual abuse scandal. But how they choose to escalate from here could have far-reaching impacts — and not just for the fate of a massive bill that sparked their breakup. Trump and Musk command the world's attention, own competing social media platforms, and are each in a position to wield the power of the presidency and spend, and lose, billions of dollars against one another. How Trump could go after Musk Kill government contracts Trump has already suggested yanking government contracts for Musk's companies Tesla and SpaceX, which are due to receive at least $3 billion in contracts from 17 agencies. 'The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon's Governmental Subsidies and Contracts,' Trump wrote on Truth Social. On his War Room podcast, Trump ally Steve Bannon urged Trump to retaliate against the world's wealthiest man by, among other things, using the Defense Production Act to take control of SpaceX. 'The U.S. government should seize it,' Bannon said Thursday. Cut off Elon's access to the White House Musk ended his 130-day 'special government employee' term in the Trump administration last week after serving as an 'adviser' to the president for the so-called Department of Government Efficiency, which Musk unleashed across the federal government to make drastic cuts to spending and the workforce. But Trump left the door open for Musk to return. That 130-day term can be renewed next year. Trump could sever that arrangement at any time. Bannon also called on Trump to strip Musk's top-secret clearances, which he is granted in conjunction with his work on SpaceX and NASA. Make X illegal With more than 220 million followers on a social media platform under his control, Musk can use that audience and ability to shift media narratives against the president to advance his agenda. Trump, whose entire campaign was built on retribution, possesses executive authority to shut X down, according to experts. Trump could declare X a national security risk, 'which would permit him to ban the platform outright,' claims Devan Leos with AI platform Undetectable AI. The president could invoke the International Emergency Economic Powers Act on national security grounds to prevent X from operating, which would likely trigger a high-profile legal battle. 'Musk now faces a difficult choice. He can ban Trump from X in retaliation, but that would almost certainly trigger an executive response from the White House,' according to Leos. The president, meanwhile, owns more than 100 million shares, or roughly 53 per cent, of Trump Media & Technology Group, the parent company of social media platform Truth Social. His stake in the company is worth billions of dollars. Investigate Musk's immigration status and drug use Musk was born in South Africa before he emigrated to Canada and later the United States. Last year, The Washington Post reported that the billionaire worked in the country illegally before gaining citizenship. Bannon called on the president to deport him. 'Elon Musk is illegal. He's got to go too,' Bannon said on his War Room podcast. Trump also could wield the power of his office to initiate other investigations under a Department of Justice controlled by his fierce ally Attorney General Pam Bondi, including into allegations of his drug use at the campaign trail and within the administration. How Musk could go after Trump Flood opponents with cash The world's wealthiest person spent tens of millions of dollars supporting Trump's 2024 campaign. On Thursday, he took credit for his victory. But this year, his multimillion-dollar effort to support a conservative Wisconsin Supreme Court candidate blew up in his face, with his DOGE efforts tanking his — and Tesla's — appeal. Still, Republican candidates fear being his target. Musk and his allies have threatened to fund primary challenges against any GOP member of Congress who supports legislation he doesn't. 'Is it time to create a new political party in America that actually represents the 80 percent in the middle?' Musk asked on Thursday. Democrats agree with Musk that Trump's 'big, beautiful bill' is a disaster but aren't necessarily welcoming him to the party after the right-wing billionaire torched government agencies and helped but Trump back in office. 'We should ultimately be trying to convince him that the Democratic Party has more of the values that he agrees with,' California Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna, whose district represents Silicon Valley, told Politico. 'A commitment to science funding, a commitment to clean technology, a commitment to seeing international students like him.' Liam Kerr, co-founder of the centrist WelcomeFest meeting underway in Washington during the Trump-Musk feud, told the outlet that 'of course' Democrats should be open to Musk. 'You don't want anyone wildly distorting your politics, which he has a unique capability to do. But it's a zero-sum game,' Kerr told Politico. 'Anything that he does that moves more toward Democrats hurts Republicans.' Wield social media against the president It took just four hours for a feud playing out on two different social media platforms for Musk to drop what he called a 'bomb' against the president. 'Time to drop the really big bomb,' he wrote on X. '[Trump] is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public.' That loaded accusation — Musk's suggestion that Trump was involving the sex offender's trafficking scheme — appeared to be the tipping point in their feud. Musk, who just days ago seemed to have no problem associating with a man he is now alleging is implicated in Epstein's crimes, could launch a humiliation campaign against the president for an audience that has been largely disappointed with the Trump administration's approach to the Epstein case. Far-right influencers have turned on top federal law enforcement officials over the case, accusing Trump of continuing what they believe is a 'deep state' conspiracy theory covering up powerful people. Musk could leverage that hostility. Use DOGE against Trump Musk hired a small army of young loyalists and old allies for his government-wide operation to not only eliminate jobs and spending but extract reams of data from millions of Americans. DOGE's unprecedented access to Americans' data 'is alarming, made worse by the complete absence of meaningful oversight,' according to Ben Zipperer, a senior economist with the Economic Policy Institute. 'That unrestrained access to data will likely worsen the problem of identity theft in the United States, which could cost working families tens of billions of dollars annually.' A report from Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren's office also uncovered more than 100 instances that Musk allegedly abused his role as a 'special government employee' overseeing DOGE to benefit his private interests. Musk violated 'norms at an astonishing pace,' amounting to 'scandalous behavior regardless of whether it subjects him to criminal prosecution.' The report accuses Musk of using the government to promote his businesses, including turning the White House lawn into a Tesla showroom, and allegedly discovered roughly two dozen instances where the government 'entered or explored new lucrative contracts' with the billionaire while halting enforcement actions against his companies.

Father's Day gift ideas for gamer dads Keychron K2 HE keyboard Keychron's latest offering is perfect for gamer dads, particularly because it doesn't really look like a gaming keyboard! Its sleek, classic and smart design won't look out of place in an office environment, with natural rosewood featured along the side being a really nice and unique design touch. But don't be fooled, because the K2 HE features Gateron double-rail magnetic switches, with customisable actuation points and dynamic rapid triggers, as well as SA profile double-shot PBT keycaps, making it perfect for sweaty gaming sessions too! It also has multiple connectivity options, including 2.4 GHz wireless, Bluetooth 5.1, and wired, and is compatible with macOS, Windows, and Linux. A superb keyboard for office and gaming use. Keychron K2 HE Wireless Magnetic Switch Custom Keyboard - £153.99 Razer USB 4 Dock Okay, I know what you're thinking, a USB dock? But trust me, and I speak from experience here, dads can't have enough ports on their PCs. And this isn't just any USB dock, this is the daddy of all USB docks. It features 14 ports, including a MicroSD and SD Card slot, Microphone Headphone Combo Port (supports 7.1 surround), USB Type C 3.2 Gen 2 (with battery charging 20W), USB A 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gb/s), upstream USB 4 Type C to host device, HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4, 1Gb ethernet port, two USB A 3.2 Gen 1 (5Gb/s), one USB A 2.0 (480 Mb/s) and finally a dedicated USB port for 2.4 GHz Dongles (480 Mb/s). And there's more: It supports a 4K 120Hz output and includes a 180W power adapter that can provide 100W of laptop charging while powering the other connected devices! It's also compatible with PCS, Macs, iPads, and Chromebooks, making it incredibly versatile. Razer USB 4 Dock - £229.99 Moza Racing R3 Racin If your dad is the type who watches F1 and thinks he could match Max Verstappen, but hasn't tried sim racing yet, Moza's R3 bundle is the perfect gift to get him started on his sim racing journey. It's 3.9Nm direct drive servo motor gives enough feedback to provide an immersive driving experience, but not too much that it might be overwhelming for beginners, while the aviation-grade aluminium construction and durable ISF PU grips mean it'll last, at least until he wants to upgrade! You get a wheelbase, wheel and pedals in this bundle, which is compatible with PC and Xbox, which is a great starting point, and the price is very competitive too. Moza Racing R3 Racing Wheel and Pedals for Xbox and PC - £359.00 SanDisk microSD Express Memory Card (256 GB) With the Nintendo Switch 2 now out in the wild and in the hands of gamers, my first impressions of the console are very positive, and it seems to be better than the original in pretty much every conceivable way. But, with the games looking better than ever, and in a higher resolution than ever, that comes at the cost of bigger game sizes, so this 256 microSD Express Memory Card is looking pretty essential for those with a big game library! The Switch 2 only supports games launching from a microSD Express card, not a standard microSD, so this is a great option! SanDisk microSD Express Memory Card - £49.00 (Currys) Steam Deck And last but not least, for those gamer dads out there who haven't experienced the joy of handheld gaming yet, the Steam Deck is a superb device that allows you to play your beloved Steam games on the go. Whether he plays Elden Ring, Baldur's Gate 3, Balatro, Red Dead Redemption 2 or Cyberpunk 2077, Valve's handheld can handle them all in 1280 x 800 resolution on its 7-inch display, which is surprisingly sharp given the lower than 1080p resolution. And, best of all, with the Steam Deck OLED also out now, the original Steam Deck is only £359 right now, making it cheaper than a Nintendo Switch 2! Steam Deck (256GB) - £359.00 And that's it. Hopefully, some of these ideas work out great, but if not, at least they might spark a present idea ahead of the big day.
