DP World's Einride electric freight fleet now running ‘around the clock'
Global ports operator DP World says a much-anticipated project to electrify its Jebel Ali Port is now 'running around the clock', with an electric fleet set to move more than 204,000 shipping containers annually. The endeavour, first announced last year as a partnership with electric freight mobility company Einride, is part of an attempt to decarbonise terminal operations. According to Dubai-based DP world, the electrification of the port will reduce 14,600 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) annually compared to diesel operations. Abdulla bin Damithan, chief executive and managing director of DP World, said decarbonisation is a major priority for the company, which operates the world's 10th busiest port. 'We are actively electrifying our operations, integrating AI-powered solutions and working closely with our partners like Einride to support our net-zero goals,' Mr bin Damithan said. 'Jebel Ali is setting the benchmark for the electrification of transport in high-volume trade hubs.' Robert Falck, chief executive of Einride, said the Sweden-based freight mobility company is particularly enthusiastic to be working with the UAE on this project, among others. 'This marks the first of many milestones as we set out to have the largest deployment of electric, autonomous freight mobility in the Middle East,' he said. 'The UAE is uniquely positioned to lead this sustainable transition given its forward-thinking approach to innovation and we are proud to drive this in partnership with DP World.' Founded in 2016, Einride makes driverless electric freight lorries, charging ports and sustainable freight technology. One of its most touted products is the Autonomous Gen 2, a self-driving electric freight vehicle without a cab. According to the company, the decarbonisation programme at DP World will be scaled up to support 1,600 container movements daily, made possible through a fleet of 100 connected electric lorries. Einride Saga, the company's 'intelligent freight operating system', which uses data and artificial intelligence to enhance electric and driverless road freight operations, will also be used to help monitor the fleet of heavy-duty electric vehicles and charging infrastructure. In 2023, Einride signed a preliminary agreement with the UAE's Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure to establish a 550km freight 'Falcon Rise' mobility grid, with the eventual aim of enabling the use of electric and autonomous vehicles. The Falcon Rise grid will implement Einride's 'full freight mobility offering' across Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah, covering 2,000 electric lorries, 200 autonomous lorries and eight charging stations with more than 500 charging points, the company said last year. The value of the global autonomous vehicle market is forecast to reach about $2.3 trillion by 2032, from about $121.78 billion in 2022, according to data from Precedence Research.

Dubai's RTA begins major roadworks project to run through the summer
The transport authority in Dubai has begun work to improve traffic in the emirate at 40 locations over the summer period. The first phase of the work will cover 22 major streets, nine school zones, more than five development areas, and several internal roads in the Tolerance District, Al Khawaneej 2 and Nad Al Sheba, stated the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). The roadworks will be carried out to 'minimise disruption to daily traffic flow', the RTA said in a statement released on Sunday. The next phase will include traffic enhancements at locations such as Jumeirah Village Circle towards Hessa Street, Ras Al Khor Road, Al Thanya Street, and King Salmanbin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street. Additional improvements are to be made to Al Meydan Street, Al Sa'ada Street, Al Asayel Street, and the junction of Al Wasl Street with Al Manara Street. The RTA is also undertaking roadworks at nine school zone locations including upgrades at the Al Warqa 1 school complex, the construction of an additional bus entrance at Gems Education in Al Warqa 3, the widening of access and exit points around The English College in Al Safa 1 on Sheikh Zayed Road, and the installation of a signal-controlled pedestrian crossing on Al Seedaf Street in Al Barsha 1. Work is also being carried at 'five major development zones' as a result of the emirate's population growth and booming economy, the RTA said. This includes the construction of a direct access route to Al Muhaisnah labour camps from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, upgrades to Al Mustaqbal Street (Brookfield) for improved access to newly developed residential communities, better connectivity between Al Khail Road and Al Asayel Street via Al Marabea Street, and enhancements at Nad Al Hamar junction near Lootah Mosque. Additionally, new parking facilities will be developed to serve the Zayed Educational Complex in Oud Al Muteena 1. Internal roadworks will also be carried out in areas including Tolerance District, Al Khawaneej 2, Jebel Ali Industrial 1, Nad Al Sheba, and Al Warqa. Pedestrian walkways will also be constructed in Al Quoz Creative Zone to 'improve pedestrian safety'.

Hundreds look for jobs at career fair in Dubai
More than 400 candidates wishing to seek new jobs or exploring better employment opportunities participated in the first phase of the career fair organised by the Pakistan Consulate in Dubai. The first phase of the 2-day Career Fair 2025 was organised in collaboration with Transguard Group. The officials conducted the initial interviews of job seekers who visited the consulate from across the UAE. More than 20 job categories were offered by Transguard Group, providing an opportunity for employment in diverse sectors. About 400 candidates participated in the initial phase of the recruitment drive. The final selection of candidates will be announced upon the completion of assessment and verification processes in accordance with the specific requirements of each role. Hussain Muhammad, Consul General of Pakistan in Dubai, visited the venue and observed the recruitment process. He emphasised the importance of such initiatives in employment opportunities for Pakistanis residing in the UAE. He lauded the collaboration as an important step towards generating job opportunities for the Pakistani community. MoE and Dubai Police sign MoU to enhance cooperation in developing compliance mechanisms for AML/CFT requirements
Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Economy signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dubai Police General Command to strengthen cooperation and coordination in developing compliance mechanisms for anti-money laundering (AML) and combatting the financing of terrorism (CFT) requirements. The agreement facilitates the exchange and integration of information between the two entities, thus enhancing supervisory roles within the national legislative framework. The MoU was signed on the sidelines of the fourth edition of the World Police Summit, held at the Dubai World Trade Centre under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The agreement was signed by H.E. Safia Hashim Al Safi, Assistant Undersecretary for Commercial Control and Governance at the Ministry of Economy, and H.E. Major General Expert Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansoori, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs at Dubai Police. H.E. Safia Al Safi emphasised that the UAE has made significant strides in developing advanced strategies, policies, and legislation to combat money laundering and terrorism financing in line with the highest international standards. This will be realised through the exchange of data on suspicious transactions and activities and the activation of secure and effective institutional communication channels to ensure the swift exchange of confidential data in line with the approved legal and regulatory frameworks. These efforts support their awareness endeavours to prevent and deter violators, in line with the applicable legislations and regulations in the UAE. The MoU also outlines the implementation of joint training programs and specialised workshops aimed at enhancing the professional competencies of both parties' staff and the development of periodic analytical reports to support decision-making, ensuring the comprehensive application of administrative and regulatory procedures.
