The CM was addressing an event to mark International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at the State Convention Centre here on Thursday.
Specialised units like the anti-narcotics task force are being further strengthened, and new tools such as drug scanners and trained canine squads are being introduced, he said, urging all citizens to come together in this fight. The event brought together leaders, frontline workers and communities under the theme 'Breaking the Chains: Prevention, Treatment and Recovery for All'.
The CM emphasised that the govt is committed not only to law enforcement but also to holistic recovery, involving health systems, education, youth engagement and strong community partnerships. "We cannot look at this as just a law enforcement issue. It is a public health, social and developmental issue. DREAM is our mission to fight this together — as a state, as a people," he said and also led the gathering in a solemn pledge as part of the National Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
The flagship programme — Drug Reduction, Elimination and Action Mission (DREAM) — is a comprehensive, multi-sectoral initiative that addresses both the supply and demand side of substance abuse. Under the initiative, the govt has committed Rs 50 crore over five years to support rehabilitation centres, especially those run by faith-based and community-led organisations. As part of DREAM's community-based strategy, the govt also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses, a national organisation.
The partnership aims to create customised toolkits and training modules for schools, teachers, local communities and NGOs to build an informed, drug-resilient society.

Mumbai EOW books Atom Capital, Supremus Angel for Rs 26.5 crore NSE shares fraud

MUMBAI: The Economic Offences Wing of Mumbai police has booked Atom Capital and Supremus Angel broking firm and its six directors for allegedly cheating investors of Rs 26.50 crores under the pretext of buying 1.68 lakh unlisted shares of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and failing to deliver the shares. The FIR was registered based on a complaint filed by Vinay Tiwari, a resident of Malad East. Police said an FIR was registered at the Worli police station and the case has been transferred to EOW. Tiwari, in his complaint, accused eight individuals and entities of criminal conspiracy, cheating, and misappropriation. The accused include Nisha Kumari R., Satish Kumar (Director, Atom Capital Pvt Ltd), Krish Vora and Manish Soni (Partners, Supremus Angel), Sanjay Damani, and Neeraj Nisar (Directors, Optimus Financial Solutions Pvt Ltd). The complaint alleges that in late 2024, Nisha Kumari approached Mehta Financial Services with an offer to sell 1,68,000 unlisted NSE shares at ₹1,500 per share, claiming they were held by Atom Capital Pvt Ltd. Soon after, another client—Prakash Dhariwal and his family—expressed interest and paid additional crores for 58,000 shares via Supremus Angel, coordinated through the same network. Despite providing all required KYC documents, no NSE shares were transferred. When pressed, Nisha and Satish allegedly revealed that Atom Capital had no direct access to NSE shares and had instead routed the money to Supremus Angel, which then diverted funds to Optimus Financial Solutions. Despite accepting the funds, the unlisted shares were never delivered. It is further alleged that the accused, in collusion with Sanjay Damani and Neeraj Nisar, diverted the funds for personal gain, amounting to criminal breach of trust and cheating. Damani and Nisar, both directors of Optimus, are accused of masterminding this switch for personal financial gain. 'From the beginning, these individuals falsely claimed they owned NSE shares, entering into a share purchase agreement in bad faith and conspiring to defraud our company and our clients,' Tiwari wrote in the FIR. He emphasised that the trust built through fake documentation and manipulated financial trails led to massive losses for the company and the Dhariwal family.

Computer equipment stolen from Annamalai University recovered after a month

CUDDALORE: Computer equipment stolen from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at Annamalai University has been recovered by Annamalai Nagar police, a month after a complaint was lodged by university authorities. The equipment, procured under the Tamil Nadu government's 'Naan Mudhalvan' scheme, had been stored in the Information Technology department's computer laboratory when it went missing. K Selvakumar, Head of the Department of Information Technology and the scheme's coordinator at the university, filed a formal complaint at the Annamalai Nagar police station following the incident. Acting on the complaint, Inspector K Ambedkar registered a case and initiated an investigation under the supervision of Cuddalore District Superintendent of Police S Jeyakumar and Chidambaram Sub-Division Deputy Superintendent of Police T Augustin Joshua Lamech. During the course of the probe, police arrested J Livin Ajay (18), a first-year student of the Diploma in Mining programme at the same faculty. He hails from Arasakuzhi near Virudhachalam. According to police, computer parts valued at Rs 5 lakh — including 15 CPUs and nine monitors — were recovered from the accused. Investigations revealed that Ajay had made failed attempts to sell the stolen items on OLX and to private individuals. Eventually, he concealed the equipment in bushes behind the university premises. Based on his confession, police traced and retrieved the items. The accused was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody on Wednesday evening.

40 accounts, 60 booze bottles seized from Himachal Pradesh drug controller

NEW DELHI: ED Thursday said it had seized 60 liquor bottles, cars and details of at least 40 bank accounts operated by additional drug controller of Dharamshala, Nishant Sareen, and his associates during searches on his premises on June 22-23 in a money laundering case. ED has accused the officer of taking bribes from pharmaceutical companies by threatening them with actions. Sareen was arrested earlier for corruption when he was additional drug controller of Baddi in Himachal Pradesh but reinstated by the Congress govt last year as drug controller of Dharamshala after his release on bail. ED is probing complaints of extortion by Sareen in his present role as ADC, Dharamshala and interconnected financial transactions between his family members and pharmaceutical companies. ED said it seized documents of drug licences, show cause notices, clearances issued to pharma firms, property-related papers and digital devices. "Two vehicles worth Rs 32 lakh, more than 40 bank accounts/FDRs and threelockers belonging to Sareen and his family and 60 unaccounted liquor bottles werealso seized," ED said. tnn
