40 accounts, 60 booze bottles seized from Himachal Pradesh drug controller
NEW DELHI: ED Thursday said it had seized 60 liquor bottles, cars and details of at least 40 bank accounts operated by additional drug controller of Dharamshala, Nishant Sareen, and his associates during searches on his premises on June 22-23 in a money laundering case.
ED has accused the officer of taking bribes from pharmaceutical companies by threatening them with actions. Sareen was arrested earlier for corruption when he was additional drug controller of Baddi in Himachal Pradesh but reinstated by the Congress govt last year as drug controller of Dharamshala after his release on bail.
ED is probing complaints of extortion by Sareen in his present role as ADC, Dharamshala and interconnected financial transactions between his family members and pharmaceutical companies.
ED said it seized documents of drug licences, show cause notices, clearances issued to pharma firms, property-related papers and digital devices. "Two vehicles worth Rs 32 lakh, more than 40 bank accounts/FDRs and threelockers belonging to Sareen and his family and 60 unaccounted liquor bottles werealso seized," ED said. tnn

In an unverified social media post shortly after the attack, a user identifying himself as Dony Bal Manga claimed responsibility, saying he along with Prabh Dasuwal and Kaushal Chaudhary (both from Haryana) had avenged the killing of a member of their gang, Gora Bariar. The post alleged that Harjit Kaur and Karanvir had been managing the criminal operations of Bhagwanpuria. Batala deputy superintendent of police Paramveer Singh said both the victims sustained bullet injuries on the face, chest, and stomach. Harjit Kaur was rushed to the local civil hospital from where she was referred to a hospital in Amritsar, but succumbed to the bullet injuries. Karanvir, who is the son of a Punjab Police assistant sub inspector, was declared dead at the Batala civil hospital. The DSP said a case has been registered and teams have been formed to arrest the killers. 'We are investigating the motive behind the incident,' he said. Harjit Kaur, who belongs to Bhagwanpur village, was elected as the sarpanch during the previous Congress regime. She was active in the Congress but before the Dera Baba Nanak assembly byelections last year, she joined the Aam Aadmi Party. In March, gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria was detained under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT-NDPS) and shifted from Bathinda central jail to Assam's Silchar jail on the recommendation of the Narcotics Control Bureau. Bhagwanpuria was in Punjab Police custody for singer Sidhu Moosewala's murder in Mansa on May 29, 2022. Moosewala was murdered by the Goldy Brar-Lawrence Bishnoi-Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang to avenge the killing of Youth Akali Dal leader Vikramjit Singh, alias Vicky Middukhera, by the Bambiha gang in Mohali on August 7, 2021. Bhagwanpuria faces 128 criminal cases, including high-profile murders and extortion, besides the Arms Act and 13 under the NDPS Act, since 2012.

‘Manjummel Boys' fraud case: Soubin Shahir and co-producers granted anticipatory bail by Kerala High Court
(Picture Courtesy: Facebook) The Kerala High Court on Thursday (June 26) granted actor-director Soubin Shahir , his father Babu Shahir, and co-producer Shaun Antony, anticipatory bail in the financial fraud case related to the hit Malayalam film 'Manjummel Boys'. According to the Bar Bench website, the court ruled that custodial interrogation was not necessary at this stage and directed the accused to appear before the investigation team on July 7. Reportedly, the court also instructed that if any of the accused are taken into custody, they should be immediately released on bail. The decision comes after an earlier plea by the trio to quash the case was rejected by the court, prompting them to file for anticipatory bail. However, he claimed that despite receiving the money, the producers failed to deliver on the agreement. This led to what he described as a breach of trust and financial cheating. Following the complaint, the Maradu Police began an investigation as per the High Court's directive and submitted a report stating that the accused had conspired to defraud the complainant. According to police, while a sum of Rs 5.99 crore was later returned to the complainant, they still found sufficient grounds to register a case. Should not be treated like a standard criminal case Reportedly, the High Court, while granting bail, noted that the dispute appeared to be of a civil and commercial nature, and should not be treated like a standard criminal case. It also acknowledged that the accused had already responded to earlier summons and extended them protection from arrest until June 27.

They claimed he struck her with a club and concealed both the body and weapon in bushes. The investigation began after Suresh reported his wife missing, coinciding with the discovery of an unidentified body. During the trial, Suresh's defence revealed his wife was alive. She appeared in court and was identified by family members. The judge found the police investigation suspicious, noting no prima facie evidence against Suresh. The court determined the investigation was deliberately fabricated rather than merely faulty, stating the evidence and documentation were intentionally manufactured. Recognising the misuse of justice, the Sessions court ordered the Mysuru Superintendent of Police to investigate the unknown body's case. In addition ,the Inspector General of Police (Mysuru Division) was directed to conduct departmental inquiry against Prakash and three colleagues from Bettadapura Police Station: Jitendra Kumar, Prakash M Yattinamani, and Mahesh BK.
