Mother in custody after son found dead in Holland
Around 4:15 a.m., crews with the Holland Department of Public Safety were sent to an apartment in the Bay Pointe Apartment Complex at 791 E 16th St for a domestic incident.
Responding officers found a 39-year-old woman holding a knife. HDPS said officers gave her multiple commands before using a Tazer. She was then taken into custody. Her name has not been released.
While in the apartment, officers found the body of a 17-year-old boy, the woman's son, HDPS said.
Multiple detectives were called to the scene due to the suspicious nature of the death. An autopsy is pending.

Woman steals Pride flag from Michigan church. Now it's returned, with an apology
A Pride flag stolen from a church and ultimately returned sparked waves of support from a Michigan community. Footage shared on Facebook from St. John's Episcopal Church in Grand Haven shows a woman remove the flag from outside the church around 1 a.m. Aug. 9. She was joined by another woman, who appeared to record the incident on a phone. As the church attempted to identity the women, many people in the Grand Haven community offered to replace the stolen flag. They didn't have to. In an Aug. 12 video, Rev. Jared Cramer said the flag was returned by the father of the woman who took it. With it, there was a note with an apology and a 'generation' donation to the church. The woman's boyfriend had called Cramer and said she was drunk when she took the flag after leaving a bar, according to WZZM. 'Even if this was a prank or joke, stuff like that contributes to a culture where LGBTQ people aren't safe,' Cramer told WOOD. 'Where that's why they need the flag to know whether or not this is a safe place for them, because there are so many places particularly here in West Michigan that are unsafe for queer people.' Cramer is offering forgiveness to the woman, he said in his video, and will not be filing charges. He called upon people offering to replace the flag to support their local LGBTQIA+ group. 'I would encourage all of us, as best as we can, to try and be curious about those who with we disagree, to find ways to build relationships because no one is probably the villain we make them out to be,' the pastor said. Grand Haven is about a 35-mile drive northwest from Grand Rapids.

Scores of bikes and weapons seized in 'all out' West Midlands neighbourhood blitz
Dozens of bikes, scooters and stolen cars were seized in an "all out" blitz in West Midlands neighbourhoods. Residents in Solihull had reported numerous incidents of gangs using violence or threat of violence to steal bikes in the area this year. Over the course of three days from August 8, teams from West Midlands Police were assisted by neighbouring forces in seizing a whopping 27 vehicles and arresting nine people in Chelmsley Wood and Birmingham. Police pictures of the seized haul showed e-bikes, off-road bikes and stolen cars and vans piled up to be taken in by the force. A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We arrested nine people and recovered 27 vehicles as we continue our investigation into robberies across Solihull. "Our Solihull Neighbourhood Team recently launched Operation Luxray, which is targeting the increase in motorcycle and pedal cycle robberies across the borough. "Starting on Friday, with warrants across Chelmsley Wood and Birmingham, the team carried out intensive action through until Sunday. "Our officers were supported with resources from across the force, including Guardian Taskforce, our traffic officers, and National Police Air Service (NPAS). "Across the three days, we made nine arrests for multiple offences including possession of drugs with intent to supply, dangerous driving, armed robbery, and possession of an offensive weapon. "We also seized 27 vehicles across the three days which included three high-powered e-bikes, off-road bikes, quad bikes, stolen cars and vans, along with multiple mopeds. "Our officers were patrolling across the Solihull borough, and were supported by colleagues from neighbouring forces Warwickshire Police and Staffordshire Police. "Multiple weapons including knives, machetes, and screwdrivers were seized, along with cash and mobile phones believed to be used in crime. "The enforcement is all part of our action to tackle the intrusive and distressing crime, and emphasises our stance that it will not be accepted." Inspector Andy Bridgewater, from Solihull Police, said: 'The warrants and all-out action over the weekend show that we will not accept this offence taking place, and will work to bring those responsible before the courts.'

Man gets prison in deadly Ottawa County road rage case
GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WOOD) — A man is heading to prison for a minimum of about eight years for his role in a road rage incident last year near Allendale that killed an uninvolved party. Ethan Luke Oosterhouse, 24, earlier to involuntary manslaughter stemming from the August 2024 crash on Lake Michigan Drive. An Ottawa County judge on Monday sentenced Oosterhouse to between 100 months and 15 years in prison. His driver's license was also forfeited. Court docs: Men admit to 'road rage' in deadly crash The case against his co-defendant, , 43, is pending, with a court appearance scheduled in two weeks. The pair were charged last August with second-degree murder, manslaughter and reckless driving causing death. According to court documents, on June 25, 2024, a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Oosterhouse and a Dodge Charger driven by Perez were engaged in aggressive 'road rage style driving' while traveling eastbound on Lake Michigan Drive. A eventually occurred between Perez and Oosterhouse, who are accused of driving well over the posted speed limit. That collision caused Perez's vehicle to hit a car in the westbound lanes near Trillium Drive. The head-on crash killed 27-year-old Sha-Tera Coleman of Grand Rapids. Members of the victim's family addressed the court Monday prior to sentencing. During an earlier hearing, an Ottawa County deputy said both men to engaging in a road rage incident for several miles.
