Post-Pahalgam, call for Muslims to ‘leave' Rohtak village
At a time when the people of Jammu and Kashmir are standing in solidarity with the victims of horrors in Pahalgam, and the Valley had shut down to disown the perpetrators of what many termed "murder of Kashmiriyat", a contrasting narrative is playing out in a village in Haryana's Rohtak, nearly 750 km away.
Some of the villagers of Kharawar – one of the biggest villages of Rohtak-- including the de facto sarpanch of the village (the son of the woman sarpanch), reportedly issued a diktat on Thursday evening ordering Muslim residents to vacate the village by May 2. As many as 12 members of the Muslim community were told to give an undertaking that they would leave the village within the stipulated time.
As per information accessed by TOI, an announcement was made on Thursday in the village WhatsApp group, having 900 members, that it was time to remove the minority community members from the village.
The voice note in the village WhatsApp group referred to the "Pahalgam mein jo kaand hua hai (What has happened in Pahalgam)...", leading several villagers to support the eviction call allegedly made by Deepak Malik. TOI is in possession of all audios, chats as well as undertakings by Muslim families regarding leaving the village by May 2.

As many as 15 Muslim families have been living in the village for around 10-12 years, most of them working as mechanics, labourers in nearby factories or as small-time junk dealers. Taniya, who is a junk dealer in village, said that around 15 people led by Deepak Malik visited her place and asked them to leave by May 2-3. "I said that we have been living here for past 10-15 years. Those who have committed the crime should be punished, why are we being harassed? But they said we don't want any Muslim here. They said if something happens, don't blame us," she added.
Talking to TOI, she claimed that they had not informed the police, fearing the clout of other party as well as the tense atmosphere, but apprised Dheeraj Malik, a Zila Parishad councillor, of their plight.
Dheeraj Malik told TOI that he had assured the Muslims not to worry and told them they could stay at his place in case somebody troubled them. Malik added that some people in the village have been vitiating the peaceful atmosphere to stay in the limelight, but they are making efforts to ensure that this does not happen.
Deepak Malik did not respond to the calls and message sent on his WhatsApp.

Representative image (ANI) AYODHYA : Local authorities in Ayodhya and Barabanki of BJP-governed UP have refused to allow two annual Urs ceremonies, citing concerns over potential breach of peace and law-and-order problems. The Ayodhya gathering has been organised at the shrine of Dada Miya in Khanpur Masodha area. Salar Masood is believed to be the nephew of Mahmud of Ghazni and served as his military commander. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath recently declared that no event celebrating foreign aggressors should be allowed in the state. The permission granted under the name of "Urs Dada Miya" has been revoked as it was found that it was being organised under the name of Ghazi Baba, said Ayodhya circle officer Ashutosh Tiwari. Engineer loses 1.8Cr in online share trade fraud
Pune: A 64-year-old engineer from Sahakarnagar lost Rs1.78 crore in an online share trading fraud recently. Between February and May this year, the victim transferred the amounts to different bank accounts provided to him and lost it to the crooks. An officer from the Pune Cyber police told TOI that, according to the complainant, in February this year, he was added to a group of investors on a mobile messaging app by an unknown person. One person was providing training on investments in the share market in that group. "The complainant told us that in April this year, the trainer messaged him and informed him that he could earn a good amount of money if he invested in shares through their trading app. The message also stated that the victim could get IPOs easily if he purchased through their app," the officer said. He said that on April 23, the complainant withdrew Rs 1 lakh, which was also credited to his bank account. When he tried to withdraw Rs 65 lakh more, he was not allowed. He was told to pay Rs 15.58 lakh for the tax. After that, he was asked to pay Rs 17 lakh under the pretext of profit-sharing fees. After the payment, the crooks told him to pay the same amount again as the complainant transferred it to his trading app by mistake. Following this, the complainant transferred the same amount. They took Rs 9 lakh more from him under the pretext of profit-sharing fees again. "After that, the complainant was told to withdraw his money. When he tried to withdraw Rs 90 lakh on May 16, the crooks closed his trading app and stopped responding to his calls. He realised that he was duped and approached us," the officer said.

Woman falls into uncovered stormwater channel near Pune's Navale Bridge, found dead in nullah close to Warje
1 2 3 Pune: A 64-year-old woman from Phursungi was swept away by water in an overflowing nullah near Navale Bridge in the Narhe area during the heavy rain on Thursday night. Police on Friday said the woman fell into the overflowing stormwater channel while crossing the road around 11.30pm and was carried away by the strong water current into the nullah, located a few metres away. A fire brigade team found the body of the woman, identified as Shobha Mahimane, after searching the area for over 15 hours. Police said the stormwater channel, located between the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass and the service road, was overflowing because of heavy rainfall. The woman failed to spot the channel while crossing the road and fell into it. Three people present nearby tried to rescue her. After failing in their effort, one of them alerted the police control room about the accident. Pradip Khedekar, an official of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC)'s fire brigade involved in the search, told TOI: "Her body was found near the Warje crematorium, where the nullah merges with the river, almost 4-5km from the accident spot. Earlier in the day, we had found her footwear and clothes." Rahul Khilare, inspector (Crime) at the Bharti Vidyapeeth police station, told TOI that the woman had arrived from Kolhapur with some relatives in a car after attending a wedding. She was dropped by the relatives at Narhe. They had told her to stay overnight in another relative's house in Katraj, instead of travelling all the way to Phursungi because of heavy rain. He said, "She was trying to cross the highway and reach the service road to find an autorickshaw when the accident occurred. " Khilare said the police found her cellphone found near the stormwater channel. "We got her daughter's number from the phone. We called her daughter, informed her about the incident and ascertained the identity of the deceased." The fire brigade department received over 20 emergency calls related to tree collapses during Thursday's rain and strong winds.
