The Blues visit looking for their first league win and Mick Kennedy expects a real test
Mick Kennedy reckons Saturday's League Two clash against Stranraer will be a massive one – as they meet for the first time since the 2023/24 pyramid play-off final, and with connections between the clubs.

The Blues' management team are former Kilby duo Chris and Stevie Aitken, with a third ex-boss, Martin Fellowes, part of their backroom team.

EK had a painful play-off defeat to the Blues in 2023/24, but made up for it by winning promotion and joining Stranraer in League Two this term.

Kilby boss Kennedy said: 'It's probably two very different squads now! We've rebuilt, and I think Stranraer have had a bit of change-over as well.
'No disrespect to Stranraer in those two games, but I don't know how we didn't win those games and get promoted that year.
'But there's no pressure this time round, the dynamics are totally changed.
'Stranraer have a new manager as well, they had a really good League Cup campaign, though their first couple of league results haven't been great, but I'm sure they'll come to K-Park fully motivated and we'll be trying to get three points.
'Martin Fellowes is in there as well, so their management team have a real affiliation and connection with East Kilbride as well, so we are looking forward to it.'

Derek McInnes admits he ‘got the game the wrong way round' as Hearts exit cup

The Jambos had won each of their six outings this season but their momentum was halted – and their long wait for a first League Cup triumph since 1962 extended – as the Buddies prevailed in the shootout following a 1-1 draw in which Oisin McEntee's 78th-minute equaliser cancelled out Alex Gogic's first-half opener for the hosts. Hearts substitute Claudio Braga was the only one of the 10 penalty takers who failed to score after his kick was saved by Shamal George. McInnes was heartened by the way his side rallied to get back in the game but admitted their lacklustre start was partly down to the fact he pitched in too many new players, with Tomas Bent Magnusson and Pierre Landry Kabore handed their first starts and Alexandros Kyziridis given his second start. All three summer signings were substituted for the start of the second half. 'I'm disappointed to exit the cup, congratulations to St Mirren, they've won a tight tie on penalties,' said manager McInnes. 'I think the type of game it was in extra time, I'd love to have been bringing Kyziridis and Kabore on. Maybe we got the game the wrong way round a wee bit, and that's on me. 'Maybe we had just one too many of the new lads starting the game. That was a typical cup tie, away from home against a St Mirren team who were top six last season. 'Sometimes you've got to give players a run, but maybe we just fell short on that side and that's probably on me. 'But that's not the reason we lost the tie because we got ourselves in a good position. I just wanted us to hammer home that authority (after equalising) and a Hearts team should be able to do that going forward.' St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson was delighted with the fight his team showed to reach the last eight. 'In the first half we were outstanding,' he said. 'We played some fantastic football, we pressed the life out of them. And then second half, we didn't do the simple things well enough and Hearts dominated the ball. 'And the subs that Hearts are bringing on, with a lot of money invested in the squad, you're obviously going to have to defend and we've done that with some super performances. 'Penalties becomes a little bit of a lottery but we've got an excellent goalkeeper so we had real faith that he would save at least one.'

Chelsea transfer news: Xavi Simons understood to prefer Stamford Bridge move

Talks have been ongoing with RB Leipzig all summer over a move for the Netherlands international as the Blues look to wrap up what would be a ninth first-team signing. Whilst an agreement is yet to be reached between the clubs, PA understands that the 22-year-old, who has won 28 international caps and scored in his country's Euro 2024 semi-final defeat to England, is not moved by interest from the Bundesliga champions and has his heart set on a move to west London. Leipzig had been keen on bringing back Christopher Nkunku after a disappointing two years at Chelsea that have been badly hampered by injury, but it is understood the France international does not want to return to his former club, quashing any chance he could be used as a makeweight in a deal for Simons. Simons can play either as an attacking midfielder or on the wing and is a potentially more flexible attacking option than Nkunku, as Enzo Maresca seeks to complete the revamp of his forward line following the acquisitions of Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund, Brazilian winger Estevao Willian and strikers Liam Delap and Joao Pedro. Joao Felix and Noni Madueke have already been moved on this summer, with Nkunku set to follow them after Maresca decided there was no place for the 27-year-old in his plans for the new season. Chelsea kick off their Premier League campaign at home to Crystal Palace on Sunday looking to build on a fourth-place finish last season.

Noel Hunt urges Reading to be more ‘ruthless' in opposing penalty areas

Goals from Matty Stevens and Marcus Browne gave Wimbledon a deserved 2-0 lead and although Reading replied with a late long-distance thunderbolt from Lewis Wing, they slipped to their third-successive league defeat this season. 'I thought that we did enough to get something out of the game,' Hunt said. 'I thought that we played the majority of the football in their half. 'And then we get punished with two shots on target and two goals. 'We can look at it again and re-analyse it from our point of view, but some of the decisions that we made should be easy to fix and will stop these things happening. 'It's about both boxes, that's where games are won and lost. We've got to make sure that we tidy up in our box and be ruthless in the opposition box. 'The link-up play is coming along but it's still all about putting the ball in the back of the net. 'We just have to be more ruthless in front of goal and show more belief. When the opportunity arises, we've got to be willing to take a shot.' Wimbledon, promoted as League Two play-off winners last season, have won two of their opening three games this campaign. Dons manager Johnnie Jackson said: 'I said to the lads that we've gone up a level and to win a game of football now takes even more. 'It was a game today that we were so comfy in – after we got a second goal and then looking like we'd get a third. 'And then Wing goes and does that, which he can do and it completely changes the complexion of the game. 'You then have to dig in but Reading had their moments when they'll be thinking that they could have got something out of the game. 'You remember the last bit (closing stages) I suppose, but if you rewind the other 80 minutes, we were comfy and we're worthy winners. 'In the end, though, we really had to work hard for it. That can happen in a game of football. Can you really legislate for somebody sticking it in the top corner from 30 yards? 'I suppose we can look at it and say that we should have got up to the ball, stuff like that. 'Those moments change the game and, on another day, they might score (again). 'But today, we were resolute. We know that we are a good defensive side and we know that we can see leads through.'
